Korean arcade parts discussion

Yes. 17.5mm is pretty big actuator, it work best for less sensitive switch

But cones actuator shouldn’t have issue since the contat point is about 16.5mm

its the actuator I think, it works on the other shafts, and other actuators on these two shafts.

and these, these two dustwashers dont fit in any of the shafts, hole to small, not a big deal on this, just curious what happened lol

Got my Golden Fanta parts 2 days ago and got quite a few good hours in testing different setups. I have been using a Fujin V2 as my top lever. I also owned an Airbag and a standard Fanta before, also tried some Crowns. I found the Airbag to loose. Also, I didn’t like that it fails a “flick test”. The Golden Fanta will be my new lever, the customization and feel of the parts is great, I love it. I cannibalized that Airbag and kept the housing, switches (AM51630C69N) and bottom plate. The Golden parts I preferred most right now are the 75shore clear Grommet, 10mm shaft and 17.5mm actuator. I put these in a Jasen’s Customs PFSIII Korean and attached a green aluminum battop.

Here is my review of the parts and quality. Since this was a prototype product I’m going to be critical. Overall nothing would prevent me from recommending this.

Packaging: The packaging and plastic container held up well on the journey to the US. When unpacking the bronze pieces the tape used stuck to them and left a residue. I got most of it off with dish soap and warm water but it took 5 minutes of picking at them to remove it all; annoying.

Dust Washers: These all fit well and look nice. Unfortunately every one of mine had a chip or 2 out of the surface or the edges of the bronze color was messed up. This could have been caused by the way they were packed in shipping or manufactured, I’m not sure.

Actuators: All these looked great and fit great on the shafts. Personally I liked the biggest one. I bought the cone one but found it left the diagonals to tight for my taste.

Shafts: All of these also looked and fit great. I love a short throw and the shorter activation mixed with the large actuator. I felt the 11mm shaft didn’t let me get deep enough in the corner making the diagonals to tight.

Grommets: These all felt high quality. Second, they stunk… terribly. They actually gave me a headache, haha. I had to move them to the window and then into their own ziploc bag. Besides that they worked great. The blue and green failed the flick test. The red was nice but I liked the clear 75shore better. The objective of the grommet, to me, should be the fastest return to neutral possible while not over correcting/erroneous inputs. I ordered a 85shore but it was difficult to get on, so difficult I ripped it while I was trying to put it on. I don’t think its practical for that reason. The Red and 75shore took a bit of persuasion to put on/off, but weren’t bad and took no damage. Using the Clear now.

Acrylic Reinforcement: This was made well and looks cool. It fit tight. I don’t think it is as good as the metal one that comes on an Airbag. That one is thinner and also has a extra nub that goes into each switch to provide a second point of stabilization. I think the Fuijin’s is the superior of the 3 though. It’s metal and fits between the casing and switches with a second screw in the switch. I think something like this would be way better than the acrylic.

Overall the parts all felt high quality and the customization level was the best. Highly recommend this future kit for any Korean lever enthusiast.

OMG LOL, it was my fault, I make the dustwasher in last minute when making switch support at laser shop. And I completely forgot about slim shaft having profile like this, this is pretty silly enginnering failure:D
For this reason, that’s why green lever don’t have dustwasher. the only solution is using elastic dustwaser (rubber/sponge)

For actuator, it seems like there were scrap left after machined it on lathe. do you have access to some drill? If so, you can try use 7mm drill bits to make the hole clear. Or simply use round grinding bits to clear the leftover scrap.

thank you for the review. WTH, No one can bear 75 grommet until now, I was skeptical about 75 when you asked, but lets give it a try. and you manage to make it playable  , your arm must be strong, extremely strong. And now you have the fastest neutral stick in the World LOL.
and don’t bother with 80 grommets, it was too stiff and will be break upon installation like you did.

dustwasher, it was production failure, the laser chip it.

I love the smell of the fresh silicone from the mold

Damn, now I’m interested in trying the Golden Fanta lol!

Yeah, me too. Be sure to let us know when the prototype phase is over and you are doing a commercial run. I would like to buy one at that point once all the kinks are worked out. Kudos to everyone here for testing them out!

Of course, I know nothing about Korean levers, but want to get into trying them out. Having lots of options is always a good thing. Anyone have tips on what levers I should look into buying first?

I had the same problem where the Actuator would get stick while trying to put in the shaft, I had to hammer it out, no lie. lol

quoted the wrong person. Meant to quote habachifinal

For those who are still wanting to try them, I will possibly be willing to ship one of my sets within the USA, assuming it will be shipped back and that you’ll pay both ways’ shipping. The intent is, after all, to provide @wazwuz with good feedback for a potential retail product. The more reviews and input, the better.

I am performing my review very methodically and will provide input this weekend. Sorry for the delay – long work hours and girlfriend time over here.

Go for fanta Airbag.

I think most of us can come to a consensus that the 17.5mm and the cones actuator don’t work with the Matsushita switches. One theory as to why it doesn’t work is that the increased diameter pushes the levers close to actuating the pins on the switches to “open” state. One the lever is released it should return to neutral but since the other switches are involved to keep the actuator centered, but sometimes either the active switch turns to “closed” state or stays in “open” since the lever pushing the pin is close to the actuation point. Dunno if I explained that correctly but I think that is why @wazwuz recommend sensitive switches for the large actuator.

