I’ve looked around quite a few places and a lot of people have been saying that XII is just not a good game. Anyone here able to shed some light on this?
I guess first I’ll give you my background, I’ve really only started competitively playing fighting games since TvC came out. I play that, SF4, and BB quite a bit and I like all of them. Is this game that much worse?
I don’t care about the lack of single player options or anything like that. This is a fighting game, I’m gonna play vs. mode. So I’m just asking about the core fighting mechanics and things like that.
Theres always been 2 versions of Kyo post KOF95. They just decidec to go with the 94 version as a throw back since KOF12 is a series re-boot. New engine and just like 94 it will grow.
Lies. They had it GOLD with KOF XI, you can’t tell me they did not. Then they go and do this shit. They did not need to take all the new tools away from the characters. In turn, they could of just made new characters, easy characters to easy new people into KOF instead of doing this shit. This KOF is so easy mode, just like SF4, this KOF was made for new people, not the old fans. SNK is wrong for this shit.
… I wouldn’t call KOFXI gold. It just had a good sized roster and nice character designs. Gold would be if they also had a more balanced roster so we don’t constantly see the same old Kula, Gato, xxx team. If you’re happy with KOFXI being GOLD, then there’s no reason for you to be mad at KOFXII. Just keep playing KOFXI then.
Just like SNK usually does, they are introducing new ideas into the KOF universe. But just like they always do, the original concept isn’t always so great compared to later installments.
For example 94-95, 96-98, 99-01, 03-XI.
They are heading in a good direction, but the game is still incomplete, and we are missing:
More dynamic chars added (biggest argument)
More Stages (minor inconvenience)
Moves (somewhat big argument, like how there no difference between far and close moves, certain chars lost a lot like Clark and Duo Lon) I don’t see those two’s nerfs as premeditated, I just don’t think they completely finished them.
Next argument is the Clash and Counter system. Though it equals a new sense of awareness that isn’t really present in many FG’s, it feels loose to the point where you run into constant counters or clashes. Where the counters equal free combos, and clashes annoyingly destroy the priority system.
Last argument is the gameplay mechanics. Seriously, I’ve never seen a KOF where there isn’t too much wrong in spamming lights and rolls. Though after pros understand the game such things will be punished, but it is still kinda funny. And throws seem to be not so great, you’ll probably just get beat by any normal if you didn’t time it well.
I personally like the game, but still feel there is more that SNK has for it that hasn’t been incorporated or worked on yet. If you don’t like it, just wait till we get are next installment (and I can feel how some people feel robbed for $60)
Ok, for one thing, that’s other peoples choice. If ANYONE is good enough, they can beat anyone. Ask DG, he’ll tell you. You don’t need to play Kula, Gato, etc.
I play Kyo Iori and Gai(if they allow him, if now, then Kensou) and I do just fine. You shouldn’t say you see the same team over and over again, cause then that point could be made about every game, including marvel(especially marvel really).
It’s an incredibly good fighter in my opinion. Yes everyone/thing is kind of stripped down but if you can’t lay down a beating with the tools you’re given in KOFXII stop playing fighting games.
That’s true you could say that about Marvel. Then again I’m not saying any other game doesn’t have the same problem. I’m just saying KOFXI isn’t GOLD because of balance issues. Every fighting game has this problem and that’s why none of them are GOLD. If rebooting the series will help to try to figure out how to balance out the characters better then I’m all for it.
Anyone can win if they’re good enough sure but how do you expect to win against an unexpected character if you’ve had no matchup experience against that character from say online or past tournaments. That may be human error but of course the average player doesn’t want to waste time learning a difficult character. I’m not like that of course. My sf4 character is C.Viper. However from playing so many Sagats, Kens, and Ryus online all that experience means nothing when I get the occasional Chun-li, Rufus, or El Fuerte.
I said nothing about beating people, I just beat alot of my friends today at KOF 12.
I say it was gold because they had a good formula, not because of the gameplay balance. If gameplay balance was an issue then every game would suck. Just rebooting KOF to this point at at time like this seemed bad you know?
This argument was never about balance, it was about the fact that KOF12 just took a shit on all the previous KOFs. Thats what it is. They stripped everyone down to basics, added a critical counter system(which wasn’t needed) and added deadlock, and I’m like “why?” They should of made KOF 12 finish the story of Ash, and add in very beginner friendly characters so we could get people immersed in it.
… I mean is it wrong for them to try something new. A fresh start? If you don’t like it, you can always go back to the other games. It doesn’t automatically make XII a bad game though.
Im happy the reboot the series. Those 15 year old sprites had to go. Stripping down the characters to balance the game bettef is a good thing. If you dont like it, XI is there for you to play.
