The D+ and D- should show significantly different numbers from each other. Check the resistances between D+ and D- on the 360. If its a low value , there’s a short between the two that will make it not work.
My meter says the resistance is either infinite or ~938 kohm.
Disconnect the D+ and D- between the 360 pad and the Imp. If the voltages are both close to 3v like you describe when not connected to the Imp, I’d say call the pad dead. You could solder a USB cable to the 360 pad directly for testing if you wanted to be sure.
D- is 3.228V
D+ is 3.233V
I wonder what it could have been… static shock? Mechanical damage? Thermal damage?
Crap.
Try a USB cable directly connected to the 360 pad then. It’s the only way left to be sure.
Ok. I do not have a multimeter. I will get one today. But now I see that if I keep unplugging it and plugging it back in, it will work after a bunch of tries. Any ideas? And If I am having a problem with the “1” input, then why would a short in 2D+ and 2D- have anything to do with it? The “2” input seems to be working fine.
Thanks to everybody for all the help and ideas available in this thread. I finished MC Cthulhu and Imp install in my TE stick last week and it is by far the best stick I’ve ever laid hands on, but I do have an issue.
I can’t get my stick recognized in any mode (PS2, xbox, GC or usb) using the G-V row. I have a cat5 ethernet cable hooked up to the 2nd row then going to an RJ-45 jack as shown on the 2nd post. I’m showing continuity from the cable pins all the way back to the cthulhu board and it still isn’t recognized. BTW, I can use the stick on my xbox using a usb to xbox adapter (updated to 1.3 firmware).
Anybody got any ideas what might be wrong?
USB Cable Question
Hey Guys, First off AMAZING thread! Tons and tons of helpful info here!
I have a question for you guys. I picked up a Multi-Cthulu and IMP and will be installing them in my 360 TE Stick tonight. I’m just planning on using this stick for PS3 and 360. Do I need to install the RJ-45 jack to have both systems share a USB cable or can this be done with the Madcatz USB?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
-Thanks
You don’t need to install the RJ-45 jack. You can use the cable from the TE on IMP and use that single cable for both PS3 and 360.
Problem =/
Hey Guys,
I installed the Multi-Cthulhu in my 360 TE stick tonight and I’ve run into a problem. My PC doesn’t recognize either the Cthulhu board or the 360 board all 4 of my jewel lights stay lit. When I plug it into my 360 all 4 lights around my xbox jewel flash constantly. I’ve been going back through and checking my connections. Anyone know whats going on?
-Thanks
Just a wild shot in the dark here, but it may not be related to your dualmod. Try and check if the USB cable’s breakaway portion is connected properly/tightly.
Man I wish it was that easy lol. Unfortunately, the quick connect is attached so my problem lies elsewhere. Anyone else have any ideas?
For those interested I figured out what the problem was. The switch on the TE stick was faulty so I just used XGUIDE as the way to swap between consoles.
Help!!!
So I just finished modding my SE stick with the MC Cthulu thanks to this great guide (Thanks Bomberman and Toodles)… I plugged my stick into my computer (with stick in LS position, it is not recognized in other positions) to test it out and it worked almost flawlessly in the multiconsole version. I tested all buttons. Everything worked, except that button #11 is not being used at all and guide and turbo are both showing as being the same button (#13). I am not sure if I made a mistake somewhere since I would imagine that these two buttons should be recognized seperately. I then tried to load it in 360 mode by holding guide.
This is where another problem arises. The stick is not even recognized by the computer when I hold down the guide button when I plug it in. The stick is originally an xbox360 stick. I am wondering if this does not have to do with the fact that the guide and turbo are being recognized as the same button which might be turbo, but don’t have any idea about what to do to resolve this issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need any more clarification.
I got all my parts and sat down to look at doing this mod. Unfortunately, my 360 PCB is different from the one in the pictures. There are two rows of pins along the outer edge. The outermost along the top (bottom in the pic below) of the PCB are labeled CA15 - CA24. The ones along the right edge (left in pic) are similarily labeled. There are set of pins just on the otherside of these that appear to be the ones for the buttons.
Does anyone else have this PCB? I am not really sure what to do.

Yeah, mine looks just like that too… I followed the standard instructions and was able to get the stick working in Multiconsole mode, but cannot get it to work for 360. I am going to check all of my connections, to make sure I didn’t incorrectly attach something to the MC Cthulu, or PCB. Hopefully that fixes it, or someone (Bomberman, or Toodles… Please?) can help me find out what I did wrong.
You should be able to follow the instructions as they are posted.

idk, I might be missing something, but it looks like a normal TE pcb to me. Did you get that out of an SE or something? Either way, just from looking at it and comparing to the TE diagrams on the first page, looks like you should be able to wire it up according to those. (the PS3-only or MC cthulhu for TE diagrams)

The connections are labeled by the silk screen (white lettering), and fairly easy to decipher.
Top left’ish of the board, you’ll see (from top to bottom) 5V, D-, D+, Gnd, Sgnd
Bottom left’ish (from left to right) down, up, left, right, Gnd
Bottom Center (left to right) Back, Start, Gnd, right trigger, left trigger, right button
Bottom right’ish (left to right) Left button, Y, X, B, A
use those connections, follow the guides, and you should have no problems. I’m sure it looks different because it’s a different Revision of the PCB, but functionally the same.
Okay, yes, it is the TE board but it was in my SE. I just don’t know how for the life of me I will be able to solder to those pads. They are too small and close together, I am not sure I can do it. How do you hold the wire in place while also holding the solder and the iron? I am having trouble with that. Can anyone help? Sorry I’m such a noob.
It’s cool, it can be tough if you’re not experienced with it. Some people have those ‘helping hands’ things that cold your components in place, I just do it ghetto style and use some rubber bands to keep the board in place on a thin piece of wood when I do it, haha.
I also didn’t need to hold the solder most of the time, since there’s already solder on the pads. It was enough just to put a little flux on the wire tip and soldering iron tip, tin them both, and just use one hand to hold the wire, the other to hold the iron. (and It really is just tinning- i’m not globbing solder on either the wire or the iron, that would be bad). Has always worked well for me, but others might have some different methods.
