This is how I feel too. As much as I loved this game, the US market doesn’t care if it’s a reboot or not, especially with a non-reboot price tag. I’m sure the KOF series will survive, but there’s no telling how much the scene has been crippled by such a poor launch of XII.
It’s a pretty good game, but I won’t deny the fact that some things need more polish. Here are my minor nitpicks. The special effects such as the fire and electric effects don’t ignite your opponent antymore. The training mode’s combo/damage data almost covers the other side of the screen. Whomever thought that up should be fired. Yeah, I can turn it off, but I wouldn’t be able to see a thing if my opponent is on the side of the screen and I want to do corner specific combos and see my damage/hit inputs. Yeah, I could do it on the other side, but I want to test my execution on both sides.
Other than those 2 minor nitpicks, i think the gameplay is solid. The game is still new, so there might be more things to discover. I do like the new iori a lot.

The board has been growing dramatically and a lot of people are contributing. Ignition is doing their best to forward all our opinions to SNK…
This game is crack, even had some semi-decent online matches. If the patch makes the online good, then I can recommend it to everyone.
It took a bit of getting used to, but I agree, new Iori is nice. He kind of reminds of what sf3 did by creating alex out of a few characters; KoF 12 Iori is like a Freeman and Iori hybrid. Now I just need a super where I walk at you and wait to be hit.
i agree with you. this game lacks the “kof ChARM.” the feel and design that made this series different and great from any other fighter. i guess were just conservative fighters that perfer the old school fighters i guess. i think its just too much change. they can add mechanics and this and that. but please SNK, don’t change EVERYTHING and take away the things that make kof great for 15 years.
This new kof is different.
But it is simple and fun to play at least for me.
Don’t expect kofxi movesets for the moves of the game. They have been simplified.
There really isn’t anything to add that won’t make me come off as a broken record player…but while I was one of the guys to complain about this game intially I really do think SNk is on the right track. The lack of single players intiatives is always a hinderence especially for a franchise as rich in character design and legacy as KOF…but at the end of the day we will be playing the game because ifs a fun and competitive fighter and not so much because it has a good story mode or bonus mode. It is a change from traditional KOF’s but I think it is a solid enough fighter that warrents competitive play…I at least think it is a better fighter then SF4 if I had to say.
I’ve played pretty much every KOF game and i don’t know much about 12, going to pick it up eventually because i don’t like buying games full price anymore but i have a question. Is 12 a watered-down version of the other games?
As for the roster and stuff its not so bad, it has most of my favorites in it so no real problems there.
Maybe a little shingo kick would be nice.
Er not really. 12 feels a bit fresher, and somewhat a “This generation feeling”.
It really does feel like a “Rebirth” of the series.
To me it’s like TBHDR for some reason. But worth the money because I’ve been playing this game non-stop.
And oh yeah, does anyone think that boobs on the Evony ads are fake? Look how discolored the boobs are to her neck… And look at her face. It’s like that picture had 3 layers in it.
Dude…he’s become Honki Ni Natta Ryo. South Town just keeps getting worse, PLUS he’s gearing up to take the mantle of Mr. Karate from Takuma. Dad’s keeping an eye on his ass. I doubt anyone wants to be Akuma: hanging out in the forest, wiping his ass with leaves, fapping while spying on Ryu, and talking to himself all the time (but pretending he’s talking to his brother so he can pretend to still be sane).
:lol::lol::lol:
And I thought Akuma was a badass.
This game is incredibly unbalanced. The top three characters in the character select menu are the top 3 characters IN THE GAME.
I always knew snk had a hard on for kyo and iori, but they put the hermaphrodite that’s a blend of the two on the bandwagon as well.
Poking doesn’t exist. Hop fest 2009. Hop into combo…rinse and repeat. People talk shit about blanka balls, but you haven’t fought a Robert spamming shippu kyakus.
Controls are sloppy. Load screens everywhere. Biggest fighting game disappointment in a long time.
Learn 2 play.
Only thing that disappoints me is loading inbetween character switches and the crappy netcode SNK always has.
Sigh, will be picking it up, but not at full price.
The only one of those 3 that blatantly holds top is Kyo.
Ash has to work, and Iori, don’t get me started.
Yes, poking takes a back seat in this game. Hop fest? Continuous hopping gets punished, especially with b+CD.
Controls aren’t sloppy, the thing is the timing and execution concept is different. You need different buffer techniques now. And yes the load screens are annoying, also the fact that SNK still doesn’t allow you to go back to the main menu after reaching the char select screen.
I have a new complaint. Is it me or does this game have a huge safety factor? In the corner about every BnB is rollable, and if your char is still close it gets pretty uncomfortable, cause they have a few options to punish you or escape.
I think rolling will become a big deal because certain chars roll a huge distance, and they seem hard to punish just on a whim.
Whiffed moves are punished somewhat easily.
I foresee this game becoming an FG heavily based on spacing and zoning.
Has anyone realise how awkward the back+throw animation is???
The character just magically appears on the other side of the opponent…it’s not fluid at all…
As for all the other stuff i hope they release a ton of dlc
Haha, I hear that.
I absolutely love b+CD, really makes me and my opponent become more inclined to mix up our timing.
Also, is this game seriously $60 in the US, that’s the same as SFIV when it was released, right?
Because here in Australia, the game is AU$30 cheaper than SFIV on release, it’s a mere AU$90.
This is… This is almost insane!
I’m getting tears in my eyes.
THANK YOU SNK, GODDAMN, IT’S STILL AU$20 MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE US VERSION, BUT STILL, I LOVE YOU.
I’m not kidding here, every game released in this country is AU$100-120, and AU$100 is US$82, I can’t believe how ecstatic I am over this price.
Shit, really?
At EBgames or JB Hifi? Because I know that JB Hifi usually price stuff at least $20 cheaper than EB.
I’m still not sure if I really want this. Played at the arcade for quite a bit and it’s pretty great even though it doesn’t have most of my mains, but the lack of features and apparently sucky online isn’t really selling the game to me.
I pre-ordered from my local GAME store.
Though 2 days later I found out on their website they were selling it at a special of $80
