man i need to go where you go. i get paid to goto events and what not, so can ya tell me where you find these events?
but the dude in the white shirt  explains it.
fuckin funny
Shit I’ve seen that place before. It’s in Akihabara.
Wazap all
I just came back from GDC (Game Developers Conference)
I"m planning to throw first video game party of the year@ my place in Shinagawa on April 11
if anyone is interested, PM me for detail.
For those who knows what this is all about, I’ll see you @ F37!
This is a bit OT, but I’ve always wanted to go to Japan for a couple months. Just to visit Tokyo and chill on my own for a while. I just want to explore the city, hit up the arcades, and live the life. How can I do this? I don’t want no tours or anything, I just want to stay somewhere and be able to leave and hit up some sick places around me.
Do you guys have jobs there? Or are some of you just chillin?
Most of us have jobs or are students.
if you wanna come here to chill… you better have some dough. the dollar is shit now, so is plane tickets within 4 months time span because of summer.
buy your tickets 4 - 6 months in advance
figure out where you are going to stay
3k should suffice everything including plane ticket and stay.
you should look into backpaker lounges for your stay, and UA or AA for your flight. dont get JAL because they are putting JAL and AA flights on the same plane, so be aware of that and dont waste 200 bucks cause you think you got jap service on the plane
(the VP of AA just confirmed that for flights for the next 2 years by the way, dont tell anyone i said that)
This Sat, I’m throwing video game party @ my apt. Starts 1600 til 2200
as far as the games go, SF4(360) is for sure. likely to play 3rd Strike and CVS2.
I think I got enough games, but feel free to bring games too.
For those who needs direction, PM me
Last thing, I got fighting stick for PS2, but not for 360. we gonna have to play SF4 w pad sorry
alright, i have a few more questions.
-
is there a resource that i can take with me that will show me all the locations that would be essential? (such as the backpack lounges and what not)
-
is it hard getting around as a foreigner? i don’t know much japanese, i’ve only taken a couple years in high school.
-
i just want to stay in the city near the arcades and all the cool shops and malls. are these backpacker lounges near those areas?
-
the plane ticket averages to about $2.5k. how much money do you think i’d need to last an entire month?
I plan to come by early on Saturday. I’ll bring Redsix’s SC4 sticks. But I’ll have to leave a little early because I have to spin in Saitama around 2am.
Depends on how much fun you want to have everyday and where you’re staying.
If you don’t have a friend to stay with, then 100 bucks a day for EVERYTHING on average would be what I would suggest to enjoy yourself.
I’m planning on staying in Tokyo for a month after Evo this year, and right now I’m trying to decide if I should just rough it in manga kissa the entire time or if I should stay in a gaijin house. Gaijin house looks like it would be roughly $1000/month (deposit included) if I get my own room, less if I share obviously.
Any thoughts?
Staying in a manga cafe is fine for a day or two, but that’s def NOT something I would want to do for a month. If it’s a month, just stay at the gaijin house and pay the grand, you won’t regret it.
Like, at least at the gaijin house, you have something resembling a place to live, but at the manga cafe’s, you would have to carry all your luggage around everywhere or leave it in coin lockers or whatever. No point in wasting more money on that when you can just rent a room for a month.
Yeah, that is what I’m leaning toward. Now to convince a friend to come to Japan with me to make the room even cheaper…
when i moved here i knew shit japanese…
ugh, the closer to the city, the more dough you cough up. if you come during summer , buy your tickets while it is still 2.5k, it WILL go up.
make sure that whne you rent the gaijin house
you tell them that you are by yourself. you wont get charged that way.
Hey SRK been in Japan bout 1 week and half … gonna be in Osaka for the rest of the week before i’m sent to the middle of somewhere in japan…
anybody from Kansai, up for games hit me up…(i play mostly SF4 & ST)
I wanna thank those who came over on Sat
For people who couldn’t make it, this is what you missed
How’s it going guys? I’m going to kyoto/tokyo for 16 days this summer for a school trip and I just have a couple of questions if thats cool…
Are the tournament edition sticks still available over there? If not I’m probably gonna pick up one of those new hrap 360’s. Where’s the best place to buy these kind of things?
Are the arcades pretty friendly? Or are people usually on edge when someone new comes?
Just curious, what do you guys do to keep you in japan? I’ve heard its crazy expensive! I know some of you guys DJ but do any of you guys teach english?
And what are some decent schools to visit in the Tokyo area? Going to school overseas would be fun as I’m nearing graduation. Thanks.
If you mean the madcats sticks, theyre a US only thing, they dont even sell them here. 360 HRAPs can only be bought on hori-store and theyre currently sold out. You can’t even find EX2 sticks here, because of SFIv, most 360 are sold out. I recently saw some HRAP3s at sofmap, but I didn’t see any 360 sticks of any sort.
They’re different from US arcades because you’re not next to your opponent, so you can play a match against someone without even seeing them or without them seeing you, in some cases. They’re public places tho, if you wanna go and play video games, then go and play video games. The only person who OWNS the place wouldn’t be mad at you for being “new”, they’re happy to have your business.
Most of us teach or do translation work.
Dunno about that, sorry. I would broaden your horizon from just tokyo tho (tho check for tokyo schools too, of course). Kansai has some good study abroad schools, there’s one in Nagoya, too. All are good areas and have big cities nearby. I went to kansai gaidai and I liked it, but that’s just my opinion. There’s more to Japan than Tokyo.
