allo allo, start posting in here now that 2008 is over and dun with!
Since there are a lot of people coming to Japan for whatever reason, if everyone who lives in Japan would be so kind as to contribute to the Versus City Wiki? This has been a personal project of mine since October 2008, but I haven’t had a lot of time to track every arcade due to work. It’ll save everyone a lot of headache and reposting if people can read the first post of this thread and check out arcades in the area of Japan that they’ll be visiting.
Since I am in Kansai I can do the writeup for a lot of them, but I hope that people who live in other parts of Japan (especially the Kanto players) can help out.
Rules for Posting:
Keep it clean! No unnecessary flaming.
If you’re coming to Japan for a vacation, cool! Welcome!
If you’re in this thread cuz you have a hardon for Japan but have no way of coming here, GTFO.
If you dislike Japanese girls, GTFO.
If you enjoy some sweet ass curry rice, welcome!
Visitors to Japan
If you have a question, feel free to ask us, but first COMPLETELY read and answer the following questions:
Where are you going to stay? (Tokyo is not an answer, it is just like saying New York City, L.A., London, or Hong Kong)
What games do you play?
If you are asking for budget approximations, please give detail about:
-The number of people you will be with
-Where you want to go
-How luxurious of a place you want to stay in
-What your spending needs are (ie. gifts for the family, everyday arcade, sightseeing, etc.)
As you notice above, this aint for people who want to talk about Japan. This is for people who live, visit, or have an association with Japan.
For example, if I went to the France thread and was like, “Bon everyone! I don’t know shit about France, never been there, just read shit about it, I like French girls and crep, please let me fuck up your thread!” They would probably tell me to get the fuck out and dont bother posting or looking at this thread.
As for reference on what arcades you should go to for comp, selection, comp, comp, and comp, Refer to the list below.
Lots of credit to Renos wiki. Here is the URL for more info: http://wiki.versuscity.net/index.php/Main_Page
NOTE TO RENO: fix your wiki up a bit, there are HELLA dead links on there for Kanto. I will try to help if possible.
EDIT: I just FULLY read your post, will update Kanto when my son goes to sleep.
Format:
Name: Name of arcade
Location: City (train lines station, exit) easiest written directions possible
Games: dugh, games that are there
Comp: the comp level, how to rate it. I will use my best judgment.

Location: Shibuya (Yamanote, Ginza, Tokyu Toyoko, Hanzomon Shibuya, Hachiko Exit)
Games: SF4, T6, GGXX?, 3s, CVS2, KOF 98?

Comp: Come here on Tuesday nights for 300 yen free play and top notch comp. Everyone knows everyone type hole.
Club Sega
Location: Shinjuku (Yamanote Shinjuku East Exit) Where the big TVs are, take the street between the 2 big buildings with TVs. If the koban (police box) is directly behind you, just walk straight and it will be on your right.

Comp: Daigo plays here, and more comp than Home Town Buffet.
Game Safari

(Pat the Great)
That’s about right–you’ll know you’re at Game Safari when you see the huge Zebra butt. Not lying.
Take East exit and stay veered to the left, you will find it. Maybe a 5 minute walk. (poonage)
Games:
Comp:
Game Inn Sakura
Location: Sugamo (Yamanote Line, Toei Line - Sugamo) Once you exit from JR Sugamo station, look for Hakuyama-dori (???), which should be right in front of the station. There should be a Lawson convenience store close to the GEO building where Game Inn Sakura is, so head across the street and to the left to access the arcade.
Games: From Vampior Saviour to Street Fighter IV
Comp:
Sunrise Shoutengai
Directions: Kamata (JR Line, Tokyu Line Kamata, West Exit) This arcade is walkable from Kamata station on the JR line, and should take only 2 minutes or so. From the JR station, head out of the west exit, and you’ll see the Sunrise Shoutengai (shopping street). Once you enter that section, you’ll be able to find Pasopiard very easily.
From the Tokyu Kamata station, just walk out of the station and head left for a little bit, and you’ll hit JR Kamata station, and then follow the directions above.
Games: Virtua Fighter 5R, Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion, Fate/unlimited codes, Melty Blood Actress Again, Street Fighter 4, Sugoi! Arcana Heart 2, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Blazblue

