Laura Match-Ups Thread: Quench your thirst here

OK guys, since people are having trouble with what Laura can do on knockdown besides meaty here are some tips…

After MP bolt charge or forward throw you are at even frames if you dash in afterwards so you can press a stand jab if you like, if your opponent is slow to react you can get a counter hit combo into CR.MP x bolt charge.

After any sunset wheel you cannot dash in, you’re at -4 so you can meaty St HK or LP bolt charge. If they’re sleeping you can catch them with a meaty ex ssw if they quick rise. HP bolt charge has the same options.

Back throw is where she shines, you’re +2 after a dash in so you get a meaty button or SSW which will beat 4 frame jabs because of priority.

Hope this helps guys.

No probs; I’ve had some horrible sync problems as of late and many people outside Scandinavia are warping all over the place. It might also be GFX card related as the poor thing seems to be dying but most likely Capcom servers being what they are.

I played few games against Phenom and some other good Bison, lost 1-3 and 2-5, 2-5. I just don’t know what to do against these characters (Necalli and Bison). I’m probably playing too passive, trying to score hits with buffered st.lk, wiff punishing with cr.hp/cr.mk and just dancing back and forth with the vskill. Maybe I’ll just have to YOLO it and use more command throws come hell or high water. And I’m not going to take it too seriously anyway, Laura is fun to use regardless of the result.

Is it me or Mikas like to neutral jump a lot after an LP elbow? Not like they don’t learn very quickly it’s a bad idea lol.
BTW, any specific advice on this MU aside from spamming fbs?

I have a very tough time against Mika too. These are some of my experiences.

  1. Air-to-Air game is definitely in Mika’s favor. So don’t jump around that much. Also because she is like Dhalsim, where she can slide around the floor making your positioning awkward on your landing.
  2. Don’t throw Thunder Claps from full screen cuz she can charge ass attack through it.
  3. If you see her do charge ass attack, react with a st.MK or stm. to beat her out of it.
  4. On wake-up, they either do A) cr. LP OR B) neutraljump OR that C) Ex Walk Across the screen punch. So do meaty attacks to prevent A) & B). For C)… it’s like a Shoryuken so … yeah
  5. Most of the Mika’s JUMP so MUCH!, prepare to Anti-Air, or Avante out of a cross up.
  6. Since they neutral jump so much, I think you must practice the HP Bolt Charge on reaction
  7. Always stay in her face with frame traps. I feel like in one knock down, it’s pretty much game over for Laura cuz she doesn’t have a DP.

Don’t have much offensive strategy. Just poke her out.

tnx for the answer.

This applies to Karin too btw (because Ressenha). Learned the hard way.

[edit] also never fb a Chun with full EX meter. Ouch.

The Zangief matchup is horrible… :expressionless:

God his SPD can reach Laura and grab her out of her cr.mk…that makes no sense. Shes just forced to run away but it makes it even worse because she just pushes herself into a corner.

This is why her fireball needs to stay on screen even after a hit, which is completely a stupid idea for whomever thought to do that. I’m tired of watching that thing come into contact with the opponent but doesnt register because because reasons.

One thing I’ve noticed in the Mika match is that frequently when they have v trigger they just start mashing on cr hp to get you to block so they can call Nadeshiko to try and mix you up so I start neutral jumping and let them roll underneath me and eat a jump in combo. If she starts catching on she can probably ex wap you but at this point in the meta they are so thirsty for the cr hp xx v trigger activation they will literally mash cr hp until they manage to tag you with it.

I don’t play against Mika that often but I kind of notice that as well. Reading your post made me look at some of my recent matches against her and I picked up that in all of the matches they went for it whether on block or on hit. Now I also saw I didn’t neutral jump it except one time and when I did I got good free damage. I should be doing this a lot more and like you said if they catch on they will try that ex move. So I will just have to adjust my game. I went to Next Level for the first time last week and there was a Mika player I played against who was relying on c.HP heavily to go into v trigger. Without v trigger I was just punishing it with s.LP xx Elbow. When he did cancel into v trigger I did nothing. Inexperience played a part but man something like this I should’ve picked up on.

Does anyone have tips on what to do in the Necalli match-up? You can’t use your fireball in neutral because of his v-skill and when you’re close to him all of his normals seem to beat out yours. I’m kinda lost on how to approach this match-up.

I quote ShinobiBrown who replied to the same issue:

Necallis will mostly use LK stomp because it can’t be interrupted, on block you can go into st. LK xx EX fb/LP elbow/V-backdash depending whether you wanna put or escape pressure (since Laura’s much better than him at mid-range). First two are also good to score CHs after LP elbow hit when they become jab-happy.

Does someone have any advice on the Birdie matchup using Laura. His buttons and range can be really oppressive. THX

And Ryu and Ken to the list of lop-sided matchups in (of course) the shotos favor.

Are V-Reversals invincible in the recovery animation?

I V-Reversal one of Necalli’s normals, and while I was recovering from the V-Reversal animation, he did a Critical Art and it just went right through me.

I agree about Ryu but Ken seems a lotta easier to me, mostly because Ken players tend to run at you and try to do stuff.

I think the Ryu matchup is fair but you don’t have a lot of room for mistakes. Passive Ryu players are the bane of my existence, because I just don’t have the patience lol.

The problem I tend to find in this game, generally speaking, is that the neutral can be somewhat random at times. People like to dash and do something (like a sweep) and it is hard to react - especially online. The lack of defensive options after a sudden moment like that can lead to lots of frustration depending on the matchup. But SFV is all about reading your opponent; knowing when to use buffered normals and so on.

I got rid of the name Ryu because passive players give me the toughest time. A passive Ryu, Necalli, or Nash can be so tough because they can turtle up and suddenly everything you do is risky.

Any advice on how to approach the Cammy matchup at the moment? It seems like she has a lot of ways to convert into big damage and can play a pretty defensive game as well.

No matter how hard I try telling myself I have the tools to fight Birdie, each new fight against him is an ordeal. Every wrong read you do he deals a bazillion points of damage in return. And good luck getting close to him with that jab and that anti-air…

I feel Laura vs Ryu is heavily in Ryu’s favour. I can’t even see arguments against it. Ryu dumps Laura.

6-4, 7-3? No idea.

I feel whoever has the life advantage is in a significant position in that matchup. A ryu that is forced to approach you leaves him open to allow you to sneak in that initial attack to get your offense started. I dont think it’s 7-3 but 6-4 is arguable.
