Hah. I was going to bring this up. Her name is Jenette Goldstein and i would like to think that she got a tan for the role rather than painted brown.
That still doesn’t diminish her performance as Sci-Fi’s biggest female bad ass.
She also played John Conner’s foster mother in Terminator 2.
not to mention if you go to Pandora, you don’t get back to earth for minimum 18 years… 6 years travel each way, 6 years on Pandora. I don’t see a normal, well adjusted person making that trip…
I just saw it the first time yesterday. I’m going to try and see it at least one or two more times. I loved it for reasons that have been said a bunch of times in this thread already.
IMax 3D is great. I was very nervous going in since I had to wear my glasses but the 3D Imax glasses were nice and clear (not dark at all) and they fit in front of my glasses without any problem.
I am thankful that there is finally a 3D movie instead of just a 2D movie with 3D special effects.
[details=Spoiler] So when Sully and Bluetits got down to business… how did Sully know what to do? Are we just to assume its the same process?
The way he took control of the red flying omg its one of those things… whats up with that too? Hey ive got an idea none of the blue people have ever ever ever who have lived here their entires lives has thought of, ill go above it - then to insult more, its an offscreen capture?
People who can transfer peoples entire being from one physical body to another cant help heal a bullet wound? I mean okay, ill take for granted that the atmosphere affected the wound somehow, but still
So they destroyed the tree for the purpose of getting awesometanium, but… there wasn’t much effort put towards getting it after they cut down the tree, even though Sully had time enough to fly to alllll the other clans and get them together, and the humans only noticing this gathering fairly late into that process
she WAS teaching him everything about their people and their culture. It’s not unreasonable he find out how to get busy.
their people feared the epic mount so i can only assume their main thoughts about it were “if you see it run” much like Jake’s first encounter with it. of course this is just speculation but with regards to it being off screen; we’ve already seen him struggle with his first flier, do we really need to see the same thing again?
you expect them to be able to repair a wound they have no experience repairing on a species they have no medical experience treating?
have you ever seen construction projects on earth move any quicker than a snail’s pace? i would assume that the MASSIVE excavating equipment we saw in the beginning takes a while to move. also to me it seemed like Jake rallied the other tribes pretty quickly. IIRC they were telling Mr. Military that their numbers had been growing substantially every day and were starting to get worried about a counter attack. [/details]
Well, remember that with the smaller blue flying things, it’s not like just ANY person will do. Like Tsutey said, if it’s the one for you, it’ll try to kill you basically. In other words, other Na’vi probably HAVE tried aside from those 5 in history, but all the rest failed to be able to connect.
How Jake caught the dragon, when I watched the movie the second time I thought it was bullshit. Jake makes it out to be so simple it actually found it quite disrespectful towards the Na’vi, it would have been much better (though slightly clichd) if he referred to a past war scenario that required the same tactic. Its only logical that Jake become advisor because of his military knowledge but for some reason Cameron relegates Tsu’tey to a simple extra, making Jake chief. This section of the movie definately felt too rushed.
Tsu’tey
[details=Spoiler]When Tsu’tey dies, I immediately thought back to the Colonels big speech at the begining of the movie, where he tells everyone that the Na’vi bones are made from naturally occuring fibreglass and extremely hard to kill. Tsu’tey’s death didn’t do him justice, he takes apart 4 or 5 mercs swinging his bow then gets pwned by this one merc that some how dodges pointblank range. I was expecting him to do die more heroically or not die at all.
So Jake despite only being on the planet for 6 months manages to become the badest Na’vi ever seen since Neytiri’s great great granfather.

Regarding Na’vi sex, whats the point of them wearing thongs/skirts if the sexual organ is within their hair???
Yeah the Navi got picked off a lot easier than I expected. When I saw a trailer that showed Jake blocking a head-on strike from the AMP, I was like holy shit, fighting a Navi in an AMP is gonna be like Ripley in that construction suit thing against the queen alien… Avatar’s final battle is gonna be freakin epic. But a couple of bullets was enough to take the Navi out. Damn, I really wanted to like this movie but ehh.
