Ah damn totally forgot about cl.mk > divekick >U1. It’s so hard to hit that online I banned it from my memory lol. I find cl.mk >dash > U1 alot easier though.
Hmm remembering that makes U1 tempting again.
I can’t do cl.mk > divekick > U1 consistently either. That said, I still practice it in training mode. I only get it about 1/10 tries though…as such, I never try it in a real match. I’m sure I’ll be able to do it somewhat consistently as I continue to practice it though.
I usually pick U1 myself in most match-ups. I find it to be a good punish ultra against a lot of stuff, especially whiffed DPs. I also pick it for one other reasons; so I can pull off the following “flashy” combo;
divekick > cr.lp > s.lp > cr.mk xx MP Palm xx Sei’ Enbu > U1
As you can see, it’s a massive waste of meter, but if it’s round 2/3 and I can kill them with this combo, I will try to hit confirm into it to finish them off. It’s very satisfying to land and actually quite easy to do, especially compared to cl.mk > divekick > U1. And you don’t have to be in the corner for it to work. The combo also did work with U2, but with the slower start-up now I don’t think it does anymore.
Hm, I really should learn to dash > U1. I doubt if it’ll change the matchups I use it in though. Actually, I’m kinda bored right now, so here’s a list for discussing and such:
U1:
Abel
Adon
Balrog
Cammy
C. Viper
Dan
Dee Jay
Dudley
Fei Long
Guile
Hakan
Makoto
Yang
Yun
Zangief
U2:
Akuma
Blanka
Chun-li
Cody
Dhalsim
E. Honda
El Fuerte
E. Ryu
Gen
Gouken
Guy
Ibuki
Juri
Ken
M. Bison
Oni
Rose
Rufus
Ryu
Sagat
Sakura
Seth
T.Hawk
Vega
Now that I think about it, I still use U2 a lot. The startup nerf doesn’t stop it from punishing pretty much anything it used to punish.
I’m not sure about all of these, because I play in a small scene and I don’t see some matchups especially often offline, but it’s a place to start.
Hey Guys, Im having trouble with Chun-Li against Yang. Can anybody explain to me a way to beat her.Everytime i face her, i have alot of trouble with her while i have Yang.
Basically it’s the same as most in terms of your goals: get in and push her to the corner. You can’t be mindless about your approach because she has some pretty decent anti-airs, but divekick is still really good in this matchup and you should look to be using a mix of it and j. fierce or target combo to get in (though be careful with the target combo because her focus has a weird hurtbox and sometimes it still doesn’t beat it). If they’re just keeping you out with normals and not throwing fireballs, try to sneak in a sweep, focus her sweep or hit a palm on one of her limbs. Her footsies are better than ours, obviously, but if they think you’re not gonna play footsies at all you pretty much have no choice. Divekick beats EX SBK convincingly so long as your timing is good, and once she’s in the corner we can bully her pretty badly with frametraps, short range divekicks and tick throws. Remember that we can’t stand jab her on crouch, so if you don’t know how to link cr. lks yet it’s time to work on that. Also, don’t rekka her when she has a full super stock - an unlikely situation though it is, it’s pretty painful.
Anything in particular about the matchup giving you trouble?
Yea, Chun Li overhead is my weakness. I guess I gotta hit training mode and learn to react.
Just get someone to run some Chun sets with you and ask them to use Hazanshu a lot. I find it’s really hard to learn that kind of thing in training mode.
Yea.When i face Chun-Li, i try to go all in on her but i keep forgetting that his st.jab doesnt work on her crouch so i use the cr.lk instead. Most of the Chun’s i play like to play footsies with me.My problem is they like to keep me out with normal and i use focus cancel dash in to get in on them but they keep beating me to it. My worst matchups with Yang are
1.Chun-Li
2.Makoto(just a little)
3.Blanka
4.Balrog
5.Adon
You’re lucky you don’t have to play against any good Giefs then. Focus cancel dash in is too slow a lot of the time I find; our dash is pretty terrible. Try to use the actual focus attack to hit her limbs (especially on the sweep) to scare her out of spamming her long range pokes. The point isn’t to beat her at footsies, it’s to make her scared to just randomly throw shit out so you can dive kick her or jump fierce her, and if she’s really worried about that sometimes (sparingly) you can just walk in and jab or throw.
Speaking of Gief - man this match up sucks. I’m not sure how to go about this in 2012, you basically can’t dive kick, can’t frame trap, can’t command throw. I find myself doing a lot of neutral jump fierce, standing roundhouse and palm just to keep him at bay. I usually try and just go for simple crouching medium kick into light punch mantis slash during footsies (not sure if light punch mantis is safe on block against him…I doubt it)
LP mantis is indeed punishable by SPD. On the bright side, you can divekick against Gief just fine, you have to hit him at shoulder level for it to be punishable by SPD on block (though sadly that means you’re right next to Gief, which is a scary place to be even with frame advantage). I mostly do what you’ve already mentioned, though I stop doing lp slash if they prove they can punish it. S.mk has a pretty decent hitbox too so I use that a lot as not to be always investing in the extremely slow roundhouse. Neutral jump mk is also your friend up close because it beats both lariat and SPD, which neutral jump fierce doesn’t do.
The real problem is s.mp. That move just poops on your soul.
I do the same thing you do Ides
i also Use Hard Palm to keep him at bay as well. but usually i just use roundhouse and i watch till he uses lariat so i can jab cr. mk rekka.
I’m wondering if you guys have any command grab set ups? I used to use cr. lp > st. lp > ex. command grab in original AE but it whiffs now.
Also, I landed a cross-up on El Fuerte yesterday. I was so surprised I almost dropped my combo afterwards :>
Jump in HP (blocked), normal command grab
EX Rekka, EX command grab.
x3 slash (blocked), fadc, normal command grab.
Hmm I never thought of FADCing the third mantis slash - I always FADC the second. I’ll definitely incorporate that into my game.
It’s not a very good setup. I do it when I try to frame trap people with rekkas twice and they block, which likely means they’ll eat the command grab since they don’t seen to be pressing buttons.
My command grab set up.
1.when the opponent is on the ground, and when he is about to get up, jump low divekick over the opponent while you are on the other side and command grab
- Divekick, Cr.lk, Ex command Grab
I land this one everytime - Cr.mk hard rekkas fadc command grab.
or Cr. Mk hard rekkas fadc jump command grab. cause the opponent will think im going to do the fadc c.mk and follow with something else:)
I think for the most part I’ve gotten used to Yang’s ‘different’ playstyle in 2012. I’m accustomed to the cross-up j.mk and the slower standing lk. One thing that still irks me a bit is his divekick. Comboing off it is a bit harder but more than that is getting thrown or focus crumpled off of it. If the dive kick hits higher than waist height what are Yang’s options? Or, should I always be aiming below the waist. I guess if the opponent is focusing I could mix in the jumping target combo to break focus.
Yeah, jump in target combo is great against focus and also really easy to turn into OS ex rollkick if that’s useful in the matchup. If the divekick hits high, I usually (delay) crouch tech. If you do it properly (and obviously depending on how high you hit) you should block srk and tech any throw, which are the two most common responses I see. If they use a slower normal for some reason the 3f lk should have a reasonable chance of beating it.
What is the difference between CrLK, CrLK, CrLK xxx Slash and CrLK, CrLK xxx Slash ?
I see the dmg is similar, why many players use CrLKx3 xx Slash ?
