Totally forgot about DJ Krush, he’s mad good.
Gotcha on the Rip Slyme. I’ll try Gagle out.

Warning, this might get a bit long…
Kind-of genre Visual Kei has been incredibly creatively dead since like the 90s, but here are some old stuff really worth listening too. VK is sort of like the Wiis library of games… Mostly shovelware, but some really sparkly gems.
N6lKT8REALw"]X-Japan could be considered one of the bands to spark the “genre” into life. The band is said to be Kyo of Dir en Greys main inspiration.
could also be counted into VK, but I won’t deal with him here since he’s bigger than this genre.
While not really a musical genre (it’s all over the place musically), a lot of the more aggressive indie bands were quite experimental with voices/screams with a theme of insanity.
Also a notable genre for everyone looking like girls, but the number of notable actual females in VK is countable on my fingers…
If you’re just gonna click one link, I say go for Kagerou’s R Shitei further down
Dir en Grey
Still makes nothing but gold to this day, though they mostly shedded the VK visual image.
Post-VK:
(10 min but def worth it, it keeps changing and is brilliant. Or skip to like 7:30 and go from there if you’re short on time)
VK:
(my personal favorite. incredibly VK)
(slow but catchy)
(Ballad, always gives me shivers when the child choir sets in)
If you’re gonna poke around looking at other Diru videos, be warned that some of them are very disturbing Also, Raison D’etre has boobies (youtube it).
Kagerou
My first musical love, with brilliant/insane singer Daisuke (may he rest in peace) who will switch between singing really high, scream, growl, pretend voices etc, he’s all over the place.
(fav song, delightfully insane)
(late career, fantastic song)
(best video. title means something like “study of the dark heart of idol worship” i think…?)
Malice Mizer
A classic VK band, more gothic.

MUCC
Bit of a different breed that was popular for a while in indie VK. Can’t remember what the subgenre was called. Something-something kei.

Misc songs
Some of this is kind of obscure stuff.
(a sort of industrial/noise-y band)
(this is actually Dir en Grey minus one person, before they formed DeG)
(gothic/electronic)
(very indie)
(actually a real girl)
(also a real girl, but she tries to look like a girly man… a double trap. effin hot and a beautiful song too)
(this song always makes me happy, but the drummer looks weird and out of place as hell. looks like he’d fit better in Psycho Le Cemu)

(not their best song, but was amazed to even find one on youtube)
(Big band. I don’t like most of their songs, but this one is awesome, very different from the rest)
(nice screams )
(omg, I can’t believe I found this band on youtube)
(more obscurity)
Dir en Grey, Kagerou and MUCC can all be listened to on Spotify btw, for those in countries with that service.
I could go on, but really I think this is more info than anyone wants :looney:
Glad you are familiar with the genre! I neglected that one purely because I hate it, no disrespect ha. I’m also not very educated in visual-kei so you may have some great picks in there I’ve never heard of. I’ll attempt to give it a look through.
Hahaha, oh man I’m retarded. Thanks for the clarification!
See above comment. I meant to type Akira Kosemura. That’s why I shouldn’t be listing stuff off the top of my head instead of looking at my music.
Yes, that is the plan.
Nice! I’m making youtube videos of my favorite songs from my favorite artists. I’ll be posting several in a few minutes.
Glad to see someone mentioned Dir En Grey and Malice Mizer. Two very big names in Japan.
I didn’t see Go!Go!7188 on your list. A 3 piece band. Female lead vocals and guitar, another girl on bass that does backing vocals and a male on drums. I’m always bad with labeling sounds, but they’re a form of rock. They’ve been around for a long time and have experimented a lot with their sound of the years.
Here’s a really good biography with a discography list. http://rockofjapan.com/gogo7188.html

Here’s a really good live video, lots of energy.
**E.D.O Echo SoundSystem. ** A two piece male and female playing electronica with some dub and reggae mixed in. Really good stuff.
You can buy their album Outline off itunes.

Chirinuruwowaka is another band by the guitarist and vocalist of Go!Go!7188.

Thanks man!
No disrespect taken, I personally am not a fan of hip hop / rap / j-pop (not to say I can’t enjoy occasional songs of these genres). People can’t like everything. :china:
And VK does have a shitload of annoying fans that wouldn’t know a good song from a bad if it so jumped up and bit them in the boob. Thus the current sad state the genre has devolved into.
i too am not too fond of VK but Malice Mizer is very good. the gazette as well.
also Onmyouza
and Shido
are ones i recommend. although they arnt really VK, i think they belong in that department.
Here are four videos.
Hip Hop (But also Jazz):

IDM (But also Modern Classical):

(Two tracks. First leads so nicely into the second, I had to post both.
So far I have 24 other videos I intend to create of what I feel are the best songs from artists of various genres. Japan only of course. Might take me a while though, cuz I rarely have that much free time as of late.
Nice, I had read the name before but never listened to anything
Image-wise they somehow remind me of a much less creepy
whoa thats frickin scary. they need better recording equipment though lol
FLiP is an all girl rock band that I’ve been rocking out to lately. The singer has some very powerful vocals and the rest of the band is equally talented.
netGr09pHUI&feature=related]YouTube - FLiP - ??? [PV
rLIMVWM5ELs&feature=related]YouTube - [PV
These are their two PVs.
japan has hip hop? I though they were better than that.
why dont you go troll somewhere else
im not trolling, hip hop is a lazy form of music. Computers do all the work, and some guy talks over it who usually has no understanding of music theory, and isnt even at least playing an instrument, and cant sing.
Its barely even a form of music.
Ling Tosite Sigure has made some of the most visceral intense music I ever heard, and I listen to a lot of shit like black/death metal, old school hardcore, post-hardcore etc. there energy is just crazed.
Mass of Fermenting Dredgs is also really fucking good.
I don’t listen to it as much as I used to but Japanese rock (X-japan to be exact) is what got me into alternative music in high school I’ll always have a soft spot for it.
my cousin went to dinner with shing02 and emi meyer last week, im sooooo salty bout it…
No The Back Horn in the rock section ?

I am immensely disappointed.
And you should add a section for bands like Tokyo Ska Orchestra:

also, i’m very surprised that this thread is going in a good direction with actual good music discussion. cuz honestly i was expecting a weaboo “omg i luv koda kumi i’d cream her hard” kinda thread.
I think I forgot to mention Kenichiro Nishihara
