King of Fighters XIII is out on PS3 and 360!

We finished up the KOF XIII Ranbats at Southtown arcade and they’re up for viewing on iplaywinner’s archives by now. Check it out and see how hype the $174 pot was!

$174? What was entry fee?

Where is the East Coast hype for this game? I’ve asked a few guys on Streams and it has a lukewarm response. People can’t get enough of that MARHVELL bullshit.

I’m stepping into KOFXIII as my first SNK fighter! I’ve had this game since Friday and been spending a lot of time in tutorial, mission mode and practice and I have a question for the more regular players of the series. I’m having serious trouble pulling off the drive cancels and things that even lead into the super cancels, is it just a problem of not doing the motions fast enough and needing to spend kore time to get used to the mechanics or is there an easier trick to getting accustomed to it?

I don’t ever use charge characters for any fighting games but I really want to use Leona in my team but simple thinga like her mission 5 make it hard for me to want to dedicate the time into her(st.hk, d~u.p, drive cancel b~f.k, super cancel into super). Even Athena’s simple dp drive cancel into psycho ball seems to be asking a lot…

Usually you need to Drive Cancel on a specific hit of a move, but my advice is to press and continue to hold down whichever button you’re pressing when you’re trying to Drive/Super Cancel a move since it then continues to input the special motion for extra frames. So try doing *dp+A/C then qcb+[A/C] *and see if it helps with the timing.

I’m East Coast but I doubt you and I are anywhere near each other. Not a fan of MVC3 myself.

Leona, niice! She’s in my team too, usually my opener. I don’t have the console version yet, it should be here on Tuesday I hope, but I might be able to help, nonetheless. Leona is especially tricky cause you’ve gotta keep her stuff charged.

Something you might wanna practice to get a good flow with Leona is this:

Go into practice mode, max all the bars and stuff… push the training dummy into the corner as far as he/she’ll go and walk Leona straight next to it. Do a defensive crouch and hold it (charging both d,u and b,f moves) and activate drive mode to get unlimited cancels. Then, do a d,u+p (i usually use light p) but instead of doing it straight from 2,8 (d,u) do it from 1,7 (defensive crouch to backward jump) so you keep the charge for the upcoming b,f. As soon as her slasher goes off, roll the stick (or pad) from 7 to 6 (backward jump to forward) in a circular arc (instead of b,f) and then hit light kick. Immediately after pushing that k, go back into the defensive crouch position to charge for another d,u, and repeat. You can do the two moves over and over again in succession for as long as you have drive meter. Once you get used to the timing (the inputs are pretty fast) you can try to add the other stuff in.

You don’t have to do the circular arc roll from 7 to 6, I just find that it flows better for me that way. It will work just as well going in a straight line instead. The input is so fast that the game will recognize it either way.

Leona is a very worthwhile character. I use her as my opener because her specials are so good, I rarely use her to pull off combos and instead build up tons of drive meter. She has amazing zoning capability. Once you get used to her you can have your opponents constantly worried about going on the offensive and at the same time paranoid about getting pushed into the corner.

So which version are ppl gettin? ps3 or x360? Im probably getting for both

I’m getting the 360 version. I don’t yet have a PS3. My Gamertag is currently in stasis because it got hacked or something. I might have to create a new one. I’ll post it here when I get it though.

The sign-ups were $7 dollars. 2 dollars goes to the house and 5 goes into the pot. So in actuality it was 170 dollars (My bad). The extra one hundred dollars came from STA and I contributing $100 into the pot if we got 12 players. We got 14 so it was pretty nice.

I’m getting both versions. I’ll be picking up the 360 version midnight. If anyone wants to play and try the online let me know. I’m in California.

Seeing as how every company is doing it no. I mean we better stop gaming if that’s the case cause as right now even if its not on disc chances are it was already planned anyway. All I see it as it do you want to get nickle & dime’d now or later.

This one doesn’t bother me really as I get a stage and theme music for 5 bucks and not just the character.

This video is pretty sweet. Check out his other uploads too, he’s got lots of in-depth combo videos for a ton of the characters.

Guys, is 98 Iori going to be a pre-order bonus, or do we ALL have to purchase him via DLC next month?

Is going to be for purchase via DLC next month. You don’t have to pre-order.

So how is the netcode so far? A buddy of mine has had it for a week now and the code is ass thus far for him. I am giving the benifit of the doubt b/c it is b4 street date for that reason. I had a chance to get it tonight but I held off to see how it turned out.

Yeah, getting the hang of her style so I’m slowly looking into her BnB combos as well, problem is that I gotta find 2 more characters I like haha.
Haven’t played online but only unlocked Billy so far, no idea on Saiki…probably replaces Ash in one of the “here comes a new Challenger” fights…

But if you pre-order the game, you can get him? Because I pre-ordered at GS. Wherever I look the only listed pre-order bonus is the 4-disc soundtrack set…

I’m still kinda searching myself. Leona and Kula are for sure on my team. I wanted a more traditional fireball/dragonpunch character to fill the last slot, so for now it’s Athena, but could change whenever. If only Terry still had his Power Dunk, it would be him for sure. Also thinking about Andy, Robert, and Kyo.

It’s really cool to hear that KOF has a mission mode! Not used to that kind of stuff packed in to a KOF game. That’ll take a chunk out of my time. I really hope the online play is playable. If it’s not, they better be patchin’ the QBert out of that mofo, and soon!

Mature has a sweet set of moves, rekkas and a cross up special move~

Yeah, I heard KoFXII was pretty bare in features so SNK pumped XIII up full of goodies! Hopefully the local casuals take to KOFXIII, pretty much AE and UMvC are still dominant while MK is dead and other fightes are lesser played(BBCS2, Tekken, AH3 and etc…).
