Keyboard Users?

^Wow, you play on that? That is pretty cool I must say. I know it works well for you, I have seen it first hand =] Looks wild.

They have other colours but the pink one is the one that is displayed the Sanwa website.

I think he uses the shorter versions.
The Pretzel he does completely.

Thanks!
But we are going to use a Vocalninja Custom Control Panel for it and drop that into an Hori Real Arcade Pro.

lol, read your own sig. There’s the answer.

Hm? I’m not sure what you mean.

Anyway, I decided to practice on keyboard because I suck with tiger knee motions in ST. Finally figured out that you actually have to let go of :uf: before hitting a kick for it to go off reliably. I must be slow but, yay me?

For example: Watch this video first note how it seems that Boxer doent need to charge his specials -

You charge buffalo headbutt down+up, but you do this by down/back+up/back. Up/Back means that you are charging because you are hitting back, this allows you to do any of his back towards specials. Essentially it means that you can play Balrog and always have a stored charge. You need to be able to do this at high level because the opponent will try to keep you as far away its the only way to close distance quick enough.

This is probably the ultimate example, this is truely skillful (also includes explanation how it was done) -
For those that don’t play ST. Dictator has no reversals (exception of his super) that give him invunerability, you’ll have a hard time if cornered. So if Zangief corner traps you with an empty bar you are screwed.

:nunchuck:

I’ve never encountered any issues charging back for a special while doing the buffalo headbutt. What exactly makes you say this can’t be done on keyboard?

I was saying using Balrog at a high level with the turning punches, comboing supers etc. I shouldn’t say it can’t be done, just its far far easiers on stick

Ahh, I gotcha. I wasn’t sure if there was a high level technique that couldn’t be done on keyboard that I didn’t know about because I never played balrog high level.

In general I found charging really easy on keyboard, but it just comes down to personal preference again. For me, being able to definately charge a direction while you do other motions is one of the real strengths of the keyboard layout since you can use 1 finger to charge a button and 2 or 3 others for the other directions. From UMK3 throw avoidance I got used to hold back during absolutely everything.

There’s been a lot of comments about, “It’s easier on a stick.” I have a hard time believing that. I think with the number of fingers one is using, as well as the fact that all the movements have their own key, I would say that the high-level of play for Balrog and other charge characters would be easier on a keyboard. But, again, it’s all personal preference, and what is easier for some might not be easier for all.

Yes of course, I made an effort to learn stick as soon as HDRemix came out because there is no keyboard support. After 2 months I could see that there was a few strategies I was missing out on. But I had a $20 keyboard, if you are willing to spend $80 or more on one you probably wont have any of these problems.

No, that’s not the answer. You wouldn’t say the controller is better than keyboard+mouse for first person shooters, or a controller/keyboard is better than a wheel for racing games.

I’m not even sure if you guys ever used a stick before.

@The Furious One: I don’t have to look when I type.

I will say this, ST was design for stick it makes sense that this would be the best peripheral to use. However look at games like alpha 3 and Street Fighter IV which were designed with pad users in mind, and from my experience pad does seem a hell of alot easier to use in that game even with the crappy xbox360 pad.

I have a hard time playing with a pad, that’s why I quit the game for now.

I’ve used stick quite a bit. Its my favorite choice after keyboard. I used to play on pad but can’t get used to it any more.

And your examples don’t apply. The fighting games we are talking about here rely on switches, nothing more. There’s a big difference when you start talking about games that are now primarily designed for analog controllers (a mouse, a steering wheel). If you look at older FPS and racing games that were not designed for analog controllers, then keyboard, stick, pad, its all the same again and its all like your opinion man…

You have to accept that your opinion of keyboards in this situation is not actually a fact and not something you can argue for and in some way win. All you are trying to do is convince people that use keyboards easily in fighting games that its impossible to use keyboards easily in fighting games. And that’s not ever going to amount to anything.

I have both a with dualmodded HRAP fully loaded to the tits ( ls-32, premium seimitsu GX buttons, plexiglass, etc etc), and the unholy hybrid that I posted a page or 2 back.

Joysticks just are not as precise to me since inerrantly hitting a direction when returning to neutral or performing a motion is a huge problem that doesn’t exist with a keyboard. Also, for whatever reason my joystick requires me to hit slightly between the 3 o’ clock and 2 o’clock position to register a “forward” for the purposes of a special. You just do not have that problem with a keyboard since you know exactly what direction/diagonals you’re hitting

Yeah many joysticks have d-pad problems, especially XBOX360 ones

Good points for keyboard as well

**It is preference. **
Everybody ends up with what they are best with.
I have used plenty of computer mice and mouse pads to back that up.
(Not limited to the ones shown here.)

I like the Razer Diamondback, I now know that I do not like cloth mouse pads:

I got a Razer Lachesis when the switches on my Razer Diamondback died,
I now know that it is crap.
So I got a Razer Diamondback 3G.

For driving video-games in an arcade cabinet,
I like a steering setup.
However I prefer a joy pad.
If I could plug in a joy pad in that cabinet (some cabinets have that option), I would.
In a real car I rather have a steering wheel, gear shift stick, clutch, break and gas pedals.
I do not like flipper shifters either.

I have used plenty of joy sticks.
(Not limited to the ones shown here.)
I also like the directional pad of a SHVC-005 joy pad.

Looking for a bat top joy stick, I ended the Korean way:

Went the Hori way, still a bat top preference and also a flat button preference:

So far I prefer this joy stick:

Obviously you can not play The Typing of the Dead without a keyboard:

Preference is personal.
Forcing someone to use what they do not like is a bad thing.

By the way, trolls make a statement and keep to it.
It says so in their secret handbook that is available in your local library.

so did the OP make this thread soley to bash everyone that disagrees with his views on using keyboard? this thread sucks.

That is not the case.
However someone else is bashing people for
using keyboards for versus fighting video-games.

So you use M+KB for FPS, and sticks for fighters, and keyboard for Typing of The Dead. We are alike!

So, a person who uses a keyboard for fighting games is bashing others for using a keyboard in fighting games? woah woah woah, you’re a genius. If you actually read any of my posts you would notice that I was posting my experiences with the keyboard like the OP asked us to. When I said it was nearly impossible to do 360s on command, he said “lol rofl u suzk with keyboarzzzz.” I also asked him to play me in a match, and prove it, and he never replied back.

Were those racing games Sims? No.

I’m not trying to convince you of anything. You’re the one disagreeing with me. Why would I care about someone on the internet, and what he likes/dislikes? You’re telling me why you dislike it, and I’m telling you why I like it.

Ryu1999 gave me neg rep, and said I was “wrong.” How is my opinion wrong? lol

I am now done with this thread. Enjoy whatever.
