KOF XI for PS2: Arcade or Arranged mode

Although I have argued in favor of arrange mode, I think I would like to say a few things more about it.

I personally do not believe arrange mode is inherently better than arcade, at least at the moment with the information I have. My views could change in the future when I have more info.

It seems that many people have deemed arrange mode the less fun of the two modes. To me, this is the single deciding reason over which mode to play. The reasons for this are myriad, and I think they have been discussed already. I will sum them up for the benefit of my understanding.

It comes down to this:

Arcade Pros

-Same as arcade, standard for tournaments around the world.
-Fast gameplay, cool combos

Arcade cons

-Slight tiering issues
-Some very damaging combos that some players do not like
-Some people may actually prefer a slower gameplay style

The tiering issues are annoying to me. I have dealt with them my whole fighting game career, but it’s still something I would rather avoid. I know that it’s nowhere near as sever as other games, but I would want to go with a more balanced cast if possible. Personally I’m willing to sacrifice the arcade version to accomplish this goal.

Arrange Pros

-Slower gameplay style liked by some players
-Fixed character tiering
-Fixed combo properties. More difficult to do certain combos or they are taken out completely.
-Extra characters are playable

Arrange mode cons

-dismisses arcade community
-will probably just end up having it’s own set up 3 or 4 top tier characters
-some people don’t like slower style or different combos.
-starts a slippery slope to other modififications to the game.

After looking at this it seems Arrange only has one concrete thing going for it that most people can agree on: extra characters. I don’t think anyone would want less characters. Everything else seems up to personal bias. Different people want different things in fighting games.

I think the really competitive gamers will only really care about the possible solving of tiering issues and since apparently arrange mode won’t solve that then there is no use in making the switch.

Is this all correct?

For me, I’ve come full circle. I’ll play arcade mode till I get fucking tired of Kula/Gato. Then I’ll bitch a little and start playing arrange mode till I get tired of whoever’s top tier in that mode.

Meh, I’m kinda sad now.

^ You forgot to add that the Extra NGBC chars still have arcade style spammable pokes into combos even in arrange mode. EX Kyo is in a class of his own almost in Arrange Mode.

umm I don’t know how this keeps getting overlooked but you can totally play the extra characters in arcade mode.

As long as there are legit counter-chars to the top tier, as in beats them 6-4 or worse, and they don’t beat half the cast “for free” it’s fine. ST is a game with acceptable balance, as is KOF98 (Iori and especially Goro have counter-chars in that)

The K Force will be playing XI in arrange mode, and see if we can come out with new discovered top tiers. IMO, secret characters are overpowered, so I will only play and test the characters of the regular roster.

If you live in the Socal area, and u want to gain credibility in the posts u made here about this game, play us. Just send a PM to The Answer and we can make ur dream a reality ( knowing in person the most powerful force of KOF in the US ).

We sell autographed original KForce t-shirts and pics ( no posters yet ). Im willing to sell my K4 tanktop at ebay … does someone can give me an idea, as to which price I should start the auction ?

Most things like that go for twice the price of the item if it wasn’t signed to start with. =x

These those same old shirts ya’ll had from '03? =p

^ The ammount of irony in this post is hilarious…

EX Kyo is almost God Tier in Arrange Mode…

Here we go with this again…

EX Kyo is just dumb period. At least in Arcade mode there are more characters that can stand up to him.

I don’t know what the big deal is. 2D fighters are dead, so if a group who wants to play arrange mode, which SNK did make afterall(as in this isn’t some MUGEN crap) let them. If they head into the arcade they could be at a disadavantage, but they know this already. The thing is there’s now a choice, if they want to play with arrange just be happy they want to play.

I’d rather play someone in arrange mode than play the CPU in arcade. I mean seriously you guys tout SBO and Japanese tournies, anyone in here going? If they are; why are they wasting time arguing with us console guys instead of being at the arcade practicing? I know arcade players who won’t touch a console version cause even the slight timing difference throws them off, they can still win but listening to them banter on how this isn’t the arcade…yeah I know it’s not the arcade, but I paid $60 for it, give me $2500 for the cab and then I’ll have the arcade version.

