Yeah I just watched it, good shit. I’ll be waiting for your tutorial on better dmging combos. Hopefully it’s not too assist dependent which would mean only certain teams are capable of it.

As far as I can put it together so far, it’ll be three part, or the three effective ways I see to up damage with Dante. One, is fleshing out the Grapple Reset a little more. It’s pretty gdlk. Two, is High Impact starters. This, I’m afraid, will be pretty assist-dependent. I’ll do what I can to incorporate a variety of assists, but at the end of the day, to get the best damage out of Dante, I believe it’s gonna come down to using Assists to chain as many high-damage attacks you can into the opener. And three, would be charge shot setups. That’s probably what I’m weakest on, so I’ll have to do a little work on it myself. Didn’t even put one in that combo, even though one would have fit after the Beehive.

edit: Also, I think Volcano -> jS is the new Bold Cancel, the new “thing to learn”. It’s easier in ultimate than it was in Vanilla(I’m 99% sure the frames it takes to Jump went down in Ultimate), and puts a good deal more pain into his starters.

i really appreciate what you’re doing. seeing as i play zero before dante, i don’t need those meter building combos i just need the goddamn damage.

The sentinel drone assist gives you an extra ground bounce for some reason with skydance. I use that assist with Dante too. :slight_smile:

I thought it was because the last hit of Sky Dance resets the groundbounce and then Drones just helps you continue the combo (since the last hit usually knocks them too far away)?

Sky Dance’s third hit and on until the final hit forces a ground bounce (Resets the ground bounce count, whatever). That ground bounce is used if the last hit of Sky Dance doesn’t connect, thats what causes the really long ground bounce and then hard knockdown state. If the last hit of Sky Dance connects, it doesn’t actually use the ground bounce it forced from its earlier hits, which is why there can be another ground bounce later (from beehive, in this case).

You could do it in Vanilla as well but because of Beehive being just a second :m:, it’s a bit harder

EDIT: I can do two and call that good haha. But I can’t seem to do it fast enough as Strider finishes before Dante finishes his second hammer.

So, I was working to try and get the grapple reset using Vergil’s Rapid slash assist after a combo, and it isn’t really working for me. Mostly just posting to see if it’s my timing or if it really just isn’t possible after the combo, because it works just fine if I start with just a J.:s:.

Combo I was starting with: :m:,:h:,:f:+:h:(Stinger) xx :s:+:atk:(Bold Move) xx :dp::m: (Volcano), J.:h: xx J.:qcf::m: (Air Play), J.:h:, :h:, :s:, :h: (Clay Pigeon), :s: (Prop Shredder) xx :d::d::u::s: (Super Jump Canceled Air Trick), J.:qcf::l::l: (Hammer), Vergil Assist, :df::h::h: (Cold Shower)…

After Cold Shower I’ve tried just waiting a bit then doing Grapple, and I’ve tried doing Stinger xx Grapple neither of which I’ve success with. Tried to OTG with Volcano, Twister, Volcano xx Revolver none of which worked. Think I’m going to try crystal and Million Carats now and see how that goes, all though I don’t see it being much better.

its always been like this, and why i try to avoid starters with many hits (ie medium hits, prop shredder, early otgs, etc) unless im going for oki with lvl 1 super. the problem with this is that it is pretty assist dependent on how you can increase your damage with this kind of route and it still feels about vanilla level difficulty for something like volcano j.S

a common misconception is that dante’s damage is horrible. it is half true - dante’s damage off optimal starters (on ground, near corner, j.S, etc) still good, one of the reasons being mashable hyper. its just that off of suboptimal starters where its scaled to hell from the start (assist, throws, tac, dhc) you’re pretty much fucked lol, whereas in vanilla you still did a good amount of dmg since minimum scaling was not as bad.

Played around with this in training mode.

There’s a noticable difference in the hitstun from the Raw Rapid Slash, and the rapid slash at the end of that combo(I’m using Hammer, call Rapid Slash, Volcano OTG xx Jump Cancel Hysteric). I’m pretty sure it’s not gonna be possible after that combo, to set it up with Rapid Slash. I could be mistaken, but it looks like they pop out too soon/high.

Which methods have you not had success with, when it comes to Stinger xx Hysteric? IMO, there’s two ways to do it…

1.) One fluid command, doing the hysteric ASAP, and then delaying the ~grapple slightly
2.) Two separate motions. Stinger, small delay, and then a “raw” BC Hysteric~ImmediateGrapple.

I never had success with #1. I got so many Jam Sessions, all sorts of obnoxiousness, etc.

With #2, there’s an easy way to practice. Without hitting anyone, do sH xx Bold Move xx Hysteric. If you can do that without leaving the ground, you can do #2. Just comes down to an input roughly along the lines of 2, 3+Atk+S, 6+H. I sort of drumroll LS with one finger, and H with the second. I’ve got about a 90% success rate, probably, if I’m trying to Grapple somebody. But that’s me. Find what works for you.

Hmmm, I’ll have to try method #2. Worst case scenario I give up on trying to get an assist in before the reset, and just do the basic less damaging one. At the same time, I can maybe try to do it with Trish’s Low Voltage assist, somehow.

Low Voltage is distanced based IIRC if you’re tryna do Stinger+Assist into Grapple. Cant remember how well/bad it works

Can somebody explain to me how to Clay Pigeon Launch loop? I always get Prop Shredder every time I try it.

It’s height dependent and if you get prop shredder you’re doing it too early. It’s strict timing.
