Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Good, the three so far have been serious letdowns. I thought at least The Widow would be a half spider beasts of destruction but NOPE! Hippie Fae normal lady.

Level ten, focusing on Finesse/Magic and only done two missions of the main quest so far.

Yeah there are quite a few boss fights that are disappointing, but the good ones make up for it.

I’m starting the game over on hard, god damn its a bitch.

I have only done the first quest or whatever in the main story line. I made it to the first town you go to and Ive just been doing side quests and wandering. I cant tell you how long I have played though. Steams says Ive played for 40 hours or so but I tend to just leave that shit paused for hours and hours.**

Does it tell you somewhere the weight of your items?

I’ve played for 9 hours and only done two parts of the main quest, still have the Into the Light stuff. I mainly just explore, find side quests and do a bunch at once.

No Weight is a non factor in this game, just the amount of items you can carry is limited. You can buy a backpack though that gives you room for 10 more items for 7,500.

To people playing on console…

Please tell me someone has found a way to use abilities without having to go into the abilities menu and mapping that ability to a button. For example, I currently have five abilities, one of them is healing.

I don’t have the healing ability mapped to any button so when I need to heal I have to open the menu, go to abilities and map the health ability to a button. Then after I finish using health surge I have to go back to the abilities menu and replace it with whatever ability I had mapped to that button before. It gets tedious really fast. I can’t even find a way to use healing from the abilities menu, I literally have to map Healing surge to a button, exit the menu and use it, and then go back and take healing surge off my mapped buttons.

Anyone found a way around this? Has anyone found a way to use abilities directly from the abilities menu or found a way to map abilities elsewhere besides the four main buttons?

Sadly no… its a problem that translates into alot of other aspects of the game as well.

They have that quick use menu but its relegated to only using potions which is dumb as hell, maybe they will patch it but I doubt it.

Thanks…

Wow, that’s pretty ridiculous. How does something like this slip under the radar? I don’t understand wht we can’t map abilities (or weapons) to the quick menu.

Probably worried about weird shit with quick mapping weapons, I heard you can " juggle " an enemy infinitely by switching weapons mid combo.

meh, its annoying but I checked the KoAR forums and some people have brought it up so a fix might actually happen.

I’ve put a fair amount of time into this and I’m loving it so far. Running a pure finesse spec on pc. Mouse and keyboard is just fine. for some reason left control is run and c is stealth but not a big deal and probably something i could change if I really wanted to. and being able to map abilities to the 1-0 keys and then just right click to use is really handy. Plus mouse wheel to switch weapons, although it would be nice if you could rotate it through more than two. Word of advice, I wouldn’t put any points into lockpicking or whatever the decursing one is. Lockpicking is easy and the picks are plentiful. Decursing not so easy but it seems to me cursed chests are fairly rare and after the first few levels 1k gold to get healed isnt a big deal. Although its annoying that I have to find a healer, surely you can make a potion to uncurse yourself?

I have a level 18 Ranger so here are my thoughts so far.

Game is good I like it, it does have some issues but a solid first outing. The game tries to let you level as you please and let you play with multiple trees. Honestly though you are still far better off specing in one class and rolling with it. I multi-speced until level 10 and once I just went all finesse, the game got 10 times easier then it already was. Your first house is in Webwood in the town there, so I suggest going down there and doing that asap. Once you get the house and all the upgrades you get your alchemy, sage crafting, a bed to rest in for free(resting regains your health), some herbs to pick in the basement and you can change your appearance. The potions except for Life and Mana are not even necessary, although I do recommend using the ones that give you more exp. They can make boss fights easier, not that they are really that hard to begin with. Money is a non issue at this point, I have 50k at almost all times and I can spend it down to 1k and be back to 50k in 20-30 minutes. Lockpicking is worthless to put points into, blacksmithing is a must. You can make much better armor and weapons then you can pick up. Stealth is cool but it is mostly novelty, the OHK is very inconsistent and more often then not will not happen even with max damage in stealth. Save your fate for the bosses if you are in a quest, they almost always summon minions and the XP you get there will be far greater due to the boss encounter. Sage Crafting is probably the second most important skill to put points in. Alchemy is optional, potions are plentiful and cheap. I have yet to put one point into Alchemy.

Some asshole things you can do as a Rogue.

