Introducing ~JAPANESE MUSIC!

They sing in Japanese sometimes to induce sales and they do collabs with the Japanese, but they are 100% Korean. I love them and would love to post them, but this is still a JP music thread. There is not a single Japanese thing about them apart from superficial relations.

Added Prism to Fusion Jazz! Akira Wada’s guitar work is pretty damn amazing, check it out!

here’s a filter of the good music in that list. don’t mess with anything else you’ve listed lol.

gammon, i know i’m like weeks late but i finally got around to that toe stuff i promised you.

here is a completely different commercial that they were featured in ??? CM?OTSUKA ADVIEW SITE???
pretty dope.

and here’s the Nike CM.
that shit is amazing.

we had the final version that was longer and also was sans of all of the huffing + puffing sound effects, but mediafire fucking deleted it!!! so salty. :frowning:

in other news, the band apart’s new album comes out soon!! so excited.

Man those commercials are pretty incredible. I can’t really watch the Pocari Sweat one too well 'cuz my stream is choppy. Very excited to hear they are doing well, BUT MORE EXCITED ABOUT BAND APART.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-----

Love listening to that oldskool raw Shakkazombie and Buddha Brand stuff.

I’ve been listening to Nothing’s Carved in Stone lately. Some pretty good English vocals on their songs. Here are some songs to check out:

Isolation

Around the Clock

Awesome list though. A good mix of great stuff.

Yo these guys are pretty good. I like some of that bassist’s licks, cool stuff!

NCIS is a very good band.

I just REALLY wish that my homie Shinichi took a break from NCIS, and I wish Takeshi dropped the HIATUS (even though I really enjoy them too) and got the boys back together for some more ELLEGARDEN shit.

They were one of my favorite bands for a while after I saw them live at the Knitting Factory six years ago, back when I lived in New York. All of the bands there that night: fucking PE’Z (who are AMAZING live, super cool stage presence; this performance made me the huge PE’Z fan I am today aha), THE EMERALDS (first time hearing about them was at this show, they are a pretty good surf rock band), some band that played anime songs was there (name escapes me), and some all girl band (whose name also escapes me). Albeit a sold out show, many of the band members took it upon themselves to just hang around and communicate/chill with their American fans. It was a really cool experience. I actually had the chance to meet Takeshi at this show. He was a suuuuuuuuuper nice guy. If you ever listened to ELLEGARDEN you would know that he has really good English, but in person I would say his English was almost accent-less. And from what I’ve read in the past, iirc, he taught himself English. dope.

So yeah you could say that I have a pretty strong attachment to ELLEGARDEN and their members hahaha. It kinda fucks with me when I see half of the members making [good] music in other projects.

I know what you mean. Ellegarden is one of my favs too. Hopefully someday they will get back together.

You missed Ai Otsuka in that list of the good music, if you ask me. And Remioromen. And Namie Amuro.

Regarding how original or “generic” some of the people sound…I can’t buy it for some of those people. Stuff like random Hello! Project groups, yeah they’re pretty cookie-cutter. But Namie Amuro? She’s been around for a long ass time and was one of the originators before 90 million other ripoffs came a-knockin’. Hikki is the very definition of corporate (she’s on Avex, for Christ’s sakes) and yet I would recommend her stuff everytime someone asked.

I think a lot of people who call themselves Japanese music fans start to diss some artists just because some of their stuff’s been in an anime or a video game and thus has random Japanophiles all in love with it. But a lot of those people have albums and such that have really good music, and thus shouldn’t be judged solely by fact that the Hot Topic crowd may like that artist too. For example, school food punishment was amazing before they got famous. They’re still amazing after they got famous.

That’s my thoughts on it. Not trying to derail the thread or anything, just wanted to get that off my chest. Carry on.

I’d like that too. But the HIATUS is pretty baller, so it’s not all that important to me.

