Some bullshit that happened to me with Yun today include:
Winning the round with full health, then eat combo into genei jin, into a reset, into a command grab, into dead.
Missing a Nj.Rh punish on a lunge punch because the recovery of lunge punch dips him down enough to avoid it…
Hitting lunge punch with cr.mk into buffered hk pinwheel, he was in the air apparently, it reset him and he punished with ultra.
Obligatory safe block string into command grab me out of reversal expinwheel and counter, yay.
Being Palmed out of Palm divekick punishs because the active frames last for that long and they have a massive hitbox.
Theres probably more, and what saddens me is that this is only the beggining.
You can anti-air divekicks with a mixture of far MP, far MK, jump away HK, and cr.MP. You have to stay on your toes.
Shoulders are negative on block.
EX lunge can be negated by zoning well, jabbing on reaction (very difficult, I know), or by not letting him get too far away from you.
Yun feels as though he’s dominating because people are bad at footsies and don’t anti-air. All of a sudden it’s just like when Abel’s in your face and nothing you do is safe.
Anti Airing him is easier said than done, until now the only other characters with legit divekick pressure were Rufus and Cammy, you optionselected Cr.mp/Cr.Hp depending on how high you thought they were going to divekick you and you could FA cammys divekicks within reason.
Yun on the other hand has three angles of divekicks, to add to the mind-fuck they crossup at different angles and land different distances depending on which one they do. Its like seriously?
Nah Juicebox. You’re flat out wrong based on your statement there. You can anti air dive kicks but the fact that when you’re in the middle of pressure you have to decide on your options it makes it a huge problem when one of your…i dunno…3 or 4 options has to be selected specificially for the strength kick used, height used, and distance starting. One mistake is end of the match.
Lunge punch isnt the biggest problem really. Shoulder isnt the biggest problem. I can stop them. I know I can. its the reward for getting that ONE hit. Thats why its bad.
Like hondas J.mp. Yes…I COULD anti air it and I probably will. But that one mistake is gonna cost me a huge chunk of my life. Where as my reward is a trade (usually not in my favor) or a clean hit…which is chump change. I could stuff headbutts, but the trade is in his favor and the reward is chump change. The risk is not big enough to warrant not doing it.
So going back to yun…he builds meter too fast to make super fair. His dive kicks are amazing and juri is absolutely forced to blockon wake up She cannot use any answer against the twins. Which means, on a KD, youre heavy in the mix up and you will bleed for it.
I dunno, when I played against Yun earlier, his dive kicking wasn’t the problem =\ They can only be combo’d after a below Juri’s elevated-knee hit. The horseshit is after the Dive Kick there’s a chance that Yun will DP – which shits on your attempt to push him away.
My theory on how to fight Yun is as follow:
Footsie him out like you would Rufus, with fireballs, s.Forward, c.Forward.
Anti Air with c.Strong, or s.Jab if closer, or jb.Strong xx Shikusen.
Meaty him with Fireballs at a distance greater than sweep.
If he gets on top of you, Counter Out (Left/Right) =\
The only real problem Yun poses against everyone is his frame traps and his ease-of-ultra. Just think of it like fighting against Rufus + Ryu + Abel =P
Of course I’m only speaking from what little experience I got to play against Yuns this morning =\ Will let you guys know more when I get home from work~
OMG guys really? Stop whining about it and come up with solutions instead of crying about the problems. What’s this forum for? Figuring out how to pwn face with Juri, not cry into a box of tissues and finish off a case of bon bons. AE has been this way for months, and today is just day 1 of console. Wait a few days, hit the lab, and come back with answers.
You can use those too, but the point is divekick characters can’t be anti-aired the same way every time so you have to mix it up just like them otherwise one or more will get through.
I don’t want to be in that range unless I’m on offense, but hey, one more for the anti-air grab bag.
Kail, you’re right. There’s not enough risk for him not to do it. So stop him each time over and over and over or just try your luck with the post KD mixups. Bad matchups are bad BECAUSE of skewed risk/reward; there’s no way around them but through.
When we go to the lab, they go to the lab, and to be fair, if Juri has a toolbox, Yun owns Wallmart. His options are just that good, his toolset is just that good, ill say it again TOO MANY OPTIONS, all of them safe.
My solution is learn Yun, i learned Abel in SSFIV as my pocket high tier, and this time its Yun.
Juicebox. respect for your view. I agree. But I really believe the ONLY way this match can be played is the same way you play a hybrid of Rufus/Fei long. Let me explain.
Rufus obviously because of the dive kick. Also, they have a means to do damage from far away and get in (his roll). Because of that you always have to be on your guard in throwing fireballs and be ready for both. Fortunately a proper ex pin should take care of both. Yun has his lunge (although taking this into the lab stuffing it isnt that hard once you recognize the wind up), yang has up kick fadc which is a little annoying because of the full screen in + offensive mix up. I deal with these the same way I deal with Fei Long and rufus (juri buffs help), know your distances, know your opponents options when you’re in a certain distance. Once they leave the ground you should know if they max height dive what button to press. But you gotta be on your toes.
Once they’re in, they can stay in. Press buttons to special…special is safe move in and frame traps you. Not only that their dive kicks bring them back in. Yun has a cross up dive kick, yangs only really crosses up on KD. This is where you dont wanna be. Now this is where its bad. Most of the time, I block, and try and throw long pokes out to stuff their moves at a distance because tehy’re in s.mk or c.mp’s sweet spot range. But PALM, is insane. We must block this. After palm, we’re open for mix up. This…is really bad.
Once they’re in, its 7-3 easy. At a distance, its 6-4. But this is what I’ve been saying for a long time. Juri is the dark horse of this game. We can hold our own mid screen vs all chinese males (Fei, yun, yang). I have no fear in this at that distance. My gripe is that all of them, have means to push you if they’re safe into a corner and force you into the match their most likely to win. We…unfortunately…dont have anything we can advance in.
So since there isnt enough risk for him now to do it, hes going to keep doing it. But this isnt the problem. Honestly…I truely have no problem with the rush down. I’m used to juri being rushed down. This is my problem. On defense they’re too good. You cant safe jump ex up kicks for yun. Yun will always have meter. That means, he always has a means to get out. Especially since they travel across the screen. Second, because your Offense is so good, YOU’RE REWARDED FOR NOT BLOCKING. I can put in work the whole match…try and pressure…up kicks…kd…mix up…KO. They cannot be option selectd from what I’ve tried. They cant be safe jumped…which means…they cant be pressured. Because…why wouldnt they mash out?
Sounds like Yun is going to basically be the vanilla Sagat version of this game…only worse… Guess I’ll see for myself once it is finally up on the PSN.
It just seems to me like Yun and Yang are going to have to be nerfed. Why would Capcom ruin such a good game?
I most have obviously being playing crap Yun’s today as I won all of my ranked matches against Yun and I’m already up to C. Yun is a pretty brain dead character imo but I’m not really too scared of him.
