Injustice: Gods Among Us; New Game by NetherRealm Studios

Cons: Already I see sillyness. They really need to make things into a game that makes sense. Batman just kicked Grundy all the way down a football field sized room. Superman takes Flash into orbit and punches him back down to earth and Flash remains intact; no burns or asphixiation whatsoever
(ala: MK4 breaking limbs and snapping them back on, MK5 impaling ppl with weapons and they are still fighting, MK9 breaking bones and organs with xrays and they are still ok). Can’t really take this dark and gritty thing seriously if you have silly stuff like this all over your game NRS. And since this is NRS we’re talking about, we can all expect a huge amount of bugs but hopefully they’ll do the patching thing like MK9. Also it looks like they’re trying to compete with Tecmo and their DOA5 as far as fighting entertainment goes (but isn’t it supposed to be entertaining anyway. a little redundant but oh well.)

Pros: Superman’s suit looks like the one that is about to appear in the upcoming movie. Looks good and so does Flash’s. I don’t know about Harley or WW though.

It would be awesome if Phantasm, Clayface, Brainiac Luthor, Edgar Mandragora, Superboy (one with the glasses and leather jacket), Henry Irons, and Terry McGuiness were in.

Craziness aside, the thing that bugs me the most about NRS is the animations for moves (especially in MK9) just look so goofy. Its like, who would punch someone by swinging their arm all the way behind and over their own head? Or do quick jabs where it looks like you’re fencing without a rapier(sword)? The fact that they used motion capture is fine since I consider that the modern equivalent of using digitized sprites but at least make the moves look cooler… just sayin’.

In the case of MK, I think they were intentionally making things ‘feel’ like MK, which (in my theory) is the reason the moves look the way they do. The other part is that the moves look much weirder on less cartoonish characters, probably an uncanny valley thing.

To be fair they never said gritty was their aim. Boon just said they wanted it to be over the top like the comics and have a photorealistic style. You can be silly and go in a photorealistic direction. As for the story who knows what direction the writers will go, but from what we have seen i’ll grant you that it seems to be going in a dark direction with the whole heroes are our enemies thing. Then again it could still be explained away as a mind control based villain being behind things, which would be substantially less dark. I think we have to wait and see what the overall style will be before we judge it on style inconstancies.Plus lets face it most stories that try and go gritty end up unintentionally silly, at least this is over the top silly and not batman calling robin retarded silly.

@NeoBlood: Tell me about it. Especially the Rage animation on MKvsDC. Made everyone look feminine. They also continuously did that same animation on the endings to MK4 when they talked and on the cutscenes of MKM-SubZero. Most of all, most of those fighting animations didn’t start with MK5 believe it or not. It started around the Tao Feng (xbox) timespan. A little in Mace-The Dark Age (N64) as well.

@SandwichofDoom: So you’re saying the Flash can breathe in outter space and have resistance to the Earth’s atmosphere and that Batman has super strength in the comics?

I don’t like to focus on this suspension of disbelief stuff, but the Flash had better have the ability to resist atmospheric friction or he wouldn’t be able to use his powers at all!

You’re right. I don’t think they will, or they should have a story that expands beyond Earth. Especially since this is technically the first DC Fighting Game they’re doing. It would be easier to keep it to locations that are easily more recognizable, that way casual players won’t get confused over what they’re watching.

It doesn’t matter. WE aren’t making the game. Apparently NRS thinks it does. Don’t work yourself up thinking about it, you’ll just end up exhausted and frustrated talking from experience

No i’m not saying that at all. I’m guessing your referring to trying to be over the top like the comics part. That was a reference to an interview with boon i posted earlier in which he said that he wanted to be over the top like the comics.

People get punched through buildings all the time in comics, and against powerful opponents superman will make use of dropping them from orbit. That is part of his character, note grundy’s super move is a lot more subdued in comparison, because he doesn’t do that.

As for the flash surviving and batman’s super strength, Gameplay balance. If flash died from that one move, while people who could take the hit didn’t, the game would be a mess. As for batman, they probably decided on using the level transfers to fit the over the top nature. Again it would be unbalanced if only the superpowered could do the transition, so batman can to balance it out.

This is all besides the point I was trying to make by the way but whatever.

Edit: better explanation, it’s this

In MKvsDC, they explained this balance that the characters had. I wonder if they would make something that would explain it this time or if they would just roll with what they have (Or it could very well be something not thought out and just as a game to utilize the focus on the stage effects). But I do hope they put reasoning behind what they do (every other serious super hero game usually does), or else it will end up like MK9, dead b4 a year’s time (even though it did do well within that period). Seems like games with little content stay popular way more than games with lots of content for some odd reason.

Marvel didn’t bother, think of it like what is said in the austin powers movies about time travel, just have fun. But I wouldnt be surprised if it was explained.

They might as well permanently call it ‘the Superman problem’. Or, if you prefer Marvel, ‘the Dr. Strange problem’. They have trouble using the characters in comics at all due to balance issues, let alone games.

It’s also why Superman plots were so utterly insane in the '50s-'60s and why every thug on the planet had his piece of Kryptonite.

It’s a good thing they toned down superman since that time, but it’s a shame they also toned down strange. Half the fun of classic strange came out of the absurd power everyone had. I think the difference was that superman was way too powerful for his enemies, while strange was still anunderdog against his. The only real problem came from crossovers.

If Capcom viably found a way to put Strange AND Ghost Rider into a game, NetherRealm can find a way to do so with the Man of Steel. It may not please all fans, but it will be viable.

Not to mention Dormammu and Blackheart (and shuma, but though he was awesome he never really carried the aura of power he should have, still awesome though). I have to hand it to Capcom, they did the powerful characters well.

I want Prometheus in this, with his place as a stage.

What was it called? The Crooked House?

They absolutely can, the question is ‘how much will people bitch about it?’

Like the Batman kick shows, people take that kind of thing dreadfully seriously.

It would be cool if Titan’s Tower was a stage. That giant T would make for a great visual for a stage. The Iceberg Lounge and have Penguin in the background being pissed about the heroes wrecking the place

If they include Clayface and do him justice, I’d buy this game day 1 and stop saying 3D DS4 will look like ass because 3D won’t be able to do the same crazy morphing that 2D can.

Very true!

Supes has had the worst balance issues in comics. At times he is overpowered then over nerfed, its almost like what happens when SNK tries to make 1 of their boss characters playable. Either he will be complete garbage or the best S tier character in the game, although supes is just 1 small problem in DC’s roster. They have so many other characters that nearly as broken as supes to the point that it makes you wonder why the solar system hasn’t been destroyed yet lol.