Obviously SNK themselves felt like making an arrange mode for the best KOF XI they could make. I liken this to CVS2 EO and SFA3 Upper(which got an arcade release!). Two fine games that never got noticed cause people were harping on what they took out instead of how it effected the game overall. As someone pointed out, the Guilty gear people never have a problem with this, so why do you?

No one is objecting to one group playing, it just doesn’t make sense for them to stop playing in arcade mode, especially when there’s an arcade available in the area.
Also, what do you mean by “the Guilty gear people never have a problem with this”? There’s never been an arrange mode for any home version of GG. The closest thing are EX/Shadow/Gold characters, and they’re definitely banned from tournaments.

I say let the people who attend SNK tournies decide what the standad will be AKA the people who run the tournies at BYOC at evo. Since most of you won’t even show up for a KOF tourney it shouldn’t matter. Also this is similar to how some people in the GG community were complaining that slash wasn’t arcade perfect, but were never ever gonna see slash cab. in their lives.

your post sounds like you didn’t understand that the ps2 version has BOTH arrange mode and arcade perfect mode.
so it’s 60$ for the arcade version, not 2500$

He was saying that even arcade “perfect” versions are never exactly perfect. There is always some very slight differences (in his case timing).

Well here we got people saying “Fuck Arcade Mode” yet they’ll probably never see or play an arcade cabinet of KOFXI ever.

I tried skimming through the thread but couldnt find an answer to something.

How exactly does Arrange mode make the gameplay slower?

And imo, Eiji and EX Kyo are fucking broken in either mode. Ugh.

-There is more lag in between pokes. EX: Gato can’t Cr.AX2 into super anymore
-Rolls are slower with more vulnerability frames at the end. Kinda similar to 2k2, not as bad as 2k3’s rolls.

  • Jumps/hops seem slightly slower, but I’m probably seeing things.
-A and B button pokes are less spammable. This is ENTIRELY a your mileage may vary view, but it DOES screw up people’s timings for a lot of moves, and makes some combos impossible, and yes it does fuck with the top tiers.
  • Hitstun from jump in attacks greatly reduced, especially light attacks. None of this early hop B/A business into pokey pokey pokey combo of your choice. You must be accurate with your hop in - this of course makes Kyo’s hop B whoring weakened, but again, if it takes several top tiers down with him. This especially nerfs Clark’s hop A - way too easy to hop EARLY with it and still land a combo from it, wtf.
  • Characters land funny… it’s ALMOST like 2k3 landing, but not quite.

It’s not really slower, per se, but if you look at ArcadeFire’s post, the stuff like spammable pokes and less hitstun on jump-ins do slow the pace a bit. Especially the jump-ins; in aracde mode you can do jump lights really early and combo off them or at least have frame advantage. Now you have to wait later in the jump to do them, so that lessens the pace and reaction time required to defend against it. Also I think short hop is the same in both modes.

Eiji is far from broken in arrange…well I just think he’s really solid in arcade mode. I don’t see how he’s even close to broken in arrange.

I knew about the poke restrictions for some characters, but didnt know about the timing for jump-ins.

Poking is restricted for some characters I think, not all.

I’m saying this because I hardly use top tiers so I haven’t noticed any difference in my C or D-tier main stays.

Ok, Eiji may not be as broken as he is in Arcade, still a major pain in the ass tho.

Easy to land Supers (also in tag combos), SC’s, and spammable counter wire are some of the reasons I hate this fucker now. You may need to play someone who keeps picking Eiji to see why I am having trouble against him.

It’s all good tho, I’ll just have learn to overcome him.

Any known anti-Eiji characters?

Noone can argue with me over EX Kyo tho. I really don’t know why Playmore put this bitch in the game. Very bad move imo.

My verdict is still undecided then on Arrange vs Arcade.

how in the fuck is Eiji broken? lol that’s the dumbest shit I heard since 50 cent said he was gonna make his own brand line of pc’s
