Because they wanted to see how well this one performed so that they can make the second one the same overextended preview for Justice League that Iron Man 2 was for The Avengers.
i just want to say that anyone who didnt like the man of steel and doesnt think its better then any superhero movie to date, and set the bar pretty high again, is a fucking idiot, and maybe i will finally get to quoting some of you fools later.
also, im curious to what they will bring for man of steel 2. i think the most likely scenario is brainiac and lex luthor, since there is a lot they can do there that doesnt just involve superman hammering niggas down and being too redundant from the first film. but there is also, parasite, and mr MXYZPTLK.
Mr MXYZPTLK would be dope because magic is supes second biggest weakness, but i dont know how you have more then just MXYZPTLK as the villain since like a lex luthor and MXYZPTLK team up would probably not clash well, but you can always go dark knight style and just toss in like mad enemies in one movie. lol
parasite would fit right in with lex luthor pretty well. please for the love of god just give me supergirl already. lol. brainiac mixed with lex luthor can introduce kandor, supergirl, and if you wanted a battle of gods again, ultraman vs superman could somehow be squeezed in there.
im sure unfortunately kryptonite will work its way back in with the sequel, just dont od on it snyder. id like them to continue stream lining typical superman day to day bullshit and history, we dont need it. just look up superman on wiki if you care that much. im looking forward to mad crazy alien tech with brainiac, a stunning intense performance from lex luthor, a fanboys dream of a SUPER FINE ass supergirl popping up, and an unexpected enemy of ultraman.
yo, that sounds like fire jimmy. i need to go post that on a comic forum somewhere. lol. if i saw a movie with the above, id cream my pants.
oh, and for niggas bringing up that trash Avengers. i just wanna say the fight scenes dont even compare. thor vs loki has the power of two 17 year old 130 pound teenagers swinging at each other, hulk vs thor was cute but lacked that added punch and umph that you would expect when they got to rumbling, hawkeye, black who cares and captain america are big please die and go away characters, and the list goes on.
Avengers was hulk 3, and it had to be because the rest of it was trash. it only took a second watching of it for me to go from omg 10/10, to eh, i could really fast forward most of this shit, its not that good.
every single bit of the fighting whether it was superman vs kryptonians or kryptonians vs humans, it was exactly how i would think a fight like that would go, and how i expect every hit to look like. you really felt the impact. no struggle ever felt like two humans fighting until like the very end where he put that nigga in a head lock.
I wouldn’t mind at all if they left kryptonite, red sunlight, and magic out of all of these movies.
I made an audible groan as soon as I read the word “magic”.
I’m pretty damn late but I saw the movie yesterday. 9 out of 10 from me, honestly I didn’t know hollywood was capable of showing sups go all out. Most critics hated on this movie for the dbz style action and lack of humor. I guess MoS2 will satisfy some of their complaints but to see this movie get rotten on RT is heart breaking. I think it’s quite obvious the mass majority only know of Sups from the Christopher Reeves movies and not comic books/cartoons etc.
Don’t get me wrong I agree with most people wanting more character development. The childhood flashbacks were so good you just wanted more. Just feel these days people over analyses things to a point where they can no longer enjoy them. Henry Cavill is a great superman and Keven Costner was amazing Johnathan Kent.
Also for some reason this was stuck in my head while walking home from the movie

We finally have the tech for a real DBZ movie, yessss.
A few things bugged me about the film, but overall I was really happy with it. It met my expectations for character development and exceeded expectations for actions scenes.
A solid 8.5/10 IMO.
Someone needs to let an Asian man direct/choreograph/handle cinematography fight scenes in American movies from now on. I can’t stand this shaky shit anymore.
My biggest gripe with the film was how nonchalant it was about the destruction of Mega City One err Metropolis. (Did anyone else notice how obscenely large Metropolis was?). First off we have people being smashed to death from the World Engine shenanigans and it’s estimated to be a mile wide radius of damage from that. Second off if two buildings like 9/11 resulted in 3,000 deaths and countless injuries and missing persons what would that thing have done? IGN got an estimate of 129,000 people. That’s tragic as hell. Third off Superman barely even tries to take the fight elsewhere. Instead of even trying to contain the fight to ground zero or taking it well outside the city he just punches him further into Metropolis (which also had electricity somehow). It wasn’t even like Zod was going out of his way to kill people yet. He just wanted Supes dead first.
Forth off and quite honestly the most bizarre was how quickly Lois caught up to Superman in the train station. Just fucking how?
I hope in the next film Superman learns some Kryptonian martial arts. I’m tired of seeing these fights where super powered beings get knocked around and can’t block a punch. Absorb the impact and counter that punch. That’s why the best fight was with that female kryptonian.
