KOF XI for PS2: Arcade or Arranged mode

sorry … there will be no judgement.

If u people wanna play like u want … then make ur own tourneys, and stop bitching.

what about Tung his LDM does like 30% chip damage lol and he can juggle after his corner DC combo lol

Mai seems ok 2 me, cant say for Mr. Big, Robert got nerfed from NGBC a bit

Not bitching, I’m just pointing out something. Get off your damn high horse.

Thank you for proving my point.

no prob. U seem to be the only person here to back up their shit well enough

I know this is hypocritical of me to say since switching to arrange mode is just another option like turning off judgement but:

Turning off judgement is wrong.

I don’t care if Clark gets hurt by people turtling for judgement. The game was built like that, it’s one of clarks drawbacks. In exchange he gets huge priority and damage opportunities. Learn to end the match faster.

reconchatumare: Liek play da game and stop bitching!

Like I said, this is not only for grapplers ( eg. Clark ), but more for the “not rushdown kind of players” … read again the post I made about that.

And kof isn’t largely based on rushdown?

^ Lolz “Not for rushdown-kind of players”

Judgement really doesn’t favor rushdown players over anyone. It goes up when you hit someone, and goes up by a lot when you kill a character.

So what you mean is, the judgement system doesn’t favor ‘doesn’t hit the other player’-type player.

It’s just a different thing to exploit. Instead of running away when time is running out and you are ahead on life, you run away when time is running out and you’re ahead on judgement juice.

if Judgement is fucking over your grapplers, you’re not doing the job correctly, plain n simple…

Thanks for agreeing with me.

For example, KOF 2k2 is largely based on rushdown. Im not a rushdown player, but I can still beat the crap out of anyone in the US.

Ok, we have seen several reasons why theres no need to take out the judgement feature in kof XI … thats fine. Now, can someone post reasons why it should not be taken out ?

For the sake of argument:

It’s an unusual feature for a fighting game that can be disabled by the players if they agree to it just like a handful of other features. There is a precedent for this.

The Final Round tournaments do not allow people to win by judgement in Third Strike. I do not know if this is true in other tournaments.

It is built into the game just the same as the judgement in KOF XI, and it determines the winner by a system that does not always award who we thought was winning. Of course, you can argue that it’s just another variable in the fight to exploit and a third strike player could play a style just to get judgement points.

I think we have almost all come to the conclusion that 3S judgment is much worse than KOF XI judgment. However, 3S’s judgment scenario is only very rare. I think I have seen less than twenty matches come down to judgment in my whole 3S career.

KOF is different. It happens much more frequently.

Most CVS2 tournaments ban order switching even though it is a feature built into the game. I see no reason for this other than some players thought it was annoying and decided to ban it from competitive play.

NOTICE: I still do not endorse turning off judgment, but I think I may have been too harsh in my first statement. reconchatumare asked for some reasons, I gave him them.

Thx for the input, but still you havent posted reasons why we should keep the judgement system on.

sigh

Judgement encourages an active match by rewarding frequent attackers. While this does favor rushdown, you can still play in a more conservative manner as long as you land more hits than the other person (this encourages you to have a better defense and just play better in general). Also, since Judgement is affected by time (longer the match goes, the less Judgement is affected), it focuses on an active match right away as opposed to waiting out.

When you start changing things, even things as simple as judgement. You hurt the game growth. Just play arcade mode normally imo…

^ AgreeX100 It’s not the King Of Turtlers XI

Change the word “Judgement” to “Life bar” and it will mean the same.
The statement u made is applied to every fighting game.

Turtlers will definitely complain, and wont like to play XI coz of the judgement system. So if we wanna make this game accesible to everyone, I think we should turn judgement off. Unless you are that type of people which thinks that turtlers should not play XI.

So u want to reduce ur roster to Gato/Kula/XXX character of ur choice ? … I prefer to play with everubody and have an equal chance of winning. Some people will say it depends on your skills in order to play well with a certain character, but reducing the game to learn tactics on how to play with, or playing against Gato, thats what hurts the game. Lets give arrange mode a chance, and see if new god tier characters appear or not … imho :wonder:

EDIT : Right now only Beast of Fire has come with a valid point … in his opinion that is :

  • By keeping judgement on, it keeps away turtle play ( for people that do not know how to deal with turtlers ).

Keep em coming.

I never said it was for people who don’t know how to deal with turtlers, that’s you twisting the meaning of what I said. KOF doesn’t encourage turtling to begin with, the whole system is full of rushdown-centric play mechanics. You can only turtle if you pick a character who is built properly for it. Judgement doesn’t really affect this any further.

The lifebar statement is just silly and totally ignores single-hit moves that do above-average damage like the grappling moves you were talking about.

Every game has mechanics that may or may not help certain styles of play. Arbitrarily deciding to change said mechanics does not help improve gameplay. The second you start to take things out of a game, you are reducing variety, whether intentional or not. This is one of the big reasons I don’t advocate Arrange mode, as it seems to just remove things overall as opposed to actually balancing out what was taken away and what was given. Even if you end up with a more balanced game, it becomes less interesting.
