They used the Richard Donner movie universe as a base. They used the art assists of the DCAU because they were too lazy to make their own as the movie was made as a cheap cash-in for Superman Returns. Yea, Timm wasn’t consulted. He had to step in to say that shit wasn’t canon.
yeah im just gonna chop it up to hollywood science an under explaining what was so different about the artificial atmosphere on the ship, since as stated earlier, superman doesnt need to breathe. so either superman was suffering from breathing in some weird shit krypton naturally had, or he was suffering from like a reverse placebo effect under the lack of realization he does not need to breathe.
i mean supermans powers are clearly telekinetic and grow or change as he needs them to. at that point in his development he is unaware how truly godly he is. zod and crew have powers on earth as a combination of armor, less gravity, naturally stronger and denser physiology, and innate telekinetic powers, but lets stick to the first 3 for now. it shouldve been brought up in the movie that they noticed even though they could not properly handle earths environment without the suit, they could feel themselves getting stronger with each moment, assuming the helmet let in the sunlight and wasnt using a diferent mechanism to block potential dangerous sun light. but i mean i dont think they even really understand how powerful clark really is and how powerful the yellow sun is for them.
there was a great moment missed when zod first focussed his powers and he couldve told his crew that they dont need the helmets, they just need to remember (insert some training they went through) and focus. terraforming was kind of the irrational act of not trying to scientifically understand how clark has survived such an atmosphere all his life, while also developing the same strengths, if not more then them, but lets not forget, zod and his crew are not scientist or even that progressive of thinkers. they would be equivalent to some juiced up marines, pissed off and on a mission to rebuild their planet. although the one guy seemed to be of scientific mind, but he didnt stop them from wanting to rage on earth.
i think it coulda been a little better by adding in other members adapting to earth like zod, but before getting sent back into lala land, the only survivor zod being the one who actually leveled up the fastest and most. also a slight explanation on why he still wanted to terraform even though clark is just fine on earth and potentially wouldve adjusted to the kryptonian atmosphere soon enough, so very fast adaptation was not out of the window for either of them. but i mean its obvious he wanted to terraform to eliminate all possibility of earthly threats fighting back eventually, and it would fuck clark up enough for them to get what they needed from him dead or alive.
im just going to assume their clear helmets just did not let in earths sunlight at all, while also somehow allowing them to see. so even though its shining bright, to them it is nothing. dat alien tech. we just want to assume, oh clear energy helmet equals free sun rays all day, and that just isnt the case. super human strength displayed on the ship i will chop up to suit plus natural strength of a kryptonian.
sometimes we just have to assume alien tech is alien tech and thats that. we use to, but these days we’re so arrogant and lacking any sense of adventure, we want to ground fiction to reality so we can relate with our human insecure asses. bitch can see, but her helmet blocks photons and shit, cool whatever.
i mean all and all kryptonians and superman when it comes to their powers, the shit historically has been all over the map, but if you just say that kryptonians are naturally stronger and denser then humans, their suit boosted them to even higher levels of superhuman potential, and the lighter gravity allowed for the great leaps, then the movie isnt that hard to understand. then you just chop zod up to realizing the true power of kryptonians under a yellow sun, and thats way out of the realms of physiology, tech, and gravity, and is for the most power just telekinesis.
so yeah a little plot weakness, but i think people can just do what i just did and it ends up not that big of a deal that the movie bothered to explain the why of everything about superman and kryptonians.
superman is one of few comic book characters that people ask why about constantly. lol. why can he do this but not this. why doesnt he do this insted of that, etc. sometimes you just gotta let supes rock and anything associated.lol
A white guy with a strong jaw, prominent cheekbones, and dark hair looks sort of like Christopher Reeve when his face is blurred by special effects? Surely you jest.
Most of those moments were stupid as fuck outside of Alt Zod and Doomsday. Then again I actually had no problem with Clark killing Zod, just how it was handled and feel it was too early.
A lot of the Golden Age stuff was him just sort of tossing some poor bastard off-panel… but you know that a guy who goes over the edge of a ravine probably isn’t going to show up again later in the story.
