The imp board is used specifically in this tutorial so you can use the LS/DP/RS option to switch to the different PCBs in the stick. It’s not required I don’t think (you can use a regular switch like other people are doing), but it’s nice to use a function thats already built into the original TE.
So if you don’t mind making another hole in your TE for a manual switch to switch between 360/PS2/Wii, or a hole for extra wires for that matter, then by all means go for it. Then again, I guess the RJ-45 setup will take care of the multi-console part eh?
imp has nothing to do with which consoles are supported, it’s just a more convenient way to switch between 360 pcb and Cthulhu.
you are correct on the hole size, I believe the closest is 15/16" hole saw, that is covered in the tut. personally I put the Jack in the select button’s hole and put a new hole on the other side of the start button for select. bomberman gave me that idea and it worked great, though I had to trim a little plastic off the white side piece to fit.
otherwise you can put the hole in the cord bay as some people have done.
Oh, haha. So that’s what the IMP board is used for. Now I get it.
Must have missed that part about the drill bit size, though. How painfully typical of me.
I’m. . . not gonna lie. I’m a trifle concerned about my ability with a drill. I spent $150 on this stick, and I don’t want to ruin it. Of course, I’m pretty sure I’m overblowing this.
Also, I noticed that on a youtube tutorial someone was soldering a new set of Sanwa buttons directly to the wires of a 360 pcb without the use of soldering wire, which confuses me. I presume that he merely skipped the parts where he tinned the wires and the points on the buttons.
I’ve said this before, but if you don’t have experience soldering, I would let someone else do it. There are a lot of points you need to solder to that are really close together, and IMO it’s not easy if you don’t have experience. I think some people here have done this as their first soldering job and been successful (which I think is pretty impressive!), but I know I wouldn’t have done a very good job if it was my first time, haha.
Yeah, I’d be more than inclined to agree with you. I mean, I work inside the guts of computers with a certain measure of success, but soldering just looks like one of those things I would fuck up too easily.
Oh, well. Let’s hope I can acquire some more money fairly soon for both parts and labor. Figure it’d be a hell of a lot cheaper than scrounging around for a Hori Wii stick, and an uber expensive PS2 stick, with all of the mods and Sanwa upgrades that would come with them.
Quick question before I head to bed. Anyone else having a weird issue of the Xbox turning back on after being shut off? Then the stick staying on even if the Xbox is shut off as long as it’s plugged in?
So, I did a Cthulhu/Imp/Madcatz 360 dual (triple?) PCB setup all going through an RJ-45 jack according to Maxx Mana’s diagram: http://sites.google.com/site/joysticksetc/Home/dual-mod2.png, and I cannot seem to get the 360 pad to function at all. I’ve determined that it’s not a malfunctioning pad, since I soldered a different Madcatz 360 pad that I know works and the problem still persisted. The Cthulhu’s PS3 and PS2 functionality works perfectly utilizing the jack, so it’s to my knowledge that both the Imp (supposedly) and Cthulhu ought to be functioning properly. I’ve checked all of my solder points, and they are definitely not the problem. I know this might all be very vague, but does anybody have any idea what could possibly be wrong? I’m guessing there’s something awry with the PCB select function on the Imp, meaning that it could just be a malfunctioning board?
i just got my Cthulhu and Imp in the mail and my 360 SE fight stick. Also order a new stick and buttons from LizardLicks. Would you recommend waiting til I get the joystick and buttons before doing this mod or can I easily put in the joystick and buttons afterwards?
I’ve been reading the tutorials over and over just to make sure I’ll be able to do everything right when I have everything ready. Hopefully it’ll come out right.
So i have question. Using a TE with the cthulhu. It works flawlessly on my 360. No problems at all. then i’ll use it on my ps3. NO issues either. After that point it just doesn’t work on either. it flashes once on the guide button when i plug it into the 360. Nothing happends. I know for a fact everything is wired fine. I had someone even look at it (in fact when i gave it to them it worked fine for them!) they gave it back to me and it worked great on 360… one day i decided to use it on ps3 (keep in mind i play it hours everyday for at least 6 days a week on the 360) used it ONCE on the ps3 now it doesn’t work on either.
I made sure i’m switching the controller to LS for 360 and even DP doesn’t work. RS for ps3 but now it doesn’t work on either. Does anyone have any ideas?
neither board shows up. when i plug it into a usb port on either of my computers i get a flash on the guide button and nothing else.
this is also interesting. So last time i let my friend see it and it worked flawlessly for him. So i took the same approach and left the stick overnight. i tried it today when i got home and it detects fine on the PC. everything works… so i decided to plug it inot the ps3. works great! as soon as i am done it’s completely dead after that point.
It’s almost like the Ps3 does something or the cthulhu is doing something to the stick… but why does not owrk for hours on end then it start working 100% ok?
VERY STRANGE. So far i’ve replicated this issue 3 times now. Works after sitting overnight, works 100% until i use it on the ps3. After using on the ps3 it’s completley dead and won’t work for another day.
How quickly are you unplugging from one system to the other? I’ve seen the imp remain on for a bit after being unplugged for, long enough for it to remain set to one console instead of rechecking and possibly changing consoles.
But not seeing anything listed in the joystick control panel applet at all? nah, doesn’t make sense.
well the first time i did move pretty quick. the 2nd time i twas about 10 minutes. 3rd time about 10 minutes.
Yeah normally you can hear windows detecting a new device… but when it fails after using the ps3 is doesn’t detect ANYTHING. I’m going to do more tests today and see how it goes.
You keep not saying what needs to be said. Are you looking in the game controllers applet of the control panel OF A PC?
Information about what the ps3 does or doesnt do won’t help this kind of problem. Troubleshoot it on a pc.
Sorry I must not have worded it correclty. I do that sometimse and i’m sorry.
Yeah normally you can hear windows detecting a new device… but when it fails after using the ps3 is doesn’t detect ANYTHING
So I’m saying here that normally you can hear windows detecing a new USB device. And when the stick is working it detects it as a TE stick and as a Cthulhu depending on how i have it set. That portion works flawlessly.
Once i use it on the Ps3 and it dies, the PC doesn’t detect ANYTHING plugged in. if i go to the controller panel it shows nothing at all. Sorry for the confusion i probably should have worded my original post better. I hope this answers your question. I do have an issue with communication please forgive me.
