The sf4 judges worked 7 hour shifts. I personally ran my hdr pool and then the semi finals so that was like 8 hours straight of VOLUNTEER work.
All you guys complaining about the volunteer judges are the best. I have a great idea of how YOU can personally make evo better next year. You volunteer to be a judge. And Dayday, you can personally hand out shirts for 4 hours at 8am if you volunteer to be a judge. It seems like the simplest solution. You want a shirt? Dayday will have you covered.
I volunteer myself to establish a system for handing out t-shirts for next evo. I will need more volunteers and obviously the tournaments permission but with a few extra people dedicated to fixing this problem we can get it done. We will set up a list divide it up and manage it the best we can which will be much better than 2k9.
Sweet. Evo details are usually announced several months before the event. You should probably wait until two months or maybe one month before Evo2k10 then make a thread explaining your plan and asking for any extra help you might need. If you have any other ideas for improving Evo, you can include those too. Hopefully you’ll find other people willing to contribute effort to make Evo better for everyone.
Good luck sir.
Considering I ran Third Strike friday morning, then turned around and ran SFIV friday night, and helped re-arrange the room between SFIV semis and the regionals… fuck you for even hinting that the VOLUNTEER judges aren’t doing enough.
All of you shitting on EVO judges and volunteers **obviously **have no idea how hard they work. For 3 days, these people “volunteer” their time to a community because they *love *it. How ironic that a select few members of that community would totally spew out their suggestions with no real comprehension of all the factors involved. Yeah, everything is easier said than done.
If you really believe that your suggestion(s) fix the horrendous problem which aftermath affected you so deeply *AND *you really wanted to insure that no one experiences this next year, then why don’t *you *sacrifice *your *EVO trip to work and make sure your suggestion transcends into an action. Show of hands?
And please don’t shit on Maj. That man has done more for the SF community then you ever will.
EDIT: This isn’t directed at you Heyyy612. Your eagerness to get involved is dope.
Quoted for being the M-Fing Truth!
But I was actually thinking, along with Heyyy612’s passing the shirts out, perhaps the players could be told to go to their pools, and there will be judges there with wristbands that have been premarked or signed or something (like the kind that they gave out for the PREVO VIP and all those things, and the judges give it to the player when they check in. Then they could go to the table where shirts and badges are to get it, and when they arrive, the person at the table cuts the wristband off and gives the badge and the shirt. So basically, no wristband, no swag.
I sent an aplication to be a judge and I didnt get any responde back.
A couple of people in this thread do not know how to comprehend what they read.
Who is shitting on EVO judges?
I got a shirt, so I am not upset about not having one. To be an EVO judge they clearly stated you must have ran a tournament bracket before, so don’t say nobody volunteered. If you think the way they handled shirts and badges was the best way, then that is what you think. They might as well put them all in a pile in the corner and let people have a free for all.
I have gave reasonable suggestions on how to handle it next year and all I got back is that it is impossible to hand out EVO shirts and badges to people that payed for them.
Watson was busy all weekend as well as an organizer and tourney player, yet he made sure people who payed for YJDK shirts received them.
Didn’t he hand them almost all out on thursday during the VIP party? before Evo even started.
I don’t know if he handed them out on Thursday at the VIP party, I got in there the last 30 minutes and I didn’t see him while I was there. I got mine from him Friday morning after I got my EVO shirt, maybe 10am. He had a pile of boxes with the shirts packaged up, so I would say no he did not hand out most of them Thursday.
i got one if some one wants one 10 for the shirt and 5 for shiping
The man has spoken on this.
I got one, but it is not for sale.:arazz:
You’re comparing 100 shirts distributed over 4 days against the 1500 people who registered for Evo and needed to be directed to their brackets immediately? Sometimes it seems like you’re more concerned about winning an internet argument than contributing anything constructive. People can sense that and it causes drama.
I like slash5150’s idea as a starting point, but then the main concern becomes making sure that wristbands don’t get lost/jacked in all the hectic commotion. It’s gonna happen sooner or later, guaranteed. I don’t think any judge is going to make that a priority over running their bracket and finishing on time.
Another alternative is to get someone with a laptop and a full list of registrants handling it the entire weekend, because it’ll definitely take that long. So how do we make sure everyone is who they say they are? (Especially if brackets get posted online ahead of time.) Does Evo need to start checking government IDs?
If that is not the pot calling the kettle black.
I gave plenty of ideas you judges took offense like it was directed at you.
Watson is one person, who was very busy all weekend.
If people are paying for a shirt they should receive a shirt.
I can think of plenty of ways to handle it, each one is impossible to myopians.
I can’t help that.
I win!!
Yeah that’s it.
I was actually thinking about this more last night, and the other option is to put the players name on the band and they have to show id when they bring it to the table, therefore if the id doesn’t match the name, they take the bracelet and pa the person whos bracelet it is.
So the bracelets have to have the names printed on them beforehand? Cuz if they don’t then you still have the problem of stolen wristbands. That and shady people asking for a wristband more than once, which they might be able to get away with in all the confusion.
I guess my main concern is making sure the judges don’t have too much responsibility because they’ll be distracted running their bracket. But it’s probably not that big a deal. I’m betting most of the shirts were taken by people who never registered, not by people who got more than one.
We could also forgo the exclusive evo pre-party the day before (probably not a popular idea, lol) and use that time to pick-up t’s and badges so things aren’t so hectic on friday. I’m sure a couple hundred would show early to mingle and get their games in. Lol, we don’t even have to cancel the party, just make it open to the public.
I shat on one judge because he did not do jack shit. I’m sure there were other more experienced judges doing a fabulous job for the community. There seems to be a few haters lurking this thread shooting down every solution and misunderstanding what is really being said. Yes I am mad I did not get a shirt and yes I want to vent and see who else is disappointed. But all of its for the sake of fixing the problem for next year. So maybe Maj needs to cool his fuckin jets. Wish you were my judge because things would have gotten done smoothly.
Welp, i’ve had enough. If you PM me your address i’ll mail you my Evo2k9 shirt. It’s a medium.
Other than that i’m done here. Good luck!
