Installing an MC Cthulhu and Imp in an Xbox 360 SF4 SE stick

Take a multimeter. Check resistance from the XGUIDE point on the main 360 pcb to the HOME screw terminal on the Cthulhu. If its a high (infinite) resistance, then the guide button line used by the Imp and Cthulhu and the physical button aren’t connected to the XGUIDE point on the main pcb. Thats a wiring problem, easy to fix by will likely need a smidge of soldering. If the resistance is low, almost 0, then it is connected and the 360 pcb is borked.

Im sorry about this I know I said everything worked in pc mode but I just checked again and the guide doesnt show up on the pc. I just checked out both modes on pc again. Heres what I found.

360 Fightstick - 10 Buttons show up and they all work, no guide button.
Cthulu - 13 buttons show and the select button doesnt work. Guide button and the other 9 buttons work.
So the guide button doesnt work on 360 and the select button doesnt work on ps3.

Hope this helps.

I tested cthulhu in GGPO and was inserting credits with the select button.
Also I remember testing in Blazblue…(ps3) (pressing start, choosing a color and then pressing select to cancel selection)

This really is baffling me to say the least…

Ill see can I get my hands on a multimeter today. Im not sure how to use one though, what setting would I put it on for this job?

Select and Start should show in the cthulhu as #9 and #10 (I forget which is which), and Guide shows up as #13. Post up which of the numbers lights up for each button, post up which if any buttons shows up as always lit, and post what happens if you press any pairs (select+start, select+guide, start+guide)

Ok

Start = 10
Select = n/a
Select + Start = 10
Select + Guide = 13
Start = Guide = 10, 13

No lights are always lit. All the punches and kicks light up 1-8. Buttons that dont light up are 9, 11, 12.

11 and 12 wont light up. And I’m assuming that last line was “Start + Guide = 10 & 13” :slight_smile:
Follow the link for the troubleshooting guide link in the first post of the cthulhu thread. It’ll help explain how to check resistance. Make sure to pay attention to how the meter responds with the two probes touching eachother (0 resistance) and when not touching each other or anything else (infinite resistance). Then check resistance between the Home screw terminal point on the cthulhu and the Xguide point on the main TE pcb. Then do the same for the Select screw terminal on the cthulhu and BACK point on the main TE pcb.

didn’t this used to be stickied? I know they cleaned up the stickies and everything, but I think this one definitely should have stayed… even when it was stickied people asked all the time how to dual mod the madcatz sticks…without the stick it will be even more, haha.

I know this thread is about the Mad Catz’s stick, but I want to know if anyone has done this with an hrap 3 using the hori pcb and a hacked 360 controller? I could not find a thread regarding the hrap 3… Probably way back in the archives but whatever. Its pretty much the same thing right? which usb cable is best to use? The one from the hrap or the one from the 360 controller?

Obiwan-fashobi’s MC Cthulhu + IMP mod. He just wanted 360 + PS3 functionality.

I think I did a pretty good job my first time around. I mounted the Imp with the terminal switch and I used pull ties to mount the Cthulhu board. I wanted to avoid drilling holes in the case.

Dude, you gotta tell me how you get that awesome ribbon cable look like that. You said something about hot glue before- but is that the same as using a glue gun? If so, I mus have done something really wrong cuz I couldn’t replicate that look…

I did take a page from your book and glued the boards together and cut the wires to exact length etc. I came out with a very clean job I was pretty happy with, but at first I was trying to get that ribbon cable look and it wasn’t working out too well. The glue would start to peel and the wires would come apart while I was working… How on earth do you get it to look so smooth like that??

Here’s how its done.

cool, thanks a lot I’ll try it out next time.

I installed the Imp and the PS3-only Cthulu in an SE stick. The PS3 mode works just fine in Windows, but the 360 mode doesn’t. Gives me an “error with USB device” warning when I plug it in. The Guide light flashes twice briefly upon plug-in but nothing happens after that.

first off i wanted to congratulate you on a fine job on your 360 + ps3 dual mod.

i was wondering which pcb you used as your base? did you use a 360 te pcb with the cthulhu and imp boards?

i was also wondering if there were any hick-ups during the process, anything that i should tell my solder friend to watch out for when hes attempts to solder the boards for me…

thank you for your time…

EDIT: Problem Sorted.

A special thanks!

I just completed my first dualmod X360 TE and Cthulhu + IMP Switch this weekend. I want to give a special thanks to everyone who made this thread (why is this not sticky’d anymore?) and contributed to the information. The OP, Toodles, and more, I have to give you guys mad props for making this more or less “Make A go to B” type of deal and for the plethora of information that goes with it all.

I do have a quick question though. I have a PS3-only Cthu, and I’m wondering if I hit up Toodles for the upgrade chip to make it MC Cthu, will I have to change the solder point of the 5V? I followed what the OP said and soldered the power to the 5V usb area next to the D+/- for the ps3-cthu, so I’m wondering if I upgrade it, will I have to resolder that to the V-3 point instead?

At any rate, thank you everyone for all the info, the instructions, the images…everything!

Just finished up another one for a friend. This second time around took me 2 hours to complete.

Quick question: what diameter size solder is best for this mod?
