Japan "Tougeki SBO 2" Qualifier Results - As they happen

Dont get me wrong, I love how the Japanese are willing to try out all the characters, spending time mastering them and basically use whoever the hell they like as suppose to ppl here that only wanna win with powerful advantageous characters.

I hardly use Yun/Ken/Chun at tourneys, I do sometimes only for fun

I just wanna compare the 2 competition scenes… as matter of fact I really despite ppl who doesnt play 3s all that much and just learn either Chun or Ken, and do well in tourneys and think they are fucking good.

That description does not apply to anybody in this game.

kthx

I think there are a few other reasons why more Japanese players tend to pick low/mid tier characters (not that western players aren’t lazy, but it’s not that simple).

Their tournament format - it’s easier to beat top tier characters one game single elim than 2 out of 3 with double elim.

No prize money - since they’re mostly playing for fun and personal glory, they might as well pick low tiers… They don’t have all that much to lose anyway.

They don’t need to travel very far/wait very long for tournaments - I believe this one is quite important, when there are tourneys often players tend to care less whether they always win or not, same when they don’t need to travel far.

Much higher and packed level of comp - this makes it much easier to get improve and take your character to the next level. Also, this makes winning with top tiers quite difficult in Japan because everyone is already so used to them. Therefore playing oddball characters isn’t such a bad idea.

Ya thats very tru, thanks for ur answer BillyKane

so what happening to the pool??

I think I have all the matches so far from 1-38. Is there more? Is that what most u guys have 1-38? I did a search for “TKB”, am I on track or no?

very well said.

Well its my humble opinion that Urien is trash without Aegis. Hardly any1 plays him at console tournies.

Wicked, unless i’m blind, I don’t think Ume qualified. Anyway, glad to see Xiao make it though since he’s one of the few Ibuki’s I really like watching :).

JP

P.S. I don’t think Urien is really trash even without his unblockables. It’s just that in high level game play, every player is that good, and it doesn’t come down to the characters they play, it comes down to how good that player is with that character. Also, console 3S, I dunno if anyone will agree with me on this, is trash.

Yup 38 is the last one.

Where are u gettin these matches?

Download DC++ and connect to the Go For Broke hub. Thats how I got these matches. If ur on dial up its gonna be a pain to download all of them but I can put all the matches on a cd-r and give it to u. If u want it.

Peace!!!

Of course Urien isn’t that great without Aegis, but he still has it in DC version. Unblockables aren’t all Aegis is good for, far from it…

exactly. as my 3s sensei in tokushima, kta, would tell me, when u don’t have unblockables to rely on w/ urien, employ the aegis “spank room”.

at first i was like “spank room?, wtf is that?” he explained by saying “when a child is bad, what does a parent do?” I said “the parent usually takes the child into their bedroom and gives them a spanking.”

he was like “soo desu”…this is exactly what urien does. when an opponent is in the corner take a step back and throw an aegis just in front of them so they are in “a room”. urien then proceeds to punish the trapped opponent with low kicks mixed up with overhead fierce punches. this is a great way to dish out pain & build meter. usually when the aegis has dissapeared, you have another one waiting, drop it on them again and repeat. this often times is more punishing then dropping an aegis directly on top of a player and going for corner juggle.

the only thing more annoying than being put in an unblockable by urien is being trapped in the spank room and eating several fierce overheads aka table-smash.

Yeah, “spank room” is great because you usually get like at least half a meter back, they take at least 20% damage, and they can pretty much do jack shit about it:D

Looks like i’ve been proven wrong. Oh well, I tried playing Urien once and really didnt get anywhere. Well, I said it was my OPINION and thats the impression i got from urien players who said Urien’s game is one dimentional. Of course i’ve experienced “spank room” firsthand and lo n behold i got raped. Thanks for the elightenment guys.

Edit:some typos

i do hope the spank room catches on for street fighter terminolgy. without the explanation for it, its possibly the funniest/perverted phrase for explaining a tactic EVER.

Spank Room?  lmao

I dont know what yall talking about, there are still ways to rock your opponent with unblockable set ups on DC. And Urien can still kill you with or with out unblockables. One choke grab and two back to back ex headbutts your dizzy! Then I can have fun with you or just keep you near dizzy the whole match. There are alot of ways to use that fool. And Tyrant Slaughter is great for certain characters. And why is DC 3s trash??? I still have just as much fun at home as I do in the arcade. I guess if I lost at home maybe it wouldn’t be so fun.

Oh wells,
my 5ents

Outro

DC 3s is trash for me personally, I play Oro and SA2 is his best choice for a lot of matchups in the arcade. Not so on DC, it’s worthless.

But for almost any other character, it’s fine for practice. shrug