He should have taken it to Florida…
Faora (or was it Zod) did use some martial arts. When she goes toe to toe with Superman she parries and counters most of his attacks, chops him in the throat and brings him to his knees, he then upper cuts her into the adjacent building.
i mean its a movie for fucks sake. you cant do what you do in comics in movies. could you imagine how dull that shit woulda been if superman took the fight into space, or into the desert or some country plains somewhere. that shit only works in the comics. if that happened on screen, snooze fest.
i thought it was nice to see some realistic collateral damage, and a “young” superman not being completely conscious of how destructive a fight is between him and someone as strong as him. i dont know how it went over everyones head that he literally just became superman like after an hour into the movie, before that he was just some dude with super powers he didnt really know how to use, but he knew he could fuck shit up, and not the greatest self control and super high obnoxious levels of moral to do anything other then save his mom and beat up whoever was trying to fuck him over and wasnt human.
im sure in man of steel 2 you will see the usual world turns on superman post devastating fight with alien invaders thing. just wait and see. its just ew to me that niggas want that stick up his ass superman already. its funny that if there was one 30 second scene where superman was like fuck, i gotta take this fight somewhere else, and the kryptonians just said nope and started massacring the environment and the humans there, forcing superman to fight them where they stand, nobody would have such a gripe and fill in your plot point within 30 seconds, and since its so easy to fulfill that requirement of some people, i personally find that to mean its not really that important.
but i did lol at lois being on supermans ass so quickly. but whatever, its a movie. you want them to hold your hand through every step lois takes to make it to superman. do we really need that added scene of lois getting on a military chopper to catch up, or going a hundred miles an hour down the highway to catch up to superman. no we dont, just show up bitch and i’ll assume the rest. JUST HOW WE ASSUME THE REST IN COMICS ALSO
I love cranston, but i view lex as a powerful guy not just in mind but stature. DCAU had the best lex.
Gerard Butler would be an awesome lex
I would only accept mr. MXYZPTLK, if he was played by gilbert godfried
It should be 10 out of 10. Faora gets an extra point.
This needs to be in every page of this thread
Realistically the movie was a 7/10 for me; it’s a good movie, definitely worth watching, but it has far too many flaws to be a 9/10 IMHO. Overall, I liked the direction the film decided to take and how it actually made me care about Superman (a character who is largely boring in my eyes), but I basically didn’t care for anyone else in the movie aside from the father figures. The action scenes were well done, especially since this is pretty much the first time anything of this scale has been attempted in a blockbuster live action movie between 2 humanoids and the fight is alot more interesting in a metropolitan area (reminded me of Superman: Doomsday).
However, so many people died that there was no gravity or emotional resonance to the destruction that was going on and that weakened the impact considerably. Michael Shannon as Zod was serviceable but he did not come off nearly as menacing as a villain as say, Benedict Cumberbatch did as John Harrison/****, Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw, or Heath Ledger as the Joker. Also any plotpoint that’s reminiscent of Transformers: Dark of the Moon makes me frown.
Overall, Batman Begins is a far more impressive origin story movie (although Batman’s origin is more interesting overall anyway). Aside from subpar action scenes and a few plotpoint missteps, that movie was perfectly executed while Man of Steel could have used some fine tuning. Definitely looking forward to Man of Steel 2 to see where they take this franchise since there’s alot of potential in it now.
Dat Kryptonian armor is beyond badass though.

Let’s not spend too much time rationalizing the way nobody gives a shit about the people in all those smashed buildings. It happens because Zack Snyder likes breaking stuff, the end.
Meh. Superman’s a midwestern farmboy. He should fight like one.
That doesn’t mean that he should block punches with his face, but wuxia-type shit would be utterly wrong for him.
But supes does learn martial arts and becomes rather badass at them. He gets good enough to use precision pressure point strikes and and routinely fights off and beats other top tier martial artist like Wonder Woman and Orion. Supes doesn’t just fight like a brawler he becomes a competent martial artist to the point that without his powers he could probably double as batman and do a good job at it.
Supes has also spent time walking from city to city, creating a miniaturized version of himself to do all his work for him, and going back in time to become a Batman-style crime fighter on Krypton. I don’t want to see any of those plots either.
But supes martial arts ability is a natural evolution…he’s not gonna save the world fighting like idiot forever. It wouldn’t make sense and be practical for a guy who saves the world every other day.
He probably has reverse engineered Kryptosaiken after his fight with Zod and co.
I was disappointed to see we didn’t get an Matrix Revolution face punch in this movie. That shit would have looked amazing with Faora vs the soldiers lol.
Zod Terraforming plot =/
Spoiler
It was rather odd that Zod continued with his plan to terraform Earth considering they turned into gods, he didn’t care about Kryptonians having natural births as was pointed out with his altercation with Jor El at the beginning and when Superman destroys the ship carrying all the artificial eggs.
Infact the whole plot was needlessly made more complicated by this, IMO it would have made more sense for Zod and Co considered Kal an abomination or wanted to execute him for his father’s crimes. I think it would have been more interesting if Superman shared both his father’s stories with mankind, then he would see (much to Zod’s displeasure) that humans aren’t afraid of him, and it would give Zod a more legit reason to wipe us all out/enslave us. It would have been interesting too if the movie started at this point with humans divided over Superman and worked backwards much like Momento.
