Installing an MC Cthulhu and Imp in an Xbox 360 SF4 SE stick

Just wanted to update in case anyone is having a similar problem. Replaced the IMP and everything works perfectly. I also did the RJ45 mod and that works great too. Thanks toodles and bomberman for the help and diagrams.

i was just on lizard lick.com and i saw a Toodles chimp board with an onboard imp switch. that’s for xbox 360 right? and another thing, does this one mount straight to the madcatz te stick? sorry if its already been posted but i couldn’t find it

No, ChImp is PlayStation 3.
There does not exist anything for Xbox 360.

The holes for the ChImp to screw does not mount anywhere in the TE.
As in the four screw holes do not line up to anything in the TE.

so, what i need to do is buy a te edition stick for ps3 and mod it so it can play xbox?

No, you need to buy Xbox 360 TE then use a ChImp for Dual Mod so you can play PlayStation 3.

ok. thanks i will try that solution. i want to get all the information i can before i try something like this. because i don’t want to screw up.

oh and another thing. can someone PLEASE make a video of this mod. (for the reading impaired) because im having a very hard time reading through all 50 pages of this mumbo jumbo. LOL
no really it would be greatly appreciated

So I have mc, imp with ps1 cable in 360 te (s).
On mc instruction, it says to wire ps1 cable on 1st row specifically.
But on this tutorial, it says to. Pull vcc power from 1st row V.
Am I suppose to still do that with ps1 power coming in or I should be tapping power fromm elsewhere?
Please help.

If your MC is a v1.4 (it says on the bottom), the ‘PSX is row 1 only’ rule doesn’t apply. Go ahead and follow the tutorial, you’ll be fine.

well, it is v1.4 and i connected both ps1 controller cable and vcc line from imp to V on first row.
it doesn’t seem to be working still.

i think the instruction said i need to switch the joystick to RS and press guide button before plug in to switch to 2nd controller. is this right?
also i have set so main controller is 360, D1+/- is connected to 360, and D2+/- is connected to MC. tutorial says to make D1 as MC. is my way a problem?

360 part is working fine.

please help.

also what exactly is the difference between v1.4 and i guess the newer ones?

ok, resolved.
i read it wrong. so v1.4 is not restricted to that 1st row rule…
anyways i connected vcc from imp to 2nd row of V and it worked…
i don’t have ps2 to test ps2 controller side but hopefully it works too.

and i did have to change stick to RS and press guide… why not just guide button?

ok, i was looking at bomberman’s and he had the switching trigger to RS switch… which i understand now.

ok, something is wrong with my mod.
it detects mc and 360 just fine on PC.
both functions all good.
but it just does not work in actual ps3.
it seems that ps3 is detecting some part of mc cuz if i plug in as mc, it does not show the message of unknown device pop up. and it does shot that message when i plug in for 360 mode.

not sure where to start my investigation so any help is appreciated

RUn a USB cable to the jack on the MC directly, and plug it into the PS3 to test out.

MC directly to ps3 works. but when i switch back to 360 and try ps3 again, it won’t switch to MC.
seems like imp or imp’s wiring problem? or power is not going to ps3 properly?

so this is what i have.
MC v1.4 + IMP in 360 TE-S with ps1 cable. 360 TE is default and MC as 2ndary
Both MC and 360 are detected with all buttons and stick working on PC.
360 TE works on 360.
when i plug in to PS3 via USB directly from MC’s usb port, it works fine.
when i plug in to PS3 through IMP with guide pressed, it does not show the “unknown devicde” pop up error message, but nothing works on the stick including guide button.

also, when i try to update the MC’s firmware, pressing start+select when plugging it in then open bootloader, bootloader does not detect MC in bootloader mode. i tried on both MC’s usb plug directly and through IMP. neither works for bootloader, but stick is recognized as MC on pc game controller menu.

what could be wrong here?
please help.

What do you have connected to the ‘Guide’ point on the Imp? The ‘Select’ and ‘Start’ points on the Imp?

right now i have guide on imp connected to home on mc screw terminal, i also have home on screw ternimal to xguide on 360 te.

i originally had 360 te on d1, and mc on d2. now i swapped d1/2 so mc is default.
i can switch to 360 just fine but plugging into ps3 still doesn’t work which means my wiring to mc?
since it works fine through the mc usb port, i can only think as my wiring and not mc’s compatibility.
but since d+/- is directly from usb soldering point, it may be the power and ground issue?
i have vcc on mc to te vcc, and V column from mc to imp vcc.
one ground from screw terminal to te, other screw terminal ground to imp ground.

maybe i should take imp vcc/ground to usb gnd/vcc on mc?
it seems like power to MC through imp and V column is resulting lower power and my PS3 is not recognizing properly or something.

First off, move the wire from ‘guide’ on the Imp and solder it to the RSTICK point on the 360 pcb, and set the D+/D- from the 360 board to 1D+/1D-, and the D and E columns from the Cthulhu to the 2D+/2D- points (D to 2D-, E to 2D+). Doing that will save you soooo much trouble. If the slider is on RS, then its in Cthulhu mode. DP or LS, its in 360 mode. Plus its easier to get to the MC bootloader: slider on RS, hold down start and select when plugging in. Do NOT connect the Select or Start points on the Imp to anything, and make sure the unlabelled jumper on the bottom of the Imp is NOT shorted together.

For power, the VCC screw terminal to the Xbox pcb is good. The connection from Imp VCC to the Cthulhu V column is good ONLY if you will not be using other cords or RJ-45 jacks connected to the MC Cthulhu. If you are going to use other supported MC consoles via soldered cables or RJ-45 jack, then you want the Imp VCC point connected to the VCC screw terminal, same as the 360 board.

Wire it up that way, and test it out on a PC. If everything comes up as it should, then move on to the PS3.

ok…
well i just went with vcc on mc usb to imp vcc… and now it is working!
but it doesn’t work through that USB port on mc directly any more… ??? i have no idea
but since i don’t really have problem, i think i will keep this unless u see some major problem.
only thing is i can’t test ps1/2 on mc right now without those systems…

i had another dumb mistake which explains why i couldn’t go into the bootloader mode. i had start, select and LT wired wrong.