Set Ice Traps(you can set up to 4 if you have it maxed out). Fire some arrows until the enemies come running at you. While backing up wait for them to run into the ice traps(alot of the times this will result in them going into a knockdown) and use the volley shot you have with your bow repeatedly for big damage. Once you fire acouple volley shots you can also run up and hit them into the volley if it looks like they are running out of it. You can also hit them into the ice traps.

If you are fighting a single opponent you can sneak up behind him and stealth hit him. If it does not 1HK you can then throw down the bomb to get another chance at a backstab and a 1HK. At worse you get 2 chances to do good damage for no penalty whatsoever. Poison is a motherfucker in this game to, it is definitely worth investing in poison if you plan on running rogue.

As far as Feyblades vs Daggers here is my thoughts so far and I might be completely wrong. Feyblades are better at dealing damage, Daggers seem to get more stealth kills and more crits.

I completed the House of Ballards quest line so far.

Also roll is your friend, as a rogue it is far better to roll then to block with your shield.

Bows are really really really fucking good, it is probably a good thing they have a respawn time or they would easily be OP.

If you get high enough in Sorcery the roll become a flashy teleport, which works wonders against larger enemies like trolls when they charge at you with their clubs.

If they charge at me the rogue has an ability that lets you literally dash through the enemy and make it where you are behind them. I abuse this like the fucking plague to.

flashy teleport, like level 1 directional Time Control in Fable 2? I’m snapping that up ASAP.

Anyway, I’m coming up with combos resets and shit LOL. Guard cancelling can help with juggles too. Definitely needs to have other spells/talents mappable.

If you use the shadowblade (?) dont level it all the way up. Keep it at like 2, still useful, still interrupts moves, does good damage, and uses very little mana. leveling up of course makes it stronger but it uses far more mana.

Yeah, it even does a little frost damage and you can smash crates with it too.

And so it begins… the latest vessel of the Chojin arrived to the world of Amalur, and began his journey. This mysterious being would eventually wield a level of power that is beyond human comprehension.

I’m going for my usual combat preference here— a battle-mage type of character… Might+Sorcery. This is always the most satisfying character type for me in an action rpg. My character “Chojin” is already incredibly bad-ass.

Ok, so I found this - http://forums.steamgames.com/forums/showthread.php?s=8580b9a7cbb5f9e44db23a7d741821c0&t=2527957 - but I dont know what to do with it. I looked at some dudes screen shots and would like to use the settings he has but I dont know where to put shit or how to apply it. Anyone know how to fuck with this shit?

I also found a little tool that allows you to adjust FOV. Its called Widescreen Fixer and it can be found here - https://www.widescreenfixer.org/
You will need to download the Kingdoms of Amalur plug-in here in post number 95 - http://widescreengamingforum.com/forum/forums/multi-monitor-gaming/multi-monitor-gaming/19381/kingdoms-amalur-reckoning-rally-multi-s?page=9 -. Just follow the instructions.

Edit - I think I got that FXAA Injector shit figured out. I couldnt get a page to load earlier and thats the page that has the instructions. It loaded now so I should be able to get it sorted.

Finished the game this afternoon, just under 30 hours.

The ending is a bit under-whelming, but it’s cool because you get to keep exploring/questing after you finish, which is good because I didn’t really explore at all. All in all, a solid game. 7/10.

Can’t wait for the MMO of this.

So, I’m putting all points into Blacksmithing so far, as I’ve seen the insane potential of it already, and it’s just such a cool thing to me that I get to salvage for parts and then create weapons that are much better than stuff I’ve found…and then I get to name that shit too…it’s awesome. I’m saving up materials until I have 1 or 2 more points in it though so I can get some even better results… I think it’s up to 6 or 7 points in that category for my character so far, and I’m getting close to leveling up again (as of late last night Chojin is level 11…a few points were in Detect Hidden, which pays off right away as there’s lots of loot spots you normally won’t notice otherwise, plus you sometimes get extra gold just for having that skill.) I look forward to that milestone where I can use gems in the crafting process.

I’m still going the Might/Sorcery route… currently “Battle-Mage” as of yesterday with my flashy new teleport ability. There’s some eastern area on the map I wandered off to that has tons of enemies, so I leveled up quite a bit yesterday… it’s wolves, assassins and other things all over the place in that area…then I found this bad-ass ice-element sword. I can’t get enough of this game…it’s all I really want to play right now.

I’m re-speccing on my dayoff. I wasted the first 2-3 Level Ups, because I didn’t know about hitting R2 or L2for the other page. I put points in shit I didn’t even want, because I had them and couldn’t start the tree I thought until I filled the base stats.
