guys, how can I tell if the 360 controller is common grounded or not before opening it? cuz i wanna buy one for that matter.
I just installed an Imp and Cthulhu Board in my TE Stick just like discribed in the first few posts here, but i’m having a problem:
VCC and GND for the 360 Board goes through the Cthulhu. 360 is mode 1, ps3/pc mode 2. The 360 Mode works perfect, but when i press and hold the Guide Button and connect the TE to the PS3, nothing happens. When i connect it to my pc, it still says 360 Game Controller.
What could be the problem?
Thanks
what exactly are these plastic blocks?

i messed up the A button solder point. the plastic block fell off, and i placed it back to the best of my ability.
do they even matter?
lets say if you don’t want to drill a hole in the se stick but still want it modded to work on multi consoles, won’t it be possible to install a cat5 cable on the cthulhu pcb and then connect it with a coupler?
or
using a cat5 cable with a female end by cutting off the male end and wiring it to the pcb?
That’ll work!
had that happen after I got all my stuff soddered, but mine is the down part. can we just use some soder and a wire to ground it out, or are we looking for a new PCB.
edit - forget it. i’m losing sleep over this crap.
hi guys, a quick question.
I modded my 360 TE stick with Cthulu and imp board a few months back.
it’s been working fine, except a few times this past week.
Once in a while, roundhouse and 3kick button stops functioning in xbox during matches.
If I unplug the controller and reconnect it, the roundhouse button comes back alive.
this happened a few times now… any idea what I can do to try debug this?
i haven’t experienced this in ps3 yet (i don’t play on it as much as xbox).
thanks in advance!!
First of all, thanks for this guide! Especially the wiring diagrams and pictures.
I managed to do this mod on my TE stick (with the IMP board, not DPDT switch) and get it mostly working but there’s still one issue. If I leave the TE stick plugged into my XBox when the xbox is off, it seems to randomly turn on the xbox. Did anyone else experience this issue or does anyone have an idea what could be causing this behaviour? Other than that, I tested the stick on a PS3 and it works fine.
So I just finished my 360 TE Dual Mod (with Cthulu+Imp) and the Cthulu/360 pcb’s both work separately but I don’t know how to make it switch systems on just one cord. I set it to RS and am holding the guide button down but it is not changing it stays in 360 mode (I am testing it on a PC not a PS3). Am I doing something wrong?
could you give some more info? Like are you using a ps3 or MC cthulhu? And what do you mean when you say they both work separately? Do you have it set up with 2 cords right now?
You shoudln’t need to set to RS AND hold the guide button…it’s just one or the other. But depending on how you wired it (which of bomberman’s diagrams you followed) that should tell you what you need to do to put it in which mode.
ok, so yeah, if you disregard the cord coming out of the 360 pcb, set the stick selector to RS (do nothing else), and plug the stick into your ps3 it doesn’t work? (Or better yet- if you plug it into your pc do you see it come up in the control panel under ‘game controllers’ or whatever it’s called in your ver of windows (just going to assume you have windows here…haha)
I am not sure if I understand you entirely. But on stick selector RS mode both cords are recognized and work for their default systems. Cord from Cthulhu says Cthulhu and cord from TE (360 pcb) says TE.
Lol and yes I have windows 7. Sounds like you are suggesting RS should change it, do I have a wiring problem than?
well- what I’m saying is disregard the cord connected to your 360 pcb (the original cord that came with the stick) entirely, because what you are looking for is to have both systems work with one cord right?
If you followed bomberman’s tutorial then you should have a usb cord connected to your IMP correct? So you should be able to plug THAT cord into your ps3 when the stick is set to RS, and have it be recognized by ps3, and plug it into a 360 when it’s set to something other than RS and have it be recognized on that system.
I was just saying that while troubleshooting you shoud just use your pc cuz it’s easier. You shoudl be able to set the stick selector to RS, plug in, have it recognized. Then take it out, set to DP, plug it in, have it recognized. With bomberman’s diagram you just disregard the cord attached to the 360 pcb completely (most people just cut it off and attach that one to the imp, that’s why I was confused about you having 2 cords)
Correct
Okay that helps a ton, because I was assuming the default cord was the 360 pcb one.
That being said the one and only cord I am concerned with, almost does nothing 360 related. If I hold dashboard (only in RS mode the other modes the 360 doesn’t respond at all) it will power my 360 but thats it nothing else works, no other button including dashboard button. Also the 360 green ring doesn’t light up suggesting that no joystick is plugged in.
From that cord it works on the PC recognized as a PC/PS3 Cthulhu in all stick selector modes.
You have been a great help.
hmm… I don’t know if there are any properties of the guide button that cause it to work in either mode, but since RS should be PS3 mode per the diagram you linked, do you think you might have accidentally wired it based on the MC cthulhu guide isntead of PS3 only? That one has the modes switched so that it’s RS to be in 360 mode, and others to be in ps3 mode.
The reason that was the first thing to come to mind, is that if you did it that way, then once the 360 is on, you need to switch it back to DP to make the directions work again.
I’m not sure though since you said it’s being recognized as ps3 cthulhu in both modes on pc…one of them should show as MadCatz SFIV fightstick or something… If it was me, after sorting out the stick selection stuff by some experimentation, I would probably start checking the wiring, starting out with the data lines (d+ d-) going between the imp/cthulhu, and imp/360 pcb.
But just to be clear about what I said before- if you did accidentally swap the d1 and 2 connections (like how it is for the MC cthulhu in bomberman’s guide), That would mean you have to set it to RS to get it recognized by 360, then set it back to DP or LS to actually use it.
Cool thanks for all the help I will start by double checking my diagrams and data lines in the morning.
I will update after some research but its time to call it a night, thanks again kind sir!
Question, since I didn’t see if it was covered – Is it safe to use 24 AWG wire with the Cthuhlu, or is it necessary I order 30 AWG? I have a ton of 24 AWG from the other projects I’ve done, reason I’m asking. Thanks.
I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work from a technical standpoint, it just might be kind of difficult since the points you have to solder to are very close together. I’ve seen some people use some pretty thick wire though, so I guess if you got really good soldering skills- go for it, haha.
