James Cameron's Avatar (Dec. 18th)

jesus christ people it wasnt the fucking military!

there is no military in this movie!

this movie isn’t anti-military, the hero is ex-marine!

I think maybe you just have bad eyes, or some eye problem? Because I was off to the side and could see all around the screen and this was the best 3-D I have ever seen in my life. Perhaps other theater aesthetics contributed to your problem.

Worthington was great, Ribisi was exactly what he should be: slimy, spineless, ferret-like, a great character who wasn’t supposed to take center-stage at any point. Weaver was great too, giving us a tough scientist on one hand coupe with schoolteacher/mother instincts to her subjects.

This is a giant wtf. What you just described is a POSITIVE. The reason you didn’t think Jake’s Avatar looked as similar is because you are so much more familiar with Weaver’s face than Worthington’s, as this is only his second film. Weaver we have been living with for decades and it is a testament to Cameron’s special fx that he was able to create an Avatar with so many reference point to Weaver.

Because as a whole, we are. As a race, it’s conquer or be conquered.

again the female navi (lead) star trek chick was tops

Humans would never attempt to befriend, trick and kill a people out of there land for there personal gain. I mean come on, thats just not some we as humans would do…

“I pledge allegiance to the…”

dont know where you’ve been for all of recorded human history but you might want to take a look at it…

Figures you guys would soak up that “humans/americans do nothing but rape and pillage for personal gain” stuff.

Sigh.

way to bring the facts and thought-provoking discussion.

Uh huh.

And that was just on one page.

For most people I’m guessing this was simply an entertaining movie, but I know a lot of the self-hating crowd (including Cameron himself) were jizzing on the underlying message.

But whatevs.

You still haven’t said anything worth reading Stud. It has nothing to do with self hating and more to do with not being blind to the obvious.

Of course I haven’t. Most people in here think this movie is the best thing since Godfather. There is no “valid” criticism to most of you.

Movie was good even though I did not see it in 3-D. IMO, Sherlocks was better, but that’s just IMO

so i take it you’ve been living under a rock.

I never in a million years would compare this movie to Godfather.
I really liked Avatar and it was enjoyable to watch, but Godfather is just on another level.

Absolutely no one in here has made that distinction at all. Your just making assumptions like an ass instead of backing up anything you have to say with anything of worth or merit.

apples and oranges

wow it’s like im in a time warp circa 2000-2008

you hate america! you hate the troops! /beck /oreilly /blowhards

there was no “subtext” in this movie.

they beat you over the head with it repeatedly so even the most intellectually limited of film goers can understand the “point” it’s trying to make.

 god you’re dumb.

i dont think anyone has compared this to anything besides:
dances with wolves x 100
last samurai
ferngully
shit

where you got godfather from is beyond me. i wouldn’t even compare this to a tarentino movie. notice how nobody is harping on about the films incredibly deep and complex message and branching off on subtopics of symbolism and meaning?

Plot of this movie was almost non-existant. Anyone who’s seen a Disney movie can tell what the movie’s about. The only good character was Colonel Duke Nukem cause he was the only one who didn’t mail in his part. Only cool thing about it was the CG and how the PMC’s (NOT ACTUAL MILITARY) were pretty much Terrans from SC ie. they had goliaths and firebats.

EDIT: I thought the plot was jacked from Pocahontas, but w/e

Was more impressed with this movie technically as opposed to plot (I mean, you can predict the way the story goes within the first 5 minutes) but it was still a great movie.

Chick from Star Trek did the best job, IMO.
