I’m not even sure I’ve seen other stuff with her in it, but I also loved her in this movie.
Her role in this movie makes her so much hotter.
Yea this was like her only role where she wasn’t a “In your face” bad ass latina. She seemed almost normal
I finally saw this. I… didn’t really like it. Honestly, if Cameon didn’t direct, this movie would’ve sucked the skin off. He’s the only director I could trust to pull off the falling tree scene and the final battle so well. Still, there’s only so much mileage you can pull from 2-dimensional characters carrying a plot that’s been done to death (and done better than this). If I made a ranking of Cameron’s movies, Avatar would place kind of low.
But enough about that. This was my first 3D movie. I wasn’t floored by the effect, but it’s pretty impressive, and can give a blockbuster flick more impact. When movies keep dulling your attention span by doing the same shit over and over year after year, it’s nice to see something happen onscreen that you don’t expect.
The 3D glasses are too dark though. Can’t the screen in 3D movies get calibrated (brightened) so it’s the same picture as the 2D version? Also, I went into a packed theater, and the only seats left were a little bit away from the center rows. The 3D had a crappy warping effect whenever the screen pans horizontally. If the 3D gimmick takes off, the seats in theaters need to get rearranged so nobody’s caught out of the prime viewing angle… or at least sell cheaper tickets for the corner seats (yeah, right).
i see you
I think thats more to do with your cinema not the movie, but yeh the standard 3D glasses that they give out for free are really dark. Go watch it in IMAX 100x better.
It’s amazing how assholish the human veep and general were…but i’ve met people just like them in real life. You’d think somebody outside of Grace’s research team besides little miss red-shirt would have objected.
I liked the scene right after she breaks Sully&co out of the brig, she’s running down the hallway in her tanktop, and the camera gets a low upward shot of her from the front…
=)
The film certainly stretches credibility, since all of the human beings are assholes except for far, far less than 1%. It would have been easier to buy had you shown what a wasteland Earth had become.
Ughh you dirty prick.
I have to now go bleach my retinas and purify myself in cleansing flames.
When finding a true IMAX theater is a chore for most people, and movie houses are building halfass ‘IMAX’ theaters with cropped aspect ratio, I hope the defense against not liking a movie doesn’t come to ‘oh well of course you didn’t like the movie, you didn’t see it in super 3D 120Hz digital IMAX!’ Not saying you did that, but I can see that happening when somebody says Transformers 3-D was dogcrap.
You know what? Anecdotally speaking, I really don’t find it hard to believe that a bunch of obtuse dbags are working in the same room toward the same goal. I totally believe that it’s happening somewhere right now, regardless of it being the exception to the rule. That isn’t an excuse for all the characters in the movie being completely forgettable.
I just mean I was trying to get some friends to watch this shit with me, and they’re convinced this was a children’s movie (and it kind of is… but in the same way any PG-13 Summer movie is. It’s not a ‘Disney’ flick, even though you could get that impression from the trailers and TV spots)
PS. It wasn’t mentioned in this thread, but I saw a featurette that explained why the human military technology was basically advanced 20th century tech. The magnetic field on Pandora would disrupt a lot of the cutting-edge tech found on Earth, so they had to settle for something more rugged and ‘primitive’ like gas-powered artillery. That’s one convenient excuse why they couldn’t use like a satellite laser or something, and wipe that moon/planet of any trace of life before they touched down.
Michelle Rod’s character reminded me of that one chick who self sacraficed in the vents in Aliens. I wonder if Cameron chose her to be a sort of spiritual sucessor to that character considering that he considered Vicks from Aliens to be the general.
OC
99% of the humans there are being paid massive amounts of money to suppress the Na’vi. It’s really not that hard to believe that a bunch of jar heads paid shit loads of money to shoot and blow shit up are going to be complete ass holes. The only people there who aren’t there for the mineral that makes them as loads of money are the biologists.
Vasquez man. Exactly who I was referring to with my original post about Michele. Vasquez was fucking awesome.
I’ve even said it on this forum: if there’s a remake of Aliens, MR should get the part of Vasquez. No tryouts, just GIVE her that shit.
I love her line in that scene. “That’s right. YOU know what this is.” I would’ve died laughing if her next line was “Now run dat shit!!”
Yeah Rodriguez’s character didn’t have anything near the memorable quotes Vasquez had… but hey, she looked the part.
No she didn’t have as many sadly but she was still cool. It’s hard to top Vasquez though.
rodriguez’s character was a lot more likeable in this. she came across as nicer, more caring, relateable. not ‘trying too hard’ to be that tough grrl which I think vasquez did better anyway
She dies in a lot of shit she’s in.
I still marvel at the fact that Vasquez was really a jewish woman Cameron painted brown. Vasquez was a tough grrrl done right though.
R.I.P.
