Last combo in the first vid was sick as fuck
I just wish that the moral decisions you make actually changed the world. The only ones I saw that made any difference were how you finished the faction quests. And really that’s just “are they hostile or not afterwards”.
Still a fun game, was a good placeholder last few weeks till ME3 / Cross X Salt.
ah, it looks like I’m right on target with “Chojin” being level 32 and ready to enter that eastern “Klurikon” zone. I was just reading up on a “best level to enter each zone” thread on the main KoA site. I finally got curious about that since I’ve heard and read that (*something people have been complaining about) the zones have level ranges that become “locked” at whatever level you enter them, which unfortunately punishes the more curious players that are just wanting to explore the world right away…fast exploration has the negative effect of locking zones at their lowest points, so that when your character levels up, every monster is still low-rank chump-status when you come back. Now I can understand why some folks on the forums are taking issue with that.
I remember that the modern (Universe and onward) Phantasy Star games had a simple and more “up front”/informative way of handling that…in those games, you’d pick the difficulty rank of the area you were going to. Each rank had a range of level the enemies were going to be at, and a certain level requirement of your character before you can even select it…I think you couldn’t even select B-rank missions until your guy was level 20…and of course the difficulty of each one really depended on what area it is…naturally the S-rank level missions from the final areas of the game were rough compared to earlier stuff. Haha, as long as I’ve owned and played Phantasy Star Portable 2, there’s still some areas where I haven’t yet finished the S-rank version. Anyway, if they implemented some variant of that approach (certain areas will have enemies of a certain rank regardless of how low leveled the player is when they arrive…heh, thus you will get destroyed for going out too far before getting stronger), I think it would satisfy most people.
Well, I should’ve known to read up on the potential game-breaking quest glitch before I proceeded with “Silence Falls”… it appears I may be in the same situation as others on this issue… basically, if you reach an area with some Tuatha guards around a large crystal in the eastern region of Klurikon… DON’T go over there and break the crystals. Apparently, they need to still be there when you actually get to that part of the quest later. If the player has already fought those guys and smashed the crystals while just out roaming around, well, that’s game over for your main quest-line. I hope they fix that with a patch since I have over 90 hours on my main character so far…I probably have an old save to “go back in time” with, but damn that was quite a few levels ago… I just hit level 36 (“CHAMPION” destiny attained!), and I am not sure what old save I have where that crystal area hasn’t been smashed yet… plus I’ve made some cool stuff recently… walking around with +36% bonus exp all the time now thanks to a new shield I just crafted giving me 7 more points on that percentage.
…heh, once again the bonus stacking gets so crazy… so, with the constant +36% exp, I could get a Greater EXP Boosting potion for +15 on top of that(or Master EXP boost potion = +20%!), along with activating the “Ethene’s Wisdom” statue for another 20% exp bonus on top of that!
*edit—hell yeah, I’m still in good shape… a previous save from just 1 level ago at 35…I hadn’t been to that area yet on this save…that’s such a relief…
I played a true might build, and didn’t like the slowness of them, and stuck to longswords for close-range and chakrams for mid-range/elemental damage.
If you can’t junk/stash or sell any of those documents and books, then they are for some quests later on, otherwise they’re just to add to the lore of the game, also some quest items you get later on can’t be removed from inventory.
Not so much, but if you play on Hard, more enemies attack at once, and they tend to encircle you more trying to get at you from all sides.
Also the bigger enemies later on are stronger so when you block some of their attacks, your recovery animation is much longer.
I just got to Klurikon (sp?) and is there a reason I can’t fast travel anywhere anymore? Do I need to do something first? Doing missions over there and actually WALKING to each spot is a pain in the ass.
I switched up and did an all Sorcery Build. The armor is ass and you die pretty quick, but good lord that Meteor spell is ridiculous. It’s too funny going up to a group of like 6 enemies…casting Meteor…and everyone’s dead lol.
You guys should check out the Future Press official guide, writing it ruined my life, haha!
Fast travel should still work… it only works if you’ve “discovered” the place on the map first by walking to it though…
*I’ll have to check out the guide… it’s been quite awhile since I’ve wanted a strategy guide for a game… just like the old days, I really just want it for whatever writing and pictures is in there. Heh, that brings back memories… I still have a few of the old Nintendo Power guides and specials they put out (e.g. “Mario Mania”, the “Game Atlas” which featured maps and info on several games, their Ninja Gaiden 2 guide, etc. etc.), along with the Phantasy Star Online guide.
*it’s a huge relief that my main character’s progress wasn’t destroyed by that stupid quest-glitch with the crystals… I’ve already leveled back up to 36… Chojin is now a “Champion” once again! I may go on to finish up the main storyline at some point this week… I’m trying to stay out of Alabastra until about level 38 or so due to the way the “level locked zone” idea works in this game.
That Faer Gorta summon has really been a useful little partner in helping me destroy the enemies. The 2 upgrades above really make a difference on that little sumbitch… “transferrence” gets you heals so often it’s funny, and the other thing above that extends his combos and adds a chance to critical hit…and that dude can take quite a beating… actually, I’m wondering if Gorta is invincible…? I’ve never seen him killed in battle…he just keeps fighting until either his time runs out or you un-summon him.
Apparently this piece of shit game is glitched and I can no longer fast travel until they release a patch for it (X360).
