I always felt sorry for supes when it came to kara…here you have this insanely hot female member of your instinct species who wears a super tight form exposing shirt and a barely visible mini skirt that she moves in it all day and you can’t do jack shit about it cause your blood related.
I know I’m probably late, but just got around to see Man Of Steel last night. I’m blown away. I don’t see how anyone can really criticize this movie. Was it perfect? No. But it’s a great story, the action is fucking amazing, and I loved the characterization. This movie actually is so grounded, yet can still fully incorporate a lot of fantasy stuff like the idea of a near invincible alien, an exploding other world, and a city leveling fight. There is so much this movie did right. I mean as long as I saw Superman in a modern movie with modern special effects I would have been happy. But I like how they were careful with the plot, and added some dimension and depth to the Man Of Steel. Sure the comic book Superman has had a lot of depth too, but the thing is, this is a movie, and a lot of these things set up a more realistic world for Superman to live in. I’m sure some of the themes from the comic will eventually get fleshed out in the sequels. I really loved the flashbacks too. This was a good way of touching on key parts that has made Clark Kent the man he is today without getting too bogged down in the familiar backstory. It introduced anyone in the world who know nothing about Superman (who seriously knows NOTHING about Superman?), but also got you up to speed with his modern world. I loved that. The story was really good, and I love how DC movies are more grounded than the Marvel movies have been lately.
And some people said this movie had darker themes. No it had REALER themes. Again what would be the point of a reboot, if you weren’t going to retell the same story in a different world? If you wanted Superman to be the Superman from the 70s and 80s, you could have made this Superman VI or something. I mean there is a reason there was a Batman Begins, and not a Batman V. This is an attempt to introduce a new world, and explore the character’s psyche in more depth. That was the whole point of the Post-Crisis DC. In terms of cinema we’re living in a post-crisis world. And I love how the film makers are reintroducing heroes I grew up with to a new generation.
And the action, MAN! Totally changed the game. Seeing Superman in 3D in IMAX was just amazing. I totally got sucked into the movie. If there is any movie you need to get off your butt and see, this is it. There is no way in hell you’d be able to get the same experience at home, unless you have one boss home theater system. I also loved that the battle took place in Metropolis. I was worried that it wouldn’t. Seeing falling buildings in a densly populated setting gave it a sense of realism. Seeing buildings collapse around you and the destruction really put you into the movie. I loved this. And I like the fact that Metropolis got LEVELED in this movie. This could possibly be an amazing setup for the sequel. I mean this is just asking for Luthor to take center stage next film. Hopefully they can get Kevin Spacey back in there. After seeing him in House of Cards, there is no way they shouldn’t at least talk to him about coming back to play Lex.
Again, I don’t even understand haters anymore these days. This movie is stupid good. I’m trying to resist every urge not to go back and see it again, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. I’ve never gone back and seen a movie again, but this movie is THAT good. I am kicking myself for waiting so long to see it, because it seems like I missed the first wave of internet debates. Oh well, I will NEVER wait this long to see another DC hero movie. DC is showing it can make superior movies to Marvel, it has shown that it can change the game totally!
Do you honestly expect for a movie studio to keep continuity with a comic? Even if it’s set on the movie’s world I don’t expect them to keep up with tie-in material.
Finally watched it and went into it with low expectations. I thought it was pretty good. Not a big fan of Superman and haven’t seen the Reeve movies since I was 7. But I thought this was entertaining and meaningful enough. A step in the right direction. I understand the complaints critics have with it.
