Just Rolling With It: Yang General Discussion Thread

That combo does about 50%-60% on Yun.

STOP. STOP aiming at someone’s chest. THAT is where you are going wrong. Dive kicks aimed at the legs are safe.

Given Yang’s tools, putting someone in the corner is actually perfectly ideal. That’s basic Street Fighter - your opponent’s options are limited by having their back to the wall. You’re telling me a great Jab (regardless of what you think about it’s range), midscreen confirms to Ultra or Super, and safe divekicks (remember, aim LOW), plus a special that cannot be punished on block (LP Mantis), mean he has a hard time pressuring people or driving them to the corner?

Seriously now - go watch any decent Yang play, and tell me: Where does he spend most of his time? That’s right, up close. If that’s not a usable pressure game, I’m not sure what is.

And yet, you see both forward and back through used ALL. The. Time. Backthrow also does more damage than forward throw, and yet again, puts the opponent back towards the corner.

I expect you to be able to condition your opponent and be able to read them. It is a slow command throw - you cannot tick into it because it is not hit-invunlerable. You MUST use it unexpectedly. That means, yes - walk up command grabs, throwing it out of nowhere sometimes. The reward you get for landing it can be incredibly high.

This may be, but your point was that crossup j.mk is one of Yang’s main tools, when clearly, as shown by the better players of the world, it is not. It is certainly an excellent move and an excellent crossup, but it is not his primary method of getting in on an opponent.

I’ve mained Akuma since he was released in Arcades. Yang’s standing jab range is pretty significant for a character his size, and his crouching jab is clearly not an issue otherwise it wouldn’t be seeing so much use. On the other hand, it is a JAB. It is not meant to be a far-reaching move.

Sorry, but I’m over it now. Stop ignoring the significant number of great things that Yang has been given and make him work. Others clearly are doing so to devastating effect.

Yang is really good, and I don’t understand why people are trying to say he sucks, and isn’t tournament quality. Stupid shit like that makes me laugh.

I understand where I’m supposed to aim, I’m simply saying that compared to other dive kicks his need to be aimed super low.

Of course corner pressure is good, but what I’m saying is that midscreen it’s much harder for yang to pressure people because of how far he pushes them back and his lack of midscreen setups after a knockdown.

Actually if you look at almost all of the Jwong matches he plays him very footsie oriented, not pressure.

Yes but midscreen you can’t do ANYTHING after that. Trust me, Sakura players don’t consider her back throw (I think it was back) good because it pushes them into the corner, they consider it ass because you can’t do anything after it.

What do you mean that you can’t tick because it’s not hit invulnerable? Tick throw has nothing to do with that, you might want to look up what it means.

Also walk up command grab is a terrible idea and would never work.

I never said it was a tool to get in on opponents, just saying his crossup potential is strong for a character with a dive kick. Watch Jwong’s videos and see how much he uses it.

I never said his jab was bad, I’m just saying it doesn’t solve the problem of short pokes.

I’m not ignoring any factor of his game, just discussing his problems.

While not the best Poke tools around, the speed and range of his fierces and standing Strongs is very good. And up to a certain distance, his far MP can continue to his target combo. So, while he is outclassed by some other characters, I do not think his pokes are a problem. Rather, average.
As for the divekicks, connecting waist and below is hardly an issue once you handle the varied angles well.

It’s a positive no one will pick him giving people less match up experience on how to deal with yang, yang look as solid as yun, justin wong using yang and sako gota be a reason.

Sako is using Yang? Any vids of his Yang? Or did you mean Nemo?

^ Tokido said he “heard” that Sako now mains Yang on his blog I believe.

Yang is a very solid character and very much tournament viable; he effectively has all the tools to win. He might not be as strong as Yun, but the difference in gap isn’t too big IMO.

I think he should try “s.LK xx s.MK xx SJC “instant” HK divekick/j.HP” and “c.MP/s.HP/s.HK/MP Palm, “instant” HK Divekick”.

coughThe twins are too close to say there is even a gapcough

Do these work?

I know in Seiei enbu, That the lk mk sjc instant divekick works as that was in teh trailer and it did indeed combo, I honestly would see that as a midscreen combo and could add to mix up cause it brings you close to them so if you did sweep or roll kick you easily have probably a position to do a deep dive kick and mix it up high/low

Sako and Nemo using Yang, now everyone is re-convinced that he is good and all is well in this thread. People’s opinions swing faster than the speed of light.

Meh.

'tis the Internet - never heard anyone bagging Yang till this thread started to be honest.

To each their own, but fucking hell - the only people who are complaining about Yang are the Yang board. Everyone else is pissing their pants at Seiei Enbu, the continuous knockdowns and the beginner-mode confirms to Ultra.

I wouldn’t say anyone is complaining. People are just pointing out some of Yang’s shortcomings. That’s really it. Not like anyone thinks he sucks.

Though we’re going in a circle at this point.

yh but people done this in vanilla when they thought cody was the next ryu, when the game comes out the dlc come out people won’ picking yang or yun as much as they think they play a bit like rufus so you need to know what you opponent is going to do after jump in’s/ dive kick is your deponent is just going to keep mashing through strings. Yun and yang are for people that know how to play fighters it seems

Sako? Oh snap. Sako used Yun though.

Hm, Tokido said that Sako is gonna use Yang…
Ah hell… the basis for my argument has been brought down. The tragedy.

My observation was to be that you must use whoever you like/ are comfy with.

Nah, I meant in 3S. I haven’t heard anything about Sako playing AE, or Yang.

Then I apologise for being an ass to you

You cannot hurt my feelings, peasant. The mere fact that you think you’ve hurt my feelings is an insult. Your arrogance offends me. Just for that, the price is up 20%.
