Introducing ~JAPANESE MUSIC!

It’s nice to see jazztronik on your list. I didn’t see him on your list but I think Shing02 is pretty good, he did some collaborations with nujabes, that’s how I found out about him.

(oh wait hold on, you already have love sic on there).

Quoted for truth, I love me some JP music, but I dunno why they bother to sing in English if they don’t know how to speak it properly. I’ve gotten used to it and can just sit back and enjoy the tunes.

Also I always liked toe. There normally do just instrumental stuff but I really like their style. I believe it’s math rock, though I’m rather uneducated on the sub-genres of rock.

Does that dancing music count in here? the vocaloid stuff, just wondering

Good stuff on the jazz stuff. Been looking around for more jazz to listen to during the day other than Soil and Pimp, J.A.M (crazy you don’t have them on that list), and Jabberloop.

Toe is impossibly good. Math and post rock are often confused. I’m not *entirely *certain of it, but post rock often uses the instrumentals to achieve a mood or audio scenario while math rock uses the complex rhythms just for the sake of awesomeness to put it bluntly, lol. Sigur Ros is a definitive post rock artist, and while Toe sounds nothing like them they do relay similar ideals. Toe has a fair share of both math and post rock conventions. The line is so thin between the two genres I dropped them into post rock purely because their songs have a tendency to create an interesting soundscape.

Sure it counts, ha. Vocaloid-esque tunes are just not my forte and I was wanting to expose more artists that would register on a more standard barometer of quality. Vocaloid tunes often require different interests than purely musical.

Oh wait, I see you put toe in post-rock. Sorry about that, I missed that section completely, sorry for being redundant :looney:.

I’ll be checking some of the stuff I never heard before. Thanks for posting this list.

I think I forgot these guys too

Where is my Nujabes?

Shame on you OP.

Lol… it’s in the hip-hop list mayne. Right there along with other artists of equivalent talent and scope.

this is… actually a good list, good job! a few of my favorites are up there

Check out some new stuff too bro! Glad you approve.

Post Rock, Electronica and Shoegaze section of this list is weak as fuuuuuuuck. Not that the artists suck. Far from it. There is just so many crucial artists of the genre coming out of japan, it’s a huge disservice to not list them.

I’ll be posting a whole bunch of stuff when I get time.

Enjoying the thread. Will be looking into it regularly.

EDIT: And what’s worse, chiptunes weren’t even touched!

Don’t even get me started on IDM/Ambient music. Just wait till I get to my music and time to post some shit. This thread will be exploding.

I thought the shoegaze section was pretty solid for how much of a niche genre it is, ha. I felt proud to even know what it was, lol. I’m eager to see your selections. I totally didn’t even think about chiptunes, nice pick. I was too caught up in the traditional.

Kayo Dot is not from Japan! They only thing Japanese in Kayo Dot is the violinist, Mia Matsumiya. Kayo Dot is from Boston.

Mika Nakashima
Bonnie Pink
AAA
Kaela Kimura
Roundtable

Thanks for the additional artists! I know about a quarter of them, but I am really hoping they are actually good, ha. Not saying anything against your taste, 'cuz I haven’t even looked at them yet. I just don’t want to be filtering through a bunch of mediocrity. I personally don’t like Supercar, can you recommend any good songs from them? Also, why is Akira Kurosawa on there, ha? I am only guessing you do not mean the Japanese director.

If you could, only list artists that you believe are extremely important in their genre or ones of intense personal interest.

EDIT: miaou. is very cool so far! I’m also liking a lot of those other post-rock groups!

Ooo, yeh Mika Nakashima, she’s pretty cool, forgot 'bout her. Bonnie Pink is the first on the J-POP and Kimura Kaela I was really wanting to put on there but I had trouble finding her cool songs. If you can find me a link to Kaela’s video where she has the people in neon suits, white gloves, floating hands, messing with strange objects. I’ll put her up, that song is really cool whatever it is, lol.

For Shoegaze you can throw up

Hartfield
early supercar
Coaltar of the Deepers

Also shiina ringo is one of the greatest artist ever.

hmmm… missing some big names here.
