Simply put, I needed to see this movie. The world needs to see this movie. And I hope it changes how movies are done from this day forward (until the next big thing). Plus it’ll keep our asses in the theaters for a little while longer at least.
PS. Can’t wait until the Pandora encyclopedia is published. It’s like being a kid again when you first discovered south-of-the-equator animals and prehistoric reptiles.
I’m still trying to decide how I want to see Dances With Smurfs yet. Do I just want to bite the bullet and go see it any old place or do I want to hold out for IMAX 3D?
Anyone else thought that if the avatar died your human body would die? DAMN MATRIX TRILOGY!
Colonel
[details=Spoiler]The colonel was definately the biggest badass, when he first jumps into the mech and starts throwing jabs and hooks I knew we were going to see some 1 on 1 combat. The fight did not disappoint.
The part where he runs outside holding his breath starts fireing at the chopper, leaving everyone in the building scrabbling for oxygen masks was too funny.[/details]
the whole point of good literary is to pull you into the world by triggering certain points in your brain and playing around with it
this film making technique did this without having to fuck around with our perception of the characters, there was no playing around with it. now if that’s possible then the future of films will feel very real.
im surprised so many people actually believe that literary story telling is the depth of the human cognitive, our literal capabilities have been distorted and come to a halt because of it’s current form
My post wasn’t really aimed at you. I’ve grown extremely annoyed because EVERY reviewer says it - like they are looking for something negative to say. Even in this thread, people who have liked it are saying it. OK fine…were folks bitching like that with Last samurai? No just that (spoiler) the last samurai is a white guy. Like I said, originality just doesn’t exist anymore, its something to get over. And ya know what, original movies dont’ get the push/credit they deserve anyway. My favorite movie and first DVD (before I even had a player) was “The Heist” feat Gene Hackman. Its one of those movies you have to watch like 4+ times because you always miss something, and finding something you missed lets you onto something you missed before, etc etc. But I enjoyed this movie almsot just as much and wil lwatch it multiple times because I liked the journey so much.
You don’t have to like the movie or modern movies, not saying you do, again that wasn’t aimed at you (it was a trigger to the post admittedly), but people’s logic for not liking it is out of wack. If you dont’ like it you don’t like it, but dont say its because the storyline is unoriginal when 99.82345 of whats out falls into that category. Hell Shakespeare’s plays weren’t even original.
i disagree unreal. I personally didn’t like it cuz i felt i had been to pandora via world of warcraft. And the story was the last samurai to me. so i’m watching something that has great graphics, but it felt redundant and to straight forward. The action scenes, while well done, offered no new take or extremely well done choreography. Like i accept it is a good movie, and one that succeeded in fulfilling the budget it was given. But really, it wasn’t an instant classic.
The score was bland. The scenery again, i have to bring up ashenvale from world of warcraft. or any of the outland worlds with the floating stuff. Like i wanted to love the movie. Just couldn’t. shrug
what would i do to make it better? I have no suggestions as i see very little flaws in it OTHER than it’s unoriginal and just done to death. I was bored.
I just can’t see how someone could really be moved by there plight. I felt more emotional attachment with the stories that did this alrdy. i dunno shrug
My main problem with the movie had to do with how one-dimensional the characters were. Every supporting character in the movie had little to no development and were really just there as excuses to keep the story going. Got the overzealous military commander? Yep. Got a couple of people who will do ANYTHING in the name of science and morality? Yep. Got the financial giant who will do anything in the name of the almighty dollar? Yep.
The main two characters, while they did a little bit of development, did everything in the most predictable way possible. Man with wheelchair finds way to run, gets used to it. Girl trusts boy, finds out he kept a secret from her, eventually forgives him. Etc. etc. etc.
I’m a dialog/character whore. The visuals are absolutely top-notch, and so are the action scenes, but it almost felt like they could’ve just left that in there and we’d pretty much have figured out the story anyways.
At the end of the day, I felt like I watched an hour and a half movie in twice the amount of time.
Me and a friend was talking about that yesterday. Hollywood really needs guys like Cameron, Del Toro, Jackson, etc who will contunie to believe in movie magic, and fill their films with giant burts of imagination. In this creative wasteland of remakes, crappy licensed movies, and Twilight, I’m so glad we still get films like this to remind me why I still sit in a big dark room with a bunch of strangers for 7 bucks.
But your not really disagreeing with my point. You don’t like it…ugh thats fine, not calling you crazy or anything . My complaint really stems from people shooting it down because of the base plot. What big budget movie in the past ten years was actually original? Seriously. Last Samurai while being mentioned like 20 times in this thread alone wasn’t even original when it came out. I liked the character development no matter how obvious it was, because hell, what movie isn’t predictable? Last one I saw like that was The Heist, outside of that, I can watch a movie and within the first 20 minutes or so, I’ve figured out the last half of it minus some details.
My point in short, if you don’t like it cause you don’t like the characters, acting, yadda yadda - thats fine by me, but the originality aspect is weak sauce and honestly purely an excuse.