The Panasonic switches found in the airbag and the 309mj have an operating force of 120g (Source). I think next week I’m going to try some ultra light switches and see if the large and cone actuators do help.

Other than that, I’m enjoying using my current setup (stock fanta actuator, 10mm shaft, 65a grommet). I may try the sky blue and greens this weekend since I do play a wide variety of fighting games (I’m sure a softer grommet setup might be beneficial for air dashers due to Instant Air Dashes and maybe I can do consecutive back dash cancels for Tekken  )

if you want the complete version of Golden Fanta, better grab this for full customization. the retail version will have less parts.

@wazwuz are you planning on sending out another wave of Golden Fanta’s for people to test or will this be the only time you’ll do it?

for 17.5mm actuator, you will need less sensitive switches. for cones actuator, it works fine on Standart Airbag switches from makestick.
I notice high tension grommet getting preferable. it is good, since it will give faster neutral and less “bouncing” in a flick. but it requires strong arms.

I had more time using the Green Game Land/Green Arcade set: 7mm shaft and 14.5mm actuator. Also used the lightest tension grommet (green) because the Green levers I tried for a quick bit at events felt light and had the wiggle. Installed it on my Airbag with the switches and switch stabilizer intact.

While not the exact same, as expected, it feels close to what I remember trying. There is definitely a longer travel because of the shaft. The actuator reduced the corner zones by a good amount. Getting an EWGF consistently is definitely harder. By no means the corners are super small but it is relatively reduced. If that’s the case with the actual Green levers, I can guess it was designed for those who are good at execution. I probably will get used to it. I will say that the reduced corners actually made backdash cancelling for sway characters a lot easier on both sides. I will test the OMRON switches soon with this set.

Sooner or later, I will get to the other parts.

I think 20 sets of golden fanta will be enough for review to find out which parts that work the best in general, then I make the retail version for most popular parts.
You can grab the one @“kodee vu” offer if you want the complete Golden Fanta setup.

some broad general stuff:

actuators feels too heavy, I get serious deflection on my setup, not to mention the “clanking” sound of the parts, it’s not really friendly to the ears. That said, I think the medium/middle actuator works best with my choice of microswitches (the lighter matsushita, from seimitsu ls-32), gives a good balance with the dark blue (60?) grommet. I think for future production, the custom actuators would really benefit from having been made using plastics (delrin? whatever they use for Crown 309), not brass.

Grommets in general work really well, I think the green and sky blue ones are my favorites for general use, it closely gives the feel of crown joysticks actually, green + gersung A3’s gives a nice performing 303FK/FJ feel (for those that prefer that setup). The Red grommet reminds me of Taeyoung tension, I really can’t play on this regularly personally.

And for those looking for such, I found a glossy/non-matte Black bat-top with a cheapo NES Classic “The Edge” joystick and I have been using that, almost similar spec as the sanwa bat-tops, almost same shape as myoungshin bat.

at first I was not sure about metal actuator. but after use this bronze actuator, I pretty like the wight. IMO, heavy actuator will balancing the battops weight.
the clanking sound a bit annoying, but it will be minimal when using fully closed case.

really liking default actuator with skyblue,
running 10mm or 8mm shaft.

I feel each gives you a little more or less from standard shaft.
Personally I kinda like 10mm on 2D games and 8mm on TEKKEN
11mm I have tons of motion issues riding gate so short.

spun the sanwa battop with the drill on some 150 fine.
similar ridges like a fujin clear fattytop now. feels better :>

My thoughts so far.
Previously I used the 309MJ for 5 months, and for the past 2 weeks i’ve been using the Fanta Myoungshin and the Airbag (The Airbag is my favorite). I also have a 303MJ.

Let me start by saying all the parts look amazing and the quality is really good. I used the housing from the Myoungshin, switches from a Crown 303 (AM51630C69N) and the acrylic custom switch support. The first configuration I tried was the 11mm shaft, cone actuator and sky blue grommet. The 11mm shaft made the throw distance too tight for me as previously mentioned by @Bullmance. When using the cone actuator the switches would sometimes get stuck and not reset. I really like the feel of the sky blue grommet.

Next I tried the 7mm shaft and 14.5mm actuator. The larger travel of the shaft didn’t bother me but the smaller actuator did. My diagonals were not accurate enough.
I tried the 17.5mm actuator with the 7mm, 8mm and 11mm shaft but the corners were too big for my taste. I also prefer the deadzone you get with smaller actuators.

I’m currently using the 8mm shaft, 15.5mm actuator and sky blue grommet (50). This might be my favorite setup. It feels great and gives me more accuracy than I had with the smallest actuator. I noticed that my 10mm shaft does not fit in the 15.5mm actuator and it also feels tighter to insert into the other actuators. This is also is the case with my friends 10mm shaft.

Going to be doing more testing this weekend :). My next configuration is gonna be the 10mm shaft and stock airbag actuator. I will be testing all the grommets and the GSM-V1623A2 switches.
Huge thanks to @wazwuz for making this a possibility.
