James Cameron's Avatar (Dec. 18th)

Kill bill 3 - 3d? A halo movie in 3d? cant wait to see the tbags

i guess i can see how its like the last samurai but the stories had completely different points to them.

also im not even sure that the last samurai means its a white dude as much as the people themselves as samurai is plural. the last of their kind.

im outi

How did typing that out not fill you with such shame and loathing that you were forced to kill yourself?

I don’t think that any Tarantino movie ever would be greatly improved by 3D.

lol, I was thinking the same kind of thing. I mean, I played a bit of WoW, but I never felt like any of the realms or locations in WoW were places I could possibly visit.

C’mon, tell me you wouldn’t want to see the Gimp from Pulp Fiction in 3d? Or Jules’ hair, so you can almost feel the grease dripping off it?

Oren Ishii’s backstory in AV 3D would be nice as hell! Crazy 88 fight too.

I agree with what you’re saying and I truly feel like this could have been 2 separate films. They crammed a LOT of stuff into 2.5 hours and because of this didn’t truly have time to give background details.

What actually happened to Earth?
How did Sigourney Weaver become so engrossed in the Avatar process?
What was the Unobtainium being used for that makes it so valuable?
How was Pandora found?
What were the previous wars like with the natives?

Don’t get me wrong, the movie was a visual masterpiece, but I would have loved explanations for a lot of stuff. It felt as if it was just one of those “this is the way things are, nevermind how they got this way” scenarios. I’m impressed that the movie was able to be packaged together the way it was without filler scenes though.

Those answers really aren’t to hard to figure out and a focus on those weren’t really necessary and wouldn’t have made a better story just a longer one.

earth for them i assume is similar to earth now with less green.
She’s a scientist nuff said really
It could have been used for everything from energy to jewelry but its really not important for this movie.
Prob just randomly, they do have space ships.
Prob just skirmish here and there.*

again, this is exactly why i didn’t find this movie so enticing. There was no new ground for me to tread by watching Avatar. It simply looked amazing.

I loved this movie. It was amazing. Story was good and well told, was a blast to watch and the characters where cool.

It might just be my opinion, but I think part of what made those movies is that they were movies. The 3d part was pulled off very well in this movie, but it costs a shit load more to make for what is ultimately a gimmick in some aspects. It doesn’t add that much, it’s basically saying “OMG MORE DEPTH PERCEPTION”, like somehow the movie is going to be something it wasn’t before for a mere millions of extra dollars in movie budget.

In this film, it was pulled off beautifully. Does EVERY movie benefit from being thrown through 5 million computers to make something that doesn’t even feel like a movie anymore? I don’t think so.

I like basic special effects. I like actors being able to be seen for what they are rather than rendered again by computer. Use actual costumes, etc. Computer graphics have their place when done REAAAALLLY well (see: Avatar) and when used to compliment an otherwise exceedingly difficult special effect. Or perhaps for a background that you couldn’t really make as realistically as before.

Again, just my opinion. I could well be in the minority on this in hoping that my favorite movies remain untouched.

i just hope in the sequel the humans are after all the chaos emeralds that make those islands float.

in all seriousness, the movie was awesome. great visuals, tolerable story and one of the most badass villains ever

That’s just the thing, you say the answers aren’t hard to figure out and then you follow that up with “I assume”, “could have been”, and “probably”. I think that the previous wars with the natives were important because that allowed them to analyze their bodies and retrieve DNA to create the Avatars.

They had detailed information about their skeletal structure, so they had to have captured one or taken corpses back with them, right? Also, what were the specifics of the fallout between Sigourney Weaver’s character and the natives that lead to her having to close down her school?

This type of information is not filler IMO and could have helped to flesh out the story.

i still don’t understand. do you not like any movies?

almost all movies are just watching the same thing through a different lens. sometimes the lens is dirty and the movie sucks. this time i felt they did an excellent job of portraying a common story everyone is familiar with in a totally unseen way.

on a side note: after all the work that obviously went into creating the world of Pandora, i really hope that the next movie(s) have less humans in them. I would personally love to see a backlash of Eywa on the world, with creatures going crazy on the Na’vi and super-natural disasters. (since it helped them get rid of the humans maybe a ying would come with a yang. ya know, nothing for free.)[/details]

oh I’m sure these mega-conglomerates won’t take this incident sitting down, especially with what’s at stake. So I doubt it, unless there’s a special teaser inbetween the next saga.

I was speaking under hypotheticals, I’m amused at the idea because I know that it will never happen. (unless Kill Bill vol.3 has…)

Yeah, I was being sarcastic. 3d is not something EVERY film needs.

It’s true, I like hardly any movies. 90% of what I see I label as crap because I’m very critical. Obviously all movies borrow from one another, but it’s a matter of quantity. If I watch something like Avatar that besides the concept of Avatars has NOTHING whatsoever fresh and original from my point of view, then I won’t take to it very much. But if I watch something like Crank 2 (my favorite movie this year) that is absolutely ridiculous, ludicrous, crude, loud, funny, in all the right ways, by showing the exploits of an adrenaline-junkie Jason Statham in a very stylized, raucous format, without making me think “This is Transporter” or “This is Tarantino” then I will love it. Now there’s no point in anybody telling me “I didn’t like Crank 2” but this is simply my reasoning for not enjoying the plot points of Avatar. If someone claims that Crank 2 is wholly unoriginal and not stylistic, then show me movies it borrows from.

whoa motion sickness city! its not as bad as FPS games. I had a mild headace and a >>:bgrin: on my face. imax 3d seemed slightly messed up at times. I am sure the “digital real 3d” looks better because of smaller screen. either way great movie. not best movie ever but best 3d/cgi/visual effects movie ever. excellent music too. story is rather predictable as everyone mentioned earlier but its all good. would see again in 3d of course.