I checked Gamefaqs and other people had/are having the same problem. A few people mentioned that its a glitch that happens when you activate a certain quest. So fucking stupid. I’m 75% done with the game, now I have to just quit because the developers are fucking morons.
Anyways, if anyone wants to trade me another game for this piece of shit, drop me a pm.
nah, he can be killed. Mine was fully upgraded but a few bosses managed to finish him off. He can be re-summoned right after he dies though.
wow, that sucks.
I got the PS3 version and it’s usually our games that are glitchty and full of bugs. The PS3 had terrible FR during some fights, but a game-breaking bug is fucked up. Reminds of the PS3 version of Skyrim.
Hold on, wait, what?
Info plz. is it avoidable?
That was my first time hearing about fast travel being screwed up… then again, so many folks on messageboards regarding this game ONLY come on to bash how it’s “lol too easy”(subtext: "because I am such a gaming GOD, y’know… my legendary skills… ugh, this game is sooo beneath me…"), which has become beyond tiresome to me quite a long ass time ago.
Anyway, it would suck to actually have to walk everywhere all the time…hopefully that’s one thing that will be addressed in the upcoming patch. I was really just concerned with that potentially story-breaking glitch with the “Silence Falls” quest…you just can’t have glitches in a game that completely destroy the chance of finishing the main storyline. I’d care more about a fix to that than them bumping up Hard mode or creating an “Insane” difficulty. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t consider it to be the end of the fucking world if a game’s hard difficulty doesn’t make me want to smash controllers and set things on fire. Game-breaking glitches and other actual problems like fast-travel inexplicably disappearing are a bit more important than that… then again, that’s just me… one fairly reasonable guy in a world of unreasonable people…and that’s putting it “nicely”. If I were a game developer… it would take such an incredible amount of restraint for me to refrain from telling the gaming audience some harsh, ugly truths about themselves. They’d rebel and boycott my games purely out of spite at that point, and I’d be out of business just like that.
Whatever, I’m still having fun over in Klurikon… level 37 now, hanging out with the folks over at House of Sorrows. The “Robes of Sorrow” I recently got for them would be perfect on my 2nd character… it’s a shame the stash box apparently isn’t shared between characters though… I think it was a quest reward item, so he’ll get it eventually.
Apparently it happens if you don’t finish the quest “Her Righteous Fury”, but I looked through my side quest log and I didn’t see it listed so I’m assuming its something else. It happened once I arrived by boat to Klurikon.

I have never claimed to be any sort of “gaming GOD”, but the difficulty being so toned down was a huge part of the reason I had no interest in playing through it a 2nd time. Even on “Hard” and running a full Dagger spec, there wasn’t a single enemy (or group of them) or boss that couldn’t just be killed by mashing out XXXX and using the combat roll. And this was with quest reward gear, not even Blacksmithing / Sagecrafted gear. I played through almost all of the game as a pure finesse character to make the combat more interesting.
It’s a fun game, but if they made an option for the game to require tactics other than mashing Strike, I would have played through it again.
Also, there were a few broken quests in my time with the game. The one I remember clearly was to water 3 cacti in the desert zone, and it couldn’t be finished. Couple others too, but plenty excess quests to still be able to hit the level cap with ease.
Well, my main character just hit level 39 and will be in Alabastara soon… I just got the “Sorrow” staff from completing the House of Sorrow’s storyline. This staff is THE SHIT! It also is one of the first staffs I’ve seen that looks cool… it’s like dark wood with a human face at the top, constantly crackling with lightning energy. It does something like 111 lightning damage + some fire as well if I recall.
The final battle in the House of Sorrows’ story-- I got 47,000+ exp off that shit! I’m probably ditching some of the exp boosting materials now…I have the “Robes of Sorrow” which adds +2 to Sorcery abilities
If anyone is playing this on X360, can you tell me if there’s been any updates in the past 4-5 days? I’m too lazy to put the game in and see if they may have fixed my fast travel bug.
Well, no updates yet other than the DLC that was just released.
*I’m having fun with “The Legend of Dead Kel” so far, though unfortunately I’ve just hit the level cap (40) with my main character. I finally just looked up the backpack locations on youtube since I was still dealing with a “90” spot personal inventory… I’m up to 110 now. Anyway, this DLC is shaping up to be much longer than what I was expecting, and apparently you can have your own fortress constructed… that little gnome I met earlier is taking care of that at the moment. There’s also pets, but the unfortunate thing is that they don’t actually get to walk around with you…that would’ve been quite awesome… I have a “Barghest” and a Boggart so far as pets.
Anyone getting this DLC should gather up whatever items and potions you’d want before setting sail for the island, as it will be awhile before you can return to Rathir… certain things have to be done in that main “Dead Kel” quest before you can start traveling back and forth between the island and the rest of the world.
115 total hours played for me so far… and still enjoying it…
holy shit
vague spoiler with the DLC…
Spoiler
my character is a KING now…! I actually have political power?! This shit is so awesome… I even have a throne.
If anyone is expecting more stuff from this game…nope.
This recent bit of news is depressing, and is a reminder that even if you make a game that sells well (especially one that’s a new IP), your reward could be a layoff. I think part of the problem was the game being government-funded.
looks like other companies are trying to hire them up and get them jobs, which is pretty cool. but it suck that it had to come to that at all
