Introducing ~JAPANESE MUSIC!

Wait, there was no Do As Infinity on the list?

…I think a fix is in order?

Not being an ass, but I’m simply not going to put a group on there when they have such a generic, featureless style. They got some cool guitar solos, but that is about it IMO.

LOL, honestly I love this video, but this is exactly the sort of music I won’t be featuring.

you havnt contributed shit, and came here talking shit about something people in here OBVIOUSLY disagree with you, hence why i reported you. if your too stupid to see that your acting like a troll because of that then ill happily await the day you walk into a room full of Crips and tell them you hate nigg3rs. if you want to challenge the merits of hip-hop being a musical genre make your own goddamn thread.

anyways, since this thread has lots of electro shit, theres no way you cant give a mention to Yellow Magic Orchestra

the godfather of Japanese electronic music.

The solo work of Sakamoto Ryuichi after their break-up is also very noteworthy.
Most famous for this however.

Boris = God Tier.

Oh yeh YMO is pretty cool, I’ll see 'bout working them in. Try and keep the thread cool though guys, ha. I mean his opinion on hip-hop was very blunt, but we don’t needa start shit.

yeah sorry i just have a low low tolerance when people act stupid

oh and make sure you keep a backup of your opening posts into a text file. wouldnt want something to happen to all this good stuff while editing in additional stuff.

How can anyone mention Towa Tei without mentioning ? (my favorite track of his)

Guitar Vader

I know some of you heard Guitar Vader on Jet Set Radio…

DJ Kentaro (Best DJ out of Japan IMO)

Couple of other good groups to mention are matryoshka, Gutevolk and Takagi Masakatsu. If you’re into down-tempo stuff or post rock, listen to their stuff.

I have the full discogs of both these bands, I’m almost pissed I forgot them lol. and yes both of them have released two of the greatest albums I ever heard period in Program Music I and Smile live at wolf creek.

Boris is like psych stoner doom drone metal insanity goodness. Thinking about it I have to say they are actually the best thing I’ve heard come out of japan.

Smile Live
Akuma no uta
Feedbacker
Pink
Rainbow
smile
heavy rocks
amplifier worship
dronevil

is where I rank their albums. the top 5 or so are essential listening.

this is my favorite song from them.

I think most people are just referring to it as Post Rock, as there are so few artists making this style of music. All I know if is World’s End Girlfriend and to a much lesser extent Piana, but she’s working with World’s End Girlfriend anyway. I thought I recall one more artist of this style, but I can’t remember.

Anyway, everyone should check out the full version of this song, which is in the description of the video Torn Apart linked too. Absolutely stunning music.

EDIT:

Post Rock:

Anoter A-fei for the front page.

And two of my favorite Miaou songs. Anybody who doesn’t have the Painted EP, get it.

(I love this song.)

What is this thread? I’m still listening to Namie Amuro’s stuff from the 90’s.

hiroshi watanabeaka quadra/kaito owns.

Te’ is post-rock band. They’re an instrumental 4 piece. It’s not your typical post-rock, most of their songs are average length, but they pack a lot of emotion and power.

Their lives shows are energetic too.

heh, was on the original post, but yes they are pretty damn great.

Oops, my bad. I didn’t think you’d have them on there. I wouldn’t expect them to be that well known, even in Japan.

ironically they remind me a lot of toe.

How does the OP list Sambomaster and not list ?

Heard this song like 5 years ago when Densha Otoko came out.

So.Good.?

Edit: An even greater transgression-- Listing Scoobie Do but not listing

foamsatmouth

great thread, subbed. unfortunately I don’t really keep up with some music (and it seems there’s just sooo much good stuff it’s hard). Utada is def. my favorite though. I also really like The Brilliant Green.
