ok cool. i think my other characters cover those matches pretty well
what are you guys doing for safe jumps and such?
does the old stuff before 2012 still work?
im in the lab figuring stuff out now, but i dont want to refigure anything that still works.
Forward throw, walk forward a little bit, j.mk should work against 5-frame reversals. There shouldn’t be any changes to his safe jumps afaik. Iirc there was also forward throw, cr.mp, j. mp. Forward throw, dash, mk divekick also works on a few characters and it used to be an unblockable on Fei and a couple of other characters.
Forward throw, whiff cr.mp, j. hp is good against slow reversals like Sagat, Blanka, etc.
Also, after U2, lk teleport (hold up forward), jump hp.
Only “auto” safejump I know is forward throw, cr.mp, jump in against 5 frames. The rest you have to time depending on spacing and stuff (ie after sweep).
And gimmick is palm in the corner, non cinematic u2, mp slash, lp followup, jump forward lk divekick for an unblockable against most characters. Really hard/impossible to combo afterwards in 2k12.
Another thing that’s not all that common knowledge, after you slash fadc launcer jump hp, if you dash and hold down you don’t crossup, and if you don’t hold you do. Makes it a true 50/50 since good players can react to the dash and block accordingly.
Forward throw, step forward j.mk works against 4f too, though naturally the slower the reversal the easier it is to time.
Here are Dustlooper’s safe jumps from AE:
Forward Throw ~ Take Two steps~ Jump Forward MK (4-Frame)
Forward Throw~ CR.MP~ Jump Forward FP (5-Frame)
Cross UPForward Throw~ Dash Forward~ Wait like 1/4 of a Second~ Jump Forward MK (Makes all DPs whiff even if done on reversal or late. Doesn’t work on Chun-Li, Guy, Makoto, Deejay, C.Viper, Blanka, Vega, and Akuma)
Sweep from sweep distance ~ Take half a step back~ Jump Forward MP (4-Frame)
Cross UpCl.MK ~ Forward Dash~ Sweep~ Whiff St.LP~ Jump Forward MK (Makes all DPs whiff/Stuff even if done on reversal or late. Doesn’t work on Chun-Li, Makoto, Deejay, Blanka, ZangiefMust do Lariat Asap)
Of these, the first two definitely work, the sweep one should work on 4F+ but I haven’t tested it and the two cross-ups might work on some characters but I haven’t tested them either. I know Yang has more available than this, but, sadly, we’ve never had a lot of information posted on safe jumps.
Yeah and it’s not like yang relies on safe jumps. Being a dive kick character already let’s you mess up most reversals even on techable knockdown situations.
thanks guys
oh ok. i was curious because the dive kick is tough to combo from for me on the make dps miss angle. was looking for something more simple
whats the difference on rekkas? should i be using different enders for positioning or anything?
General consensus is to use LP>HP>LP on a buffered poke and HP>HP>LP otherwise just because it lets you get in more readily afterward. Some setups are based on an HP rekka finisher in the corner though, and I’m curious as to whether we get any setups off an MP rekka finisher in the corner, though I don’t have any real insight into that to share.
As for the divekick thing, I think otori means more the fact that we can change our jump angle gives us more options to bait DPs, rather than a single option that both baits DPs and combos on hit, a la Yun. Tiger Uppercut still makes me cry though.
I’ve tested MP rekkas in the corner, and for cross-up set-ups, the results were identical to that of HP rekkas. The LP rekkas gave really different results though.
There might be other setups to use in the corner after MP rekkas, but I’m drawing a blank as to what they could be…
With the 2k12 nerfs lp rekka finish does the same damage as hp rekka, so i think there’s no reason for ever doing the hp version unless it’s some specific setup.
Cool to see Acqua still representing Yang even in tournaments. He took a close match against a Zangief in the Kichi-Guy vs. Gachi-muchi 20 vs. 20 to win the whole thing. He even had a Yang costume on lol.
Is there an archived vid of that? Anytime Yang beats a Gief I want to see it. Still believe that’s a 7-3 matchup
It’s the second video. He lucked out big time to take it though but the first round is a really good lesson on how to handle Gief.
That yang outfit LOL

ok, getting better. starting to get an idea of how i want to approach the character.
just making basic execution stumbles now, and i can’t do slashes fadc ultra from 1p side for shit.
any tricks for doing it, or am i just going to have to continue grinding it till i can do it honest
I try to do it like this:
Two Rekkas, then leave the stick pointing forward press focus attack press stick forward again to dash cancel then during the dash I do the motions kinda exaggerated to make sure I don’t miss any directional inputs and then I tap the buttons twice as fast as I can.
My problem when starting out was that the timing of the fadc on slashes is very weird, you do it before the slash even comes out. But since you only struggle with the p1 side i don’t think that’s the problem. Just grind the double qcfs, it’s not the easiest fadc ultra, I believe with u1 the window is of 2 frames.
yeah, my hand is fast enough from P2 for me not to care, and i can do the easier dash cancel ultras in the game, but im not even close from P1. its like my hand is retarded from there
