just wondering howm uch harder this would be to do with a ps3 stick instead of a 360 one
It would be like this?

Because you would have to use a Common Ground Xbox 360 Controller PCB.
There isn’t a thing like Cthulhu for the Xbox 360.
ah thanks jdm
Is there any newb friendly guide to do this besides the first post?
Like a step by step guide, like wire 1 goes to point A. Like taking you through every little step? (not just wire it like this, with picture of a big mess of wires and arrows pointing to a general area). Looking for some really basic paint by numbers idiots guide.
Or a video guide on youtube or something.

this IS the noob friendly guide

It does have both a step by step guide (not just pictures there are words there if you actually read them, lol), AND a diagram that says which points to connect on each board. I suggest looking at the first few posts again and reading this time, you’ll find it…
Well I guess that’s a big no.
Yeah I was looking more for something that holds your hand more.
Like the instructables on the MC controller installs
Have no idea what wire goes where.
dude… like I said, there IS a diagram linked in the guide that is labeled and shows exactly what points are connected. it could not be any easier unless he actually did it for you. Again…read the first few posts…look at the links. It’s there. If that diagram doesn’t help, then I don’t think anything will…
Lol yeah. I think i’m gonna get Modchipman to do the install anyway.
This looks a little to hard for me and I don’t want to break my stick.
(never soldered anything before).
Dammit, this happened to me yesterday in my SE XB360 stick with a chthulu in it. I might try to call MadCrapz and see if I can get a new pcb.
Fantastic thread. I’d certainly use this guide to mod my stick… if I didn’t find the process of soldering to be the most mind-numbing activity I’ve ever undertaken. I’m surely not dissing people that do it. I just hate it and I’m more than willing to give Bomberman $65 to avoid it.
Thanks everybody for keeping the thread going in my absence. I’m trying to catch up on some orders that piled up over the summer, but after that I’ll get around to fixing up the guide and organizing things better.
bomberman, how does imp switch switch from xbox to PS3? I mean within each console, the guide button should bring up the console dashboard. So how does the switching work?
thanks in advance.
that question is answered by the wiring diagram…
If you wire as the diagrams show, then you use the stick selection switch to select the mode you want when plugging the stick in. Whether or not you have a ps3-only or MC cthulhu will determine what stick setting ( RS or DP/LS) is for which console (again, this is if you wire it as the diagrams show).
The guide button is the ‘old’ way of doing it, but even if you wire it that way, holding the guide button down (or not) when plugging the stick in will choose the console setting, and the button will still work as it normally should.
Yeah, the Imp only does the switching at the moment you plug the stick in. After that, the Guide button or LS-DP-RS switch does whatever it would normally do.
BTW I am pleased to announce that I have discovered a way to install a Neutrik RJ-45 jack inside the cord compartment of a TE stick! Details and pictures coming Sunday or Monday.
Thanks for the help guys! You guys are awesome.
Special Thanks for Bomberman for this tutorial.
Having an issue with my Xbox 360 TE Stick/MC Cthulhu/IMP.
For some reason it seems that my GUIDE button isn’t working at all. It’ll light up when switched to 360 mode, however it doesn’t seem to do anything at all when pressed. When connected in PS3 mode it doesn’t work either, but pressing START + SELECT does access the home menu. Any ideas? I am using the MC Cthulhu to TE Stick
You connected the Disable Home jumper or the unlabelled jumper on the Imp. In a TE, there’s no reason to do either.
And You said I couldnt do this a while back… lol
Iiight excited to hear the instructions on Monday
Well I just checked both, the jumper pads on the MC Cthulhu labeled DISABLE_HOME and the unlabeled jumper on the back of the IMP switch, and neither are connected. I didn’t touch either of them during assembly.
It fits your description of the situation. Check either the voltage on the Home screw terminal, or the resistance between Home and GND. If the voltage or resistance is very low, then something is keeping Home and Guide looking like they’re always pressed (always connected to ground). Find it and eliminate it.
