Japanese Hakan Strategies

DDT setup don’t work on blanka? ohoh, played against a blanka today and it seems true. I got a question regarding Hakan’s slide:

So at certain range when your slide get blocked, it actually gives you frame advantage? Do you need to be oiled-upin order to that? This is weird because everytime when my slide gets blocked, most the time I get grabbed and I can’t get out. Sometimes I can grab them instead or do c.lks.

Nah. It’s all range dependent as to whether its safe or not (or, timing dependent if it was a meaty). It’d probably help if there was like a picture to show the “sweetspot”, so to speak.

Yeah, in fact the slide can be timed to have such frame advantage that if you do an immediate spd after, your after spd will whiff the opponent is not yet out of blockstun. I’ve only seen that happen a couple times and have not been able to reproduce it in the lab, but your frame advantage after the slide has to do both with when you time the slide and with how far away you are when the slide starts. Learning the timings and ranges to make it safe is pretty important, both in meaty setups and in general gameplay.

One of the videos Synkiller put up yesterday has him whiffing a throw against an opponent that just blocked his slide. He wasn’t happy. ha

Hakan’s Oil Slide Extreme Meaty Setup

Hey this is a video a recorded of the effect of the meaty oil slide causing it to whiff his oil rockets or Ultra 1. I tried to find a situation in which it could be possible to land this in a match. here’s the video so you guys can see and let me know if you agree.

this is the description of the video in English since its in both English and Spanish. Here I posted a few possibilities that could be done with the meaty oil slide. I tested one with doing a St.MP and landing it on counterhit (it dosent appear on the video though).

Video Description:(Copy+Paste from the video)
I was testing this yesterday, because I’ve seen it happen quite a few times and I wanted to test in what situations in a match would be probable to make this effect happen.
It turns out that if you meaty Hakan’s Oil Slide late enough, it gives you a significant amount of frame advantage that if you Do Ultra 1 or any of his Oil Rockets, they all whiff due to the amount of blockstun the meaty slide causes.

  • Seeing as though his Oil Rockets come out in 3 frames, then I would not doubt for this Meaty Oil slide to give you from either +1 in block to +3.
  • If what I’m thinking is true, then this would mean that you could do a frame trap with St.MP in which case if your opponent tries to match a Cr.LP, you might catch him in a Counterhit. This will enable you to Connect either a Cr.HK after the St.MP or you can do this one St.MP (Counterhit), Cr.MK, Oil Slide]

The Situation I used: I made the opposing character to do a Cr.LK, and then jump straight as to bait out the Oil Rocket or my Ultra 1 and then try to hit me with a move that has a decent angle. This is typical bait that people use when they face graplers. After that I had the character do a jumping attack as to catch me in the whiff of my throw, if I ever threw either the Oil Rocket or Ultra 1. So after the Cr.LK, I did Crouch Tech with Cr.LK+LP and after that I recover in a sufficient amount of time, as to catch Ryu with my anti-air F+MP, then I delayed the cancel into the oil slide+LP as to catch him with the perfect meaty (if you cancel into Oil slide too quickly, it whiffs). And after that you get you +1 or + 3 Frame Advantage.

Hope people make good use of this video. Hope it helps out.

I’m just starting to use DDTs, and the one I used most is not coming out. It’s f+mk, then 360k. I’m holding forward but it seems random as to which mk comes out. It’s either a standing MK or f+MK that comes out… Can I not hold forward and press MK? Do I have to press it at the same time?

Edit: nevermind I hate myself lol

The DDT set up for Dictator doesnt work, Forward Dash instead. Also when oiled or unoiled it seems that cr.hk, st.lp, lp slide works on Dictator. By works it looks the same as on the ones that work on the small group. How can I tell for sure?? Someone let me know because I will be in the lab today trying to get slide set ups for the fighters not listed. Thanks.

Note: Timing seems strict on the DDT set up but it does work.

Has there been any updates on that Japanese wiki???

I was messing around in training mode dping Hakan cross up after oil slide/body splash - whilst it avoids DP reversals you still seem to be able to be caught by Ken’s Ultra 2. Can anyone else confirm this.

Dash and mp slide from fullscreen replicates this.

As does c. lk hp oil slide after an EX rocket… sometimes against some characters. I use it all the time so every so often…

Yea, you get caught by like 2 hits. But personally I’ve never gotten hit with the whole thing. Same with guile’s super/ultra I believe.

Does any one know any oil dive steups after lp or mp oil rocket in the corner?

Doesn’t dash, dash, work with mp oil rocket for mk oil dive in the corner? I think it does. If not, you could try it with hk oil dive. Still, that’s a good question for lp oil rocket, because you often do stick them in the corner, don’t ya’.

Yeah, I was messing around and got something to work after lp rocket, i think it was f>hk into hk oil dive, cant remember. Havent been able to replicate it. From HP rocket EX rocket its easy to get a dive…but not sure of setups for the others. I’ll try the dash dash one though.

I think i managed to do mp oil rocket > st.mk > HK oil dive, but I think i got lucky…couldnt get it after that

After a HP Rocket in the corner, backdash > HK Dive. I rarely use LP/MP Oil Rocket these days. :looney:

And EX dive too right? Are there any setups after the oil dive apart from the lp jump over one?

I rarely use any version of rocket aside from fierce as well. However, strong rocket is useful in the corner as you are left closer than jab, and you can lk oil safely (after fierce, lk oil is unsafe).

From oil dive, I’ve recently been using lk oil > meaty f.fp. Aside from that, theres mk oil > whatever, etc. And then theres forward dash, backdash > j.rh on some characters.

Ah, cool, the meaty fp sounds interesting. You ever tried it into ultra 1? Oh yeah, I was meaning if there was any oil dive setups after you do an oil dive?

After an oil dive, jump, s.lp, mk oil dive. For lp oil rocket in the corner, dash, s.hk, lk oil dive. In both set ups, you’re at a good distance to punish the anti-oil dive jabs with s.hk, too, which will stuff headbutts, srks, etc. If you get a counter, you can get a s.hk, f.lk combo. If they’re standing (and it’s not Honda, Cammy, Dhalsim or Blanka), you could go with s.hk, c.lp xx lk oil dive on hit confirm (it is a hk, so you could confirm the counter hit). If you trade with the jabs, you can get a s.hk, c.mk xx slide combo. This would be OS. This counter/trade stuff has a one-frame degree of difficulty, sadly. Fun, though. Hardcore stuff.
