James Cameron's Avatar (Dec. 18th)

There isn’t. The best is what they did for Beowulf - stereoscopic format (I did a research/work on 3D stuff in college).

essentially the only way to see in 3D is to prevent the left from seeing the identical image as the right eye. So some ofmr of glasses is required currently at an affordable level. The next step up would require the screen itself to become somewhat 3-dimensional which has started happening on a small scale, but on a movie scale - its pretty far away. but yeah, steroscopic is the way to go, the lens on one side of the glasses block the light waves in one direction, while the other side blocks light waves in the other direction, use two cameras stacked projecting the image on a surface, and you don’t even need to film two images. I watched the first joint from animatrix like that…WOW.

yeah I remember reading about how it works last week but you’ve made it more clearer, thanx.

I still think there’s a way :wonder:

@Ki Shima- Thanks for the info mate
Can’t wait for the BluRay release of this movie X3

Like I said, I think this will be one of those “killer apps” for Blu-Ray.

And yeah steroscopic is easy to understand, you can break the word down - stereo - scopic - and its essentially sight for left and sight for right - bootleg surround ‘vision’ is you will.

Reasearch ahs progressed pretty well with 3D visualazation like on some Star Wars type tip, but even then, that was on a small scale, to do something large enough for a theatre would just be 0_o. You can in theory use two screens with the first one being translucient, to create ‘deeper’ shadows and mroe depth to an image, but I’ve never seen that effective with ‘vibrant colors’ - just on some Battlzone 2000 type tips.

I’m leaving work early to try and see the 2:15 showing.

can’t go 3 hours without checking your cell phone?

I’ll just chime in with another 5/5 here. Story is cliched as hell but who gives a fuck when it is this well told and awesome to look at? all the actors did a good job, the effects artists did an incredible job - I can easily say that this movie has the best special effects this world has ever seen. And the movie was entertaining. Its three hours long, I already knew what was going to happen, but I did not care one bit. I’m going to see it in IMAX on Sunday, and probably a couple more times at regular theaters, hopefully today or tomorrow. really gotta see it again, and again, and again

Plus: The Colonel. Unstoppable madman. What a fucking badass. He’s like an elderly version of the Terminator.

Can anyone name a few of the trailers there showing had? I’m curious as to if they will show Iron Man 2, Clash of the Titans, Alice in Wonderland, or Robin Hood?

I’ve seen all these trailers never seen them on the big screen (IM2 was just released 2 days ago) just curious if anything new and cool was debuted for this movie.

i just saw it 3d and in imax
movie was OK, it was very cheesy and “cheap” in some parts, trying to get people to feel inspired at the alien resistance or whatever

Spoiler

[details=Spoiler]so his wife pretty much disowns him, including the rest of her family when jake sully admits he knew what the humans were going to do.

then he comes back with a bigger ride… its red and more powerful. aaand that girl falls in love with him again :rofl:[/details]

gonna end up going to see it just for the visuals. looks great.

1st negative review…you are our winner.

I’m hearing all type of good things about this movie, like its the “next step”

Is this the Jurassic park/matrix of our generation?

I am a snooty fuck and hate being in a packed theater (it ups the chances of a loud/annoying guy being stuck beside you), so it’ll be a few weeks before I see this on an Imax screen, but I’ll definitely be checking it out.

…maybe. The plot really does hold it back from being an all-time classic, I think. It has a lot more in common with Jurassic Park than the Matrix

Trailers for my showing were Toy Story 3, the old Alice in Wonderland trailer, Shrek 4 and this really fucking horrible looking movie called Piranhas 3D

boring. it was ok, i wouldn’t say it was a bad movie. just the premise has been done, so many times. felt more like the last samurai than dances to me though. just meh. i’m disapointed. expected a lot more especailly since roger ebert gave it such a great review. effects were nice. but to me it felt like it was the last samurai set in the World of Warcraft.

That’s a lot of kid movie trailers for being a pg-13 movie (despite the fact that I like all that is mentioned especially Toy story). Wtf is Piranhas 3D it already sounds stupid lol. Looks like nothing new in the trailers boo  if I get a cool trailer on mine that isn’t posted up I’ll go ahead and post up it up along with what my trailers consisted of.

lol, not really, I just noticed my phone was vibrating and just checked who was calling.

I’ll definitely be watching this. And I have to admit that I was initially confused about Avatar/The Last Airbender a few months back. I wasn’t really following the production info or marketing for either one and assumed it was all one movie. In my head, I thought Aang was going to be protecting the Na?vi lol.

i saw it, in 3D no less. and visually it was phenomenal. not only were the special effects amazing for the most part but the artistic style and creatures were delicious eye candy (if not waaaaaaaay too tie-dye). The fight scenes were grand and triumphant as well

but goddamn did the story suck. beautiful graphics can only take you so far until you realize that this movie is Dances With Wovles + Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire. and a story that generic should never be drawn out for nearly 3 hours. despite all the visuals my friend Albert still fell asleep about 3/4ths through the movie. Not to mention when it came to a couple points in the story that should of been serious or touching, half the theater burst out laughing.

3/5, its not bad but its not good. if you can turn your brain off you’ll enjoy it.

From what I understand the story is basically Ferngully, but you should see it anyway because it’s still pretty sweet.

Where i saw it,they show that gay as hell Lighting thief trailer,Clash of the titans,Alice in wonderland,Some 3d Disney movie and one or two others.

I was hoping for the new iron man trailer, but imma assume thats being saved for Sherlock Holmes.

I saw it in iMax 3D and the trailers I got were:

Hubble iMax 3D (which looks dope as FUCK!)
Shrek 4
How To Tame A Dragon 3D
Alice In Wonderland
Some new Tom Cruise movie where he plays an assassin.

Nah, the movie was Cowboys vs. Indians.