That atwiki site is missing a lotta Osaka arcades. It has a lot of the sega ones and namco ones, but it’s missing any of the mom/pop ones (which tend to be the best for Osaka).
Still a good resource, though. Thanks for the link.
edit: I’m stupid, that site is for arcades with SFIV only. >_<
BTW if anyone in Kansai area wants to meet up for games sometime, let’s do it! My main game is Blazblue, but I play AH2 and Tekken 6 also. I play just about any other fighter on a casual level (SFIV, FateUC, Accent Core, 3S, etc) but I play those 3 on a somewhat competitive level. I’m down for meeting up at peoples places. I’m an hour and a half from Kobe in the OPPOSITE direction of Osaka, so my place is kinda far, but if someone else hosts a gathering, I’ll do what I can to show, provided it’s on a weekend or a holiday. Just lemme know, I’ll be here for a while.
Word, no worries. I put those in because those are the arcades I’ve earmarked as “the ones worth going to” lol. I haven’t put in the info cuz i’ve been so busy with work though. But all you gotta do is click on the red links and start putting in the info!
Nice meeting Gaz aka Arma (I think that’s what you said at Monte? It was loud, so I couldn’t fully hear) at Monte. Keep on working on your BB combos! You’ve got decent basics, but it felt like you had little to know vs Noel experience. Good games though, hopefully I’ll see you around more.
Hey guys. FYI, I am not currently in Japan, but I have found out I will be in Sendai for month this summer.
I have no clue exactly where that is related to where you guys play, but should I have some free time while I’m there, I would love to come chill with you guys.
I know this announcement is several months in advance, but I’m not one of those guys who waits till the last minute to make sure I have a generalized plan. But I do intend on coming to chill should I get some time to myself. Where do you guys generally congregate, and any directions that you could give me from Sendai to there?
EDIT: Also looked through the wiki, and couldn’t find anything about it: Anybody know of any halfway decent arcades in Sendai, or do most players there just congregate in other areas?
let me guess… are you going to Tohaku University? have fun out there dude. you’ll get alot of girls (if you have potential) but im not sure about arcades.
to get to tokyo, you have to take the bullet train… that will be like 130 bucks… not sure about the quality of the parties/girls out there, but I doubt thee will be comp out there.
Hey dudes, first post here (I think). I’m in Japan for a couple weeks, and while arcades are everywhere (though they’re sometimes a pain to differentiate from the pachinko-only joints), finding the wiki just now to locate the best is really helpful.
I’m in tokyo until saturday and will be visiting kyoto and osaka after that.
Definately planning to spend some time trawling around Akihabara and will pop in then, though I haven’t picked a day yet. If anyone feels like meeting up for a few matches (I play SF4 and SF3 moderately well, I know my way around other games but I’m nothing special) that’d be cool.
Also just looking for things to do around the city in general- anyone willing to tip me off on parties or cool events would be highly praised. Thanks~
Nope, not going to Tohaku. Wouldn’t mind talking to some of the ladies, but not my main purpose of going.
Anyway, that’s a major dent in the pocketbook to hit up Tokyo. Don’t know, but does the JR Rail Pass cover the bullet train? I checked on JNTO, and it says that it covers JR train lines, and the Tohaku line is JR East, so I’m assuming (dangerously) that it does.
But yeah, if I do find a few arcades in Sendai, I’ll put them up in the wiki. If there are good ones, I’ll make mention of them here.
Ok first off. I’m drunk and high! Plus I just had some fantastic head! (not as good as the sexbox achievement award story that I told Calibur. But it was pretty damn skippy!)
Welcome all to the new Japan Thread! At first I was bitter but Reno is top dollar! So everyone livi g in japan needs to support this thread to the level 3 max!
