Japanese Hakan Strategies

So if you slide and FA cancel, you can immediately do a mk oil dive and get uncrouchable. The backward dash can also be done as an OS in case they block the FA. Not sure if this has been brought up before.

I wish someone had mentioned that the info in this thread (at least for the dive setups) was almost an alternative to the standard. I had taken it as ‘if the character in question isn’t in the standard list, the standard setups do not work on them’. And since the info listed for say balrog only shows 1 setup, I had assumed that only 1 setup had been found for him. Little did I know, that the standard setups (whiff hp for slide, t.hk for hp rocket, lk oil for air throw, etc) work on just about everyone, just the timing might be a bit stricter.

All this time i’ve been avoiding using this mixup on characters like chun/rog/bison etc.

What do you guys do with a rush down with a shoto. I get cornerd some times and akuma just bust my ass. It has to be a descent akuma. All I can do is lp or lk and try to slide out the corner. You guys have any tips or examples how you get out of jump in/rush down.

I have the same problem with akuma. The only thing that I can do is cr.lp or focus absorb or slide out from corner. If i see he is trying to do a flip, i anticipate to air grab him.

Yea it just that when akuma has meter build up he can focus cancel rush jump focus combo rush grab im like ahhhh get out of the corner. He focus is cool but doesnt work all the time. His hp for AA is slow as hell and only good for jump in at a distance his cr hk is good but has to be timed right. I am waiting for AE so he oil up and stayed oil so he takes less damage.

Got some dive setups, not sure if these are known.

Slide, splash > Coward crouch > HK/EX Oil dive.
Slide, splash > towards MP > HK/EX Oil Dive
HP Oil Rocket (oiled and unoiled) > Towards MK > HK/EX Oil rocket
In the corner: Mp Oil rocket > Coward crouch > HK Oil dive
Slide, no followup > st.lk > lk oil dive.

Anyone know any meaty slide options after oil dives?

I don’t use mere uncrouchable dives anymore, if I have a choice, although since the SS dives are very hard to time against Vega, Zangief and T.Hawk, maybe it’s still worth it to use mere uncrouchables against them.

I dunno, I think Oil Dives are a really good option, for putting in a three way mix up say after slide. You can go for a safe jump, do a meaty slide, or go for the uncrouchable, or even just fake it. That’s a lot of options. Getting hit by a few loops of oil dives can be really overwhelming, plus loads of damage. And yeah, they’re really good against T.Hawk, I was playing one lastnight. Really need to find a meaty slide option after oil dive, would be a great mix up to put in there.

Going to start looking into the SS dives tonight.

Edit: SS oil dives are going to take some practise for sure! But pretty awesome.

Aso, found a safe jump setup after oil dive. Whiff medium punch > step low > jump in HK. Ryu’s lp shoryu gets tagged, all other versions whiff and backdash takes him into you leaving him open. Hope people find a use for this :slight_smile:

any of the set up still work in the AE version? The uncrunchable oil dive doesn’t seem to work anymore:(

From what I’ve experienced it definitely still works, just not against Yun or Yang. Other than that it performs pretty much the same.

The safe slide section of the OP seems to have been messed up by the new SRK – the symbols indicating how safe each setup is now just show question marks for me. Any chance this could be updated?

Also, do we know how much Adon’s wakeup timing got changed in AE? Does he have a normal wakeup now, and what setups work on him?

It depends on the specific setup. Ones involving moves which have had their frame data altered may not work any more. Everything else should be fine.

I watched a replay once where Hakan charged his oil dive, but instead of diving he canceled his move into his crouch.
I went into training, and tried it, but I couldn’t do it. Does anyone know how to cancel Hakan’s dive into his crouch?

Come on…it is easy…just hold the button for charging and keep holding. While holding charge…press down + 3 punches.

I got confused the other day too before AE was out on console I tried on arcade charging and then ppp and then down none of them worked lol. I read wrong info saying that pressing down will do the cancelling while charging. Turned out down and ppp yeah all good now I love the charge up, zangief especially is abit more cautious trying to land that headbutt of his hehe

It’s great for meterbuilding…which makes me wonder, if you had a flat out race abusing this, against yuns palm meter building, who would get to four bars first? lol

You know, I’ll admit, I practiced only once, and for a minute, gave up, and haven’t tried canceling since.

Nice SRK bait I found versus Ryu… need to try this guys, you’ll laugh if you connect this on a match.

After a body press, c.hp, jump back and when you start to fall press lp+lk, if done correctly you will grab Ryu out of a SRK.hp or SRK.mp reversal. The bait is really tempting since the c.hp looks really unsafe and then the jump back looks as if you messed up with the c.hp and jumped back to get away.

Don’t do it if you think the Ryu can do ex-SRK or ultra… If you press the lp+lk too quick you can get hit with the SRK.mp if its not reversal, I suppose this is because of the delayed invisibility frames. So try to press it after you started falling down.

It’s making the opponent nervous when everytime you land slide-press then back dash or move away oiled or unoiled then try to -> mp them from there they think they will expect something especially if they get grabbed from the uncrouchables so oiled back dash and charge up mk dive will also freak them out, ive had some guys do shoryukens just out of fear of getting hugged lol then i welcome them with a welcome back to earth hug on their way down.

I’ve started to exploit this charging this few days and i find it makes the opponent think to jump in on hakan twice now especially during your retreat back for oil you can mix that up with this charge. Lay a trap!
