Thanks man.
If you’re anything like me, it will be pretty hard to do at first. Especially on pad since you have more “distance” between inputs on the analog. I’m actually really cheap and I do it by pressing down on my analog while pressing up on the d pad then down again + L…problem with this is sometimes i hit the xbox or start button lmaoo…I just learned it the regular way. A good way to start practicing is just do a normal jump, down down L. It’s not as fast but it’s something.
I definitely gonna try that. Thanks for the help
I remember when I found out about the cross-up IOH, it was a complete accident, I just wanted to do a regular IOH. My opponent congratulated me on the left-right, thinking it had been on purpose. I’ve been doing it ever since when I feel I have the chance, it’s awesome.
Do you do it like marvelo or do you have a different to way to do it
The easiest and most consistent way to do instant overhead L with Nova is just the way Marvelo described.
2,8,2 then you plink H+M ~L
But as I was writing this post I thought of the most common way I see me landing crossup Instant Overhead. When I combo a non-taggable H Rocket Punch crumple, you can get that old reset by hitting standing B after the energy javelin comes down. This forces a 50/50 roll for you to guess. If they’re towards the corner, it’s safe to assume they want to roll into you. Wait a split second and chase the roll backwards and do the overhead. It’s a meh mixup at best, but it’s something. You can chase that roll with low M or ADB H as well if you anticipate the forward roll. low M will catch jump back and H is a slower overhead, but you can setup some pretty good pressure if they’re slick and pushblock it.
Yeah. 2, 8, 2 ~ L is probably my go to for instant overheads, but I do h+m ~ L if I’m midscreen especially. The best way to setup the cross-up overhead is to dash after a catapult j.H, and use the momentum of your dash to normal jump over them, then when you’re at the right height/angle, ADD (h+m ~ l). Works awesome. Different assists push the opponents hitbox in different directions so you need to go over setups in training mode. Vajra, Drones, Arrows, and Bolts all set it up pretty nicely.
Also, I do the exact same reset but with Vajra assist. I do something like Nova Slam, call strider, St.S, SJC Energy Javelin, Vajra hits them in the air, Javelin resets them on the ground. Especially if they’re near the corner for some reason, most people tech backwards. Sets up the overhead perfectly if you meaty them.
Eh…somewhat pointless tech i guess…if youre in the corner with level 3 XF Nova, instead of his S javelin S loop, u can do H centurian Rush Javelin H rush etc
EDIT: now that I thought about it, this can be useful if you’re mid screen…Ima test it tmm…got a midterm to study for
I’ll try to run with it. is it 6+H, XF, H Rush …etc?
Can someone please help me figure out how in gods name does this dude cause a hard knockdown after nova’s ball super? i keep getting a soft knockdown that recovers up in the air before modok can OTG. Thanks, guys

Oh that’s easy. The first few hits of Nova’s Super, if you DHC after them cause a hard knockdown. So you have to cancel the DHC early to get the Hard knockdown. You see this a lot in teams that can take advantage of hard tags really well (Frank West is a great example).
Not exactly “combo” tech but if you know how to do Nova’s instant over head (down up down L) this may be good tech for you…If you’re against a fairly experienced opponent that can react to that/sees it coming/basically can block, you can do a fake out with down up down M…the jump M will wiff but the animation still comes out…when that happens, do c.H for basically a full combo. Another variation is if you normal jump and dash down (double tap down) and press M, it will wiff into the c.H. The instant over head version is SO FAST, i think it’s possible people won’t even realize what happened…with the normal jump situation, they may think “OH, time to block high now”
Wow all this juicy info haha, ive been trying 2 figure out how people do the cross up instant overhead for a while now, but i just couldn’t do it out. ill definitely give plinking before the L a try. Also i dunno what i do wrong but sometimes when i go for the instant overhead with down up down my last down input doesn’t seem to work, and my nova ends up just super jumping. Any idea what im doing wrong?
Also what are novas options for fake tac resets? i see ppl like infrit using L,H, L rocket punch right before the flip to catch S mashers, are their any other options?
ohh believe me I KNOW how this feels. Do you play on pad or stick? (just curious)…but the way I learned it was to not put too much emphasis in any of the motions…like try to be fluid…dont mash super hard…also, worry more about the two down inputs…the up input should kind of feel like you’re almost not even hitting it (thats how I think about it). The cross up version is easier because you end with down forward.
I wanna know why in the hell my J.S seems to whiff a good portion of the time when doing my Fly/Unfly H Loop combos…like for instance J.H, St.M, St.H, S, J.H, Fly, J.H, Unfly, J.H, St.H, S, J.H (goes for S and WHIFF!!) Don’t get me wrong I “can” land it and have but I just don’t like how that part seems to whiff on me,is there a timing thing I’m not doing, the J.H in the beginning or too many hits screwing it up or what??Help needed and appreciated
i play on stick. Alright man ill try it out. Wait so for the cross up version i can go down, up, downfoward?? Glad 2 see im not the only 1 that screws it up
MastaSW: You cant bring them down again lol, thats when u “power of the nova force”
You can bring them down again, that combo just really pushes the limit of HSD. So various factors will make the S whiff (maybe you put a jab in somewhere, maybe you do the combo a little slower etc.)
For stability, omit the standing H before the relaunch, just do raw standing S
Oh wow really? I’ve never seen that before
Yea u definitely can,I’ve done it over and over just inconsistently…was frustrated why it wasn’t working all the time. Thanks I’ll take the St.H out before the relaunch then, that’ll be good practice for the new Midscreen BnB’s I’ve been seeing anyways…I’ll give that a try
actually no…take out the stand M.
EDIT: ACTUALLLYY, I do this combo ALL the time and the M doesnt make a difference…when u go up in the air for the j.H, S make sure u dont try it too soon. Give yourself some time to get up there.