I feel you. I actually got my start on Japanese music as a result of stumbling upon Hikki’s DISTANCE album back in the 5th grade (it’s still my favorite CD in the entire world, nothing will ever top that CD lol).

Ajikan, who made songs for I don’t know HOW many animes, is still one of my favorite bands for putting out such quality jams over the years. Their image will NEVER change in my eyes just because they “made 400 songs for animes” or cus all of the otakus are hard on REWRITE cus it was in Hagaren. I will only stop liking them if they start to make bad music (which will be never)

And like you said, school food is amazing… even after they sold out. Their new sound definitely isn’t “right up my alley” like their old music was, but it’s still very unique and is something that I definitely still fuck with.

And that’s how I am concerning ALL bands. Good music = respect. idgaf if you made music for Naruto or Sesame Street, If I like the sound, I’m going to listen to it and respect you as a musician. That’s just me tho.

Regarding Namie: You’re definitely right about how she innovated a big part of the Japanese pop industry. I love her for that. She added her own kinda urban flavor in her shit, and now we see chicks like Maki Goto sort of “taking after” Namie’s musical footsteps. I totally respect her as a person and everything (I actually have been in love with her forever). Her swag levels are otherworldly.

It’s just that I just excluded her cus I just never really got into her music like that. WANT ME, WANT ME was the only “DAYUMMM, that’s HOTTTTT” song I really liked from her. I’ve given PLAY at least a good 40 playthroughs back when it came out four years ago and imo, it was okay. Just not “WOWWWW, I’m really sold on Namie now” like I thought it was going to be. Queen of Hip Pop had three songs that shitted on that entire CD. So yeah, her exclusion from my list is just a matter of personal opinion. She’s still mad dope tho, love her (as a person) to death.

Ai Otsuka… don’t like her. Not my type of music. She’s adorable though. :wonder:

And remioromen. I’m going to have to side with gammon on this one. They are a very basic band. “???” was the only song I really, really liked by them. All of their other stuff was a pass for me. And considering the fact that they have like 6-7 albums worth of material, I didn’t give them a rec solely because I’m just not that into a majority of their music. Now dont get me wrong, they aren’t bad at all… just average.

hah wow, good stuff on the list.

I’ve been listening to buddha brand, shakkazombie, m-flo, rip slyme, gagle, nujabes for a while now… I got introduced to j hip-hop through kick the can crew years ago on YTV (canadian tv channel. anyone remember sugar on carlos? :P) and I just recently learned that Kreva went solo a while ago. He’s pretty chill too, along with Dabo, Midicronica, DJ Mitsu, Grooveman spot, which I all recently discovered…

I’ll upload Goin My Way and GL-O-CAL on youtube later (gagle)

Yeah, that’s just my opinion, not saying it has to be yours by any means. Ai Otsuka does have some songs that sound bland or generic, but she’s got a bunch of songs that are great in my opinion as well, like shabondama and ren’ai shashin. Her voice is amazing and I also like that she writes her own stuff and plays her own piano while she sings. There’s a particular part in the song I previously mentioned, shabondama, where she goes into a full piano solo and that shit gets me EVERY time I hear it. Oh and yes, Ai Otsuka is pretty damn hot too.

AKFG is fucking amazing, flat out. Mustang is my shit, so good on Sao for posting the Youtube on that one. I only have a couple of remioromen’s CDs, but I’ve liked everything I’ve heard from them. They have a really nice sound.

There’s many, many more but I don’t wanna go crazy and spam links (just check his channel for more stuff). One of the best producers I’ve ever heard. What even more amazing is that all his beats are made using fruity loops 8

i’ll post more suggestions as soon as i get time…

Added Tsubakiya Shijuusou to rock. He’s got a great style and plays/sings extremely well.

FL Studio is a really good piece of software (if you know how how to use it). That guy BUGSEED clearly knows what he’s doing lol, great stuff there. Sounds like something that should be thrown into a 3S HD Remix.
