the problem with avatar storywise wasn’t that is wasn’t good, just not strong.
it is similar to something like dances with wolves but dances with wolves is absolutely brilliant and not able to be bettered and avatar was ‘ok’.
good story films (better than avatar)
last of the mohicans
dances with wolves
once upon a time in america
lord of the rings
silence of the lambs
ok story films (about as good as avatar)
some of the harry potter films
district 9
red dragon
seriously. i know people will dig through gold to find a spec of shit, but the hate for this movie seems comical, and hating just to solidify your status as a hater is called being a tool.:nono:
you’re allowed to not like this movie for no reason, but if you have a reason don’t expect it to be logical to everyone else.
also after the TF movies i think people have learned to not be offended when someone likes something they hate or vice-versa.
i lold
how you gonna use a movie that has a #2 after the title and claim it as the beacon of originality? just curious.
Saw it in IMAX 3-D last night. Best movie I’ve seen in 2009 easy!
When Reuben Langdon’s name showed up in the credits I yelled out “DANTE!” I don’t think anyone got what I was talking about. I even had to explain to my best friend. Oh well.
People always get offended, I get the same when I say I don’t think much of star wars always liked star trek.
What TF showed us is that, CGI movies still make a truck load more money than movies with scripts, if you throw enough money into hyping something up, even a pile of poo can make you ridicously rich. I seriously doubt TF would be as big as it was if Speilberg’s name wasn’t attached to it. Unlike Cameron, nobody watches Michael Bay’s movies for Michael Bay, they watch it for the big names, eg Will Smith, Bruce Willis, Nicolas Cage, Ewan McGregor. Cameron could have gone with complete unknowns and Avatar would still of kicked ass.
Yeah Reuben Langdon did motion capture for Avatar.
For anyone who still doesn’t know what I’m talking about lol - Reuben Langdon’s plays Dante, motion capture and voice in Devil May Cry 3 & 4 (plus he looks just like Dante in 3 & 4 in real life), Dante’s voice in the English dub of the Devil May Cry anime, Ken’s English voice in Street Fighter IV and the English dub of the ‘SF4 The Ties That Bind’ anime movie. He also did motion capture for Chris Redfield in Resident Evil Code Veronica and RE5 but not his voice. He’s doing motion capture for Lost Planet 2 also. Boy that’s a lot to type out…
See, you were semi-not-really watching a Capcom related movie (again not really) when you saw Avatar and you didn’t even know it! Well that’s what I’m telling myself so I can skip the next Hollywood Resident Evil flick.
I already know this was aimed towards me which clearly tells me you don’t know shit about me so you can stop pretending you do. Funny how some people are trying to call me stupid for not liking the movie yet I have said nothing negative about anyone who liked the movie. So who is the real tool.:nono:
yeah i don’t know you, never claimed to. just stating what i feel to be true.
i never called you stupid, but when you say shit like “It was pretty much the Uber Leftist guide to being a tree hugger.” i have to assume you’re either trolling or putting on an act.
ps. does anyone know what the deal is with these “3D compatible” blurays? i have coraline on blu and it comes with a 3d version where you strap on glasses and its in a shitty version of 3d. how is the avatar movie any different from this? and i heard something about 3d compatible TVs, am i going to have to buy ANOTHER fucking thousand dollar TV when this 3D business starts really taking off?
We were cracking jokes all through the movie calling the Big Tree “The Tree of Might” and talking about how much better the planet’s animals were than ours.
Saw it in 3-D and thought it was nice. The movie was good and the graphics were nice. Thought it’s a shame that the trailer sort’ve spoiled most of the plot, while predictability took over the rest, but I kinda saw that coming from a distance. Overall I do see potential for a sequel, but for a 500 million dollar movie I really think they should spend a little bit more on the writers at least.
The movie dialog was a yawn and almost put me to sleep. If they were trying to make jokes, a 10 year old could do better, and when they were trying to make it dramatic it turned into cliche. Overall I give the movie 3 out of 5 stars in comparison to the rest of the movies out in theaters, but still I thought 500 mil could do more.
This movie sucked bad. It’s just depressing to see that so many people liked it (both in this thread and IRL). I guess eye candy is all people care about anymore, not a good or interesting plot. They could’ve called this movie Garbage… in 3D! and people would still love it.
I liked this movie better when it was called Fern Gully and I was 8.
When you peel away the special effects you get some shitty cross between “Dances With Wolves” and “Fern Gully”
It was okay. It was an entertaining movie, but in 10 years nobody is going to fucking care about this movie. The Hurt Locker was a much better movie than this was.
Yeah, a lot of the time, I felt like I was watching someone play a Bioware game, especially the way all the character expositions were done. With the way the ‘General’, ‘Scientist’ and ‘CEO’ archetypes were introduced, it felt that the game/movie was telling me “This is this dude’s motivation and you can choose a certain plot path by selecting the right dialogue options with him!”
But yeah, because of this, I just couldn’t ‘like’ the movie (although everyone I watched it with loved it, and I watched it with some really critical people). It just felt like the movie was made with the intention of pandering to the “gamer demographic” and the feeling of being targeted as a demographic just reduced my enjoyment of the movie immensely.
