Let’s think back on the only movies comparable to scope to this… Lord of the Rings, almost ten years old. Star Wars, thirty years old… still talking about both. Avatar is here to stay.
and IMO Hurt Locker is not even a quarter as entertaining as Avatar. I didn’t think that movie was very good at all.
Hurt Locker > Avatar (imo).
But they are two very different films and that’s like comparing apples to oranges. Yes they are both fruits but they taste and look completely different.
As long as The Hurt Locker gets best actor OR best picture at the oscars this year I’m happy.
HL wont get anything. sorry pal.

I will remain hopeful that it wins something big.
But back to Avatar.
female navi actor…“black chick from star trek”>hurt
anybody who compares Avatar to Dances with Wolves is brainless and should stop watching films immediately.
Great Movie! Go see in Imax for the ultimate experience. Kind of want to see it in regular movie theater to see how different the two are
To be fair, Cameron said it as well…
Tell James Cameron to stop making movies immediately.
You can’t be serious… =/
i dont get it.
Ya, I know! Dances with Wolves didn’t even have 3D animation or Blue Skinned Aliens
Oh wait…
Sucks how much of the full story had to be taken out for the interest of time and marketing. I guess it was necessary in the long run. The sequels can be used for backstory.
If you draw a compairison to Dances with wolf’s(or Last of the Mohicans seems more accurate) then you have fucking won already as both the afformentioned films were fantastic.
Not EVERYTHING with Costner was fucking Waterworld or the Postman.
…but I liked Waterworld
oh kai just the idea of turning piss to drinking water was kinda cool…

I thought the story was mediocre at worst, great at best. The visuals were utterly stunning and at times sent shivers up my spine. This sounds like a stupid thing to say, but I thought the “physics” of the world were flawless; the way the varied creatures moved about, the clang of the rhinos crashing into the machines. It all felt completely believable and drew me in. I think any movie that can not only keep our attention but entertain (most of, anyways) us for over 2 and a half hours is worthy of praise. It’s an accessible, enjoyable but predictable experience.
Pretty good read.
Ive always been a fan of Camerons directing style. Just simple and straight foward with the goal of taking you along for the ride.
Did you guys see Aliens and complain that the story was too predictable? “Aliens? what? THATS IT?” fuck outta here. It about aliens trying to murder you and implant babies in your gut. Whats the point of some ridiculous twist.
I believe it’s the same deal with avatar.
This is an issue that was debated about the star wars movies pretty heavily as well. Simplicity vs unnecessary story. People complained that the unnecessary character and political backstory ruined the last 3 movies for casual audiences. That they lost the simple-natured adventure story that sucked you into the battle.
But, yeah. Cameron has it right.
Nah bro it’s that in the"Information" age everything thinks their opnion matters, and it doesnt not by a long shot.
Even the haters paid to see it,some more then once,it’s now just a matter of nitpicking and if your looking for flaws you will find them.
Simply put Avatar was Camerons Godfather,an Opus du film.
Something once seen will forever change all movies from here on out.
avatar was dope. period.
Just finished the movie myself and I got exactly what I was expecting from it.
The story is predictable and cliched but I wasn’t expecting anything ground breaking from it. I think everyone should have seen everything coming from a mile away just from the basic premise of the storyline. Execution is always key and I think Avatar did a tremendous job in execution.
Visual effects were just as mind blowing as it was hyped up to be. The facial expressions were spot on identical to the actors but that was due to the new motion capture that Cameron’s team was using and it adds a whole lot of depth to the animation. It makes for a believable performance from the CG characters and doesn’t pull you out.
The one thing that bothers me is that this movie won’t be as good on Blu-Ray without the 3D effects. This is the first movie where I was truly blown away by the effective use of 3D. Most 3D movies use 3D for cheap gimmicks but Avatar uses it in such a subtle manner that it helps immerse you into the world. I really wanted to swat the bugs or part the plants.
