I’ll go w/ 2002 because it has several of my favorite characters there are not in 98 (K’, Kula, Angel, etc).
haha
here’s someone who can’t pull any single BC combo
stuck yourself at C fwdA special/dm
we live in 2007 now
i managed to pull BC combo after a day or two since i started playing kof2k2
ppl here still complain that bc combos are hard
blah
good reading comprehension there, champ
no, no, and no. Glauber and Battler were definitely not the best(Glauber gave a lot of the top tiers trouble, tho), but Heavy D was a solid mid.
I’d pick that over Kulafest 2K2.
This is bad… how?
How nice of you to make assumptions! If I wanted all rushdown and huge combos, I’d play XI. It’s less boring and considerably more versatile.
In 2K2, they played almost the ONLY role, unless you’re Whip or Billy. Like I said, if I wanted that, I’d go play XI.
So let me get this straight.
Nothing but rushdown >>>>>>> strategy and footsies in your book.
OK, I know whose opinion is worth shit around here.
I don’t remember saying a damn thing about BC combos. Are you reading what I’m typing, or are you just painfully stupid? Oh wait, nevermind! Ask a stupid question…
Rengoku you’re being silly now.
i’m not talking about tier placement
i’m talking about coolness
and glauber don’t give hard time to any single top tiers (not even counting gods)
kulafest?
kula is amont mid upper/top tiers nice matchups against gods
but definitively not so strong as any kim, leona, choi, billy
only 'cause in 2k2 to land real damage and place yourself in an advantage position you have to BC
in 2k2 you don’t die to 3 chris’s b&b or iori’s C hana hana hana
so-so
is XI were less jump happy it’ll be a great rushdown-based game
but as it it’s jump based not rushdown
haha
tardness
rushdown involve a LOT of strategy
the more rushdown you play the more you’re open to big risks/retaliation/pattern
if you mess with your guess or if you’r opponent read your pattern you’re pretty screwed
blind rushdown and you get antiaired/grabbed/low countered/whatever
you told that supers in 2k2 are difficult to pull off not me
retard
just want to go in deep at this
you played 98?
you played 2002?
just look how a match develops through time
in 98 you poke until death and punish each gap nothing more
in 2002 you rush/poke/escape/whatever
ralf in 98 can keep everyone at bay simply straight jumping with A poking them with far/crouch C and antiair with crC
once they’re screwed random some grabs
his moveset is not that wide but surely ralf’s is not used at all beside his command grab (just to tell you that your assumptions on charas movesets are crap)
look at clark in 98 and in 2002
in 98 simply by poking you keep opponent grounded ralf-like then rush in to grab (and see how much damage he land)
max him and with 3/4 C into grab you kill everyone
in 2002 you have to play real strategy faking and baiting
urayashiro (orochi yashiro)
poke all the time and more than half of the cast can’t close distances against him
plus he can punish 90% of the ‘safe’ b&b in the game
open kof98 go to practice mode and pick him
place yourself at 3/5 screen from your opponent and do crC fwdA hcfB
see the distance it conect from
if iori throw a fireball at him he can low jump, land then crC fwdA hcfB
chris’s fwdA is a free combo for him
in 2002 he have to get close to land damage
and i won’t even talk about kof98 goro…TEH scrub friendly, B,D dfC into earthquake all the time and nothing more
now tell me how much of this shit is in 2002
I like them both, I voted 2k2 because it was really the first KoF game I played a lot, and was a rather solid game. I like 98 too, and can’t wait for Ultimate Match to come out, but 2k2 is still tops with me.
Reasons I prefer 98
-
2k2 is missing a lot of chars I like. King, Sports Heroes
-
A lot of characters in 2k2 have dumbed down normals or missing normals. Best example of this is 2k2 Kim and Yuri. The change in complexity capable is almost as drastic as the change from ST Ryu to SFA1 Ryu. (ST Ryu, while rarely played this way, can be extremely complex. A1 Ryu not so much)
-
The tiers are much looser in 98. In 2k2 there really is a bottom tier, in 98 not so much. More chars are used in 98 then 2k2, where about half the cast is never used it seems. I’ve seen people use everybody in 98 except Rugal consistently. (regular Rugal is quite hard to use being the reason)
-
Most of the good chars in 2k2 use either low-effort runaway tactics or BC combo every change they get tactics. I don’t mind runaway as much, but it’s very easy for ABC to run. In 98 the runaway characters have it about as hard as they should have it.
To Specifically refute some of Rengoku’s points
look at clark in 98 and in 2002
in 98 simply by poking you keep opponent grounded ralf-like then rush in to grab (and see how much damage he land)
max him and with 3/4 C into grab you kill everyone
in 2002 you have to play real strategy faking and baiting
They play very similarly actually, The big difference is Clark in 98 has an unblockable running grab, and combo damage is saner, so he’s comparatively stronger.
ralf in 98 can keep everyone at bay simply straight jumping with A poking them with far/crouch C and antiair with crC
once they’re screwed random some grabs
his moveset is not that wide but surely ralf’s is not used at all beside his command grab (just to tell you that your assumptions on charas movesets are crap)
Ralf can do the same in 2k2, and easier since he doesn’t even have to charge larf kick. Also those normals you mentioned. A good player can counteract those normals enough to force Ralf into honesty, particularly with certain chars.
Goro- I’ll give you Goro being scrubby, he is top tier after all. (actually he’s not that bad in terms of scrub-friendliness outside of his bug). However, Goro has some bad matchups which he loses- he can be counter-charred.
A lot of the crap you mentioned is in 2k2 as well, it’s just that while in 98 it was powerful due to the lack of more powerful/easy tactics, in 2k2- there are more stupidly easy tactics that the old tactics are somewhat forgotten out.
The 50% combo, while nice, doesn’t look so good if there are a lot of 90% combos out there.
I actually enjoy reading this thread…I aint gonna comment anymore on it though because you all are doing a good job taking care of that.
Keep voting. I wanna see where this goes.
he may be a rip-off but his an ok character interms in game play.
k49 is an ok character for me in terms of game play, i like the idea that his a rip of off tetsuo
Keep voting, bitches.
2k2 4 me, but 98 is hardcore
let me break it down…basically 98 is for fan boys. 2002 is for people who are actually good and like a challenging game.
You’re absolutely right.
LOL!
thank you!
I like both 98 and 2k2 and I’ve been playing since 94.
98 is really pretty and is quite user friendly and I enjoyed playing lucky.
but 2k2 wins it for me, more playstyles, and more chance of a fight because in 98 damage comes easy(this was kinda similar in 2k1 imho ), in 2k2 you have to work for it harder, it isn’ that great looking but I can appreciate certain animations and effort, although it is a mixed bag.
KOF2k2 ANDY, vanessa, yuri, yamazki, clark, shermie, k9999, maxima, ramon, kim and whip really do it for me and I don’t think I’ve had as much fun with any other characters in any other game IIRC.
2002 because of Yamazaki’s “eat you the fuck up” super.
…seriously.
