Installing an MC Cthulhu and Imp in an Xbox 360 SF4 SE stick

It should select the console based on whatever wire is connected to the point labelled ‘Guide’ on the Imp. You connected that point to the ‘R Stick’ point on the 360 board, so, no, the actual Guide button on the stick won’t affect which console is used, only the slide switch.

If you followed the guide, then plugging the stick in when the switch is set to LS/DP will activate the primary PCB (1D+/1D-). Plugging the stick in when the switch is set to RS will activate the secondary PCB. This is because you soldered the Guide point on the imp to the RS point on the 360 - get it? Holding the guide button while plugging your stick in will not matter, because you soldered the imp as such. If you wanted to set the console by holding the guide button, you’d solder the guide button to … well, I can’t think of it off the top of my head o_o, but basically, wherever you solder the guide point from the imp to will affect how the imp selects the pcb.

But, the guide/home button still works on your respective console, right? Like, pressing it when on PS3 mode brings up the XMB, and when on 360, the Dashboard?

If you followed the guide, everything seems normal.

custom stick with just a MC Chtulhu?

Hey I know this has really nothing to do with this thread but, I had bought buttons and a stick and a MC Cthulhu… and then I thought can I make a custom stick with just a MC Chtulhu?
And if so is there a basic diagram to make one from a Cthulhu?

thanks for the explanations shiryu22 and Toodles…

i havent tried the stick on any console yet but it should work fine cause guide button lights up and works when in ps3 mode on the PC so i guess its all good

My question’s probably already been answered, but what am I supposed to do with all the red glue on the screws inside the TE?

Bafiaris, no problem - glad everything worked out.

You should be able to. And… basically, you just solder each corresponding point on the Cthulu to your buttons/stick. There are general guides available that you can use for your purposes, but it’s pretty self explanatory on the board itself.

great post, ima have to read through this all later.

this is exactly what i’ve been looking for

I have a question. The shielded ground on the xbox360 PCB is connected with a white wire. Where is that wire goes? (Usually, Has it been cut out without any connection?)

Bueller?

Green, take that glop off. You don’t really need it o_o. Scrape it off with your screwdriver/Xacto knife and you’re done.

Biopeter - shielded ground? I’m assuming you’re talking about the extra ground? Maybe my memory’s wrong, but the colored wires on the cable for my 360 TE were white, green, red, black, and black (D-, D+. 5v, ground, and shielded ground, if I remember correctly). Was your shielded ground white as well? If that’s the case, you still don’t need it if you’re dual modding. In fact, I initially screwed up my first imp and rewired the USB cable to go just to the 360 PCB (ie, just the PCB going straight to the USB cord) and I didn’t even connect the shielded ground - it still worked.

Basically, yes, that wire (shielded ground) is left unused.

Bomberman’s 1st post regarding shielded ground

Spoiler

Remove the USB cable by either desoldering it or cutting off the wires as close to the SE PCB as possible. Cut the wire that was attached to SGND (shielded ground) completely off because we won’t be using it when attaching the cable to the Imp.

Thanks shiryu22,

I mean in picture of Alex_c’s mod. All Five point are connected (D-, D+. 5v, ground, and shielded ground) and he use a white a wire for the shielded ground.
The shielded ground connection is different from Bomberman’s 1st post.
So, I wonder where is that goes?

It looks like he resoldered it to the shielded ground point on the 360 PCB, which isn’t necessary. Don’t worry about the shielded ground - cut that wire off.

Alex_C, if you read this, why’d you solder the shielded ground? Just curious o_o.

I have weird problem here.

I bought a 360 TE fightstick dual modded with mc cthulu/imp off someone. The problem is the guide button doesnt bring up the guide on 360. I keep my finger on the guide button to recognize the stick when I plug it in. The lights show up and it recognizes the stick no problem but the guide never comes up and will not come up if I press it. Everything works fine on ps3.

I contacted the seller but he has no idea what could be wrong, he didnt have a 360 to test it on. Anyone got any ideas?

My guess is you have the toggle switch to the left of the xbox button locked and didn’t realize it. If so it will work for ps3 but not 360.

Forgot to say its not locked. It wouldnt work at all if it was locked. Everything works except the guide button doesnt bring up the guide menu, really weird.

Perhaps the solder point got loose/disconnected? If the button works when plugged into PS3 (it brings up XMB), then the connections on the guide area probably aren’t loose (which is why my TE would not register the 360 TE - since the LS-DP-RS wasn’t connected and powered, the imp didn’t know when to switch to the 360 pdb).

If you have a basic knowledge of soldering, I suggest opening it and trying to fix it.

You’re definitely going to have to crack it open, and definitely use a multimeter to locate the problem. By the sound of it, the Home point on the Cthulhu is connected to the XGUIDE button on the LED pcb, but for some weird reason, not making contact with the XGUIDE point on the man TE pcb. Which is weird, since most folks solder the wire to the point underneath where the ribbon cable plugs into the main TE pcb.

Hi Marcus, appreciate your help here
I did the modification to the stick, I am truly unsure of what has happened…

I added the cthulhu and imp using the Bomberman’s guide. Exception being I wired up the Xbox guide button to the imp instead of RS to imp. I tested it all in fightstick 360 mode. Control panel /Game controllers all seemed to be fine (including the guide button)

Bush told me the guide wasn’t working for xbox360 but is fine in ps3, first thing I thought was the plastic lock switch. He has told me it isn’t the case.

What I don’t get is If He is holding guide when he plugs it in… IMP hops it into the original 360 pcb.
Showed up in my pc as working fine…

Any help would be much appreciated this is baffling ?

The thing is the te is recognized on 360 and all the buttons work etc except the guide button wont bring the guide menu.

Ive had a look inside and the home button is wired from the imp onto the xguide like you said toodles. There is another wire coming off the same point on that pcb but im not sure where that is going, i would presume its going to the guide point on te???

If I remember correctly I wired everything up using the holes at the back of the cthulhu to keep it all looking neat and tidy. I’m sure I used the point underneath the 360 pcb and not the alternative.

I do remember using the alternative xbox guide point for the imp switch however.

I’m so sorry about this :wonder: I cannot remember what this second connection on the xguide on the daughter board was for. I fear this is the issue… (I did the mod months ago)

What I don’t get is why does it show up as working under control panel/game controllers… The stick is meant for xbox360 originally and it’s seemingly all functioning when plugged into a pc :looney:
