Installing an MC Cthulhu and Imp in an Xbox 360 SF4 SE stick

Okay, quick question about the Xbox PCB and where the (what used to be a) USB cable should be going to.
I’ve got pretty much everything else wired, and the person who wired my stick has the green and white going to the D+/- on the IMP, and the other D+/- are going to the Cthulhu, I need to fix where the VCC and GND go, but thats irrelevant to the last thing I need to figure out.

Do I need to hook anything up to the G/V/D+/- on the top of the imp? I’m running everything out via RJ-45, so I’m a bit confused as to where or if I need to wire that. Should I wire from the bottom the the Cthulhu USB jack to that?

I can’t remember where I found someone talking about this, but … I’m using an Imp to switch between a PS3 TE PCB and a Madcatz PCB, and my computer recognizes the XBOX pad when plugged in with the RS switched on, but will not recognize the PS3 in normal mode. Could I have fried the TE PCB and the XBOX controller still works? Or is there a way to check the if the PS3 is still functioning?

I did this mod successfully for a friend the first time, but this time its not working although I thought I did everything the same way.

I currently have a 360 TE stick with PS3 Cthulhu / Imp and want to have GC support. From what I understand I will need to purchase the MC upgrade kit. What im not to sure about is how i would go about wiring the GC cable. I looked at the tutorial on the instructibles website. Do i just wire straight into the Cthulhu board and bypass the Imp? If i do that Im assuming that as soon as my cthulhu detects that its connected to my Wii it will just work ?

Wiring problem. Post good pictures if you want a better answer.

Wire it straight to the MC Cthulhu if you want the cord hanging out the back of your stick, just like the Instructable shows. If you need to order just the upgrade kit and nothing else, let me know and I can send it first class mail so the shipping is $2 instead of the priority mail $6.

completely newbie here lol, but does it matter which way the (2) quick disconnect wires connect to a button on a TE/SE madcatz stick?

No matter.

Thanks for the awesome guide. Got my TE hooked up with an MC Cthulu and RJ-45 jack and it works perfect. I love the Neutrik jack and connectors. They really make this mod look/feel professional.

I was considering rewiring it slightly, though, so that the Guide point on the Imp connects to the DP point on the TE board instead of the RS point. This way, when I want to use 360 mode, I switch to DP, and when I want to play anything else, I switch to either RS or LS. Obviously not a big deal, but this would eliminate having to switch twice (to RS, then to DP after it powers on) when playing the 360. If there’s a reason this is a bad idea, though, would someone point that out?

I also can’t find a diagram labeling the DP point on the TE board. When looking at this image, is it right above the RS point?

No. Just use the RS point.

Okay. Sorry, I guess I didn’t read this and/or the Cthulu thread thoroughly enough to realize it’s a bad idea/not possible. Probably should have assumed it wouldn’t work since nobody else is wiring it that way. Thanks for the response.

Hellpp!!!

Hi All! Great post! I have a quick question and obviously I’m far from savvy with circuitries and soldering. Anyway, I finally started on my dual modding project after finally receiving all the parts I need. However the very first solder destroyed one of the Grounds on the 360 TE’s PCB. The one where the USB originally connects to. I was trying to connect this ground to the ground on the MC Cthulhu. Nothing is left of this except for a black hole and burnt plastic… my attempt at trying to salvage this connection ultimately led to it’s demise. The rest of the soldering went great though!!

My question is, am I totally screwed at this point and need a new PCB? Or can I just jump ship to any of the other grounds on the TE’s PCB?

Yep, pick any other spot for ground you’d like.

Just got done doing my second dual mod with a Ps3 cthulu and IMP everything seems to work fine but i have contorl over the joystick. The bottons seem to all work fine but my joystick has a mind of its own. Even if I unplug it from the fight stick it still seems to move when it wishes any idea what I did wrong or what i can do to resolve this?

just installed these but pc is not recognizing either mode of the fightstick.
Did the small troubleshoot, but in step 2 the voltage of pin 14 was 6mV. any help in getting this running also pc is running windows7.
There is also resistance between the ground screw and column E. Any help

Sounds like you have some wires crossed. Double check that the wires you soldered onto the Mad Catz motherboard aren’t touching each other with stray solder, or any other interference. It’s unlikely due to the build quality of a Cthulhu, but check you have attached the wires correctly to that also.

So basically now i have un soldered all the wires but the four directions and the vcc/ground/d1d2(for both psc and 360pcb) it wont work at all when i plug it into a 360 just blinks once and thats it. when i plug it into my ps3 does the same thing and the joystick will only do a movement if i jam it left and right real fast or up and down if i just go one direction nothing happens I also have my wires for the up down left right soldered into the area rigth about where the joystick wire plugs into the actual joystick because there is to little solder right now to solder onto the usual spot. Any ideas where i should start to fix this problem. Was doing this for a friend since i was able to make mine work thought i could dual mod his as well. Any help will be much appreciated.

so i replaced the capacitor and got everything rewired. All is working well for teh few tests runs i did should have a good test run later today.

Theoretically from this my joystick should be able to work fine correct? and it should be able to work on xbox right now correct?

I can now move up but as soon as i let go it just goes back down the menu still cant go left and right and check my solders for the directions and they are not touching why would this happen

Ok still got the same problem here are some pics maybe they will help you see what im doing wrong.

It appears that your D+ and D- are hooked up way wrong. also your solder points are not clean, there is a lot of exposed wire with a lot of possible shorts all over the board. you need to clip off the excess with a wire cutter.

You should get a 25 watt soldering iron with a tip as sharp as a sharpened pencil.

You can check out my tutorial thread on how to hook up the D- and D+ lines.

Ignore the step about RJ-45, your usb out is fine so long as it is not shorting.
