Injustice: Gods Among Us; New Game by NetherRealm Studios

  1. Stop being like that. Just because he’s a robot doesn’t mean he hits that hard. He ISN’T a brawler. His armor is filled with circuitry and compartments for weapons, it’s obviously not that Heavy-Duty.

1.5. Toning down the damage so that he doesn’t 1hko opponents is different than changing a character’s fighting style. Did you watch the second Superman vs Darkseid clip? Superman turned around and brushed Batman to the side, and Batman flew into a wall and looked like he dislocated his shoulder. Stuff like that would obviously need to be toned down, and non-metahumans need to be a bit more durable, but not on the level it’s currently being done. Also, Ice Breath and Super Clap aren’t really zoning attacks. They are both close range attacks, midrange attacks if you really want to stretch it.

  1. If Batman was rocking his Bat-Buster (whatever it’s called, his giant robot suit), then that’s fine. What suit do you know that could be mistaken for an armored vest but could amplify someone’s strength from “can barely move an object with all your strength (do you know how heavy Grundy is?)” to “easily kicks object hundreds of feet through the air with enough power to crash through a building and keep going”? Anything like that is at least obvious, like Iron Man’s Hulk Buster armor. Batman has some armor-plated suit. If they wanted to make it the suit, then give him a mechanical suit. If you want to have Gadget Batman, then do that. You can’t have both.

lol, really?

Yep Really.
Kind of cool looking though…[details=Spoiler]

Possible DLC and or guest characters

Gameplay on Monday

Good to see a game that isn’t out till some vague point next year already deciding to do DLC.

/sarcasm

Good to see the never ending torrent of generic DLC hate spewing from yet another mouth.

/sarcasm

You decide to do DLC very early in a project’s cycle, both for production reasons and engineering reasons.

Shhh, stop it. He can’t hear you, don’t waste your breath.

wah…wah…

Where can I find this? What movie is this? Supergirl is my new favorite superhero

Ha! It was one of my favorite animated movies too. Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.

I like breaker/counter systems when done right in fighters for the following reasons:

-superificially, it makes the action feel more like a fight scene in a movie with the fighters going back and forth(as opposed to one guy wailing on the other guy til he dies)
-gameplay wise, I like it because honestly too many people focus on “big combos” now, and while it’s fine to have that stuff, a well done breaker system forces the person getting hit to stay engaged and try to decide if they want to break and when and what to do afterwards to take advantage of that, while the person doing the combo has to be wary of that and can’t go into autopilot mode(ie. I memorized dis combo off a Desk video on youtube, lemme keep trying to hit dem so I can do it over and over LOL)

I actually like long crazy combos in some games, but I honestly think if you make a gameplay system revolving around that, it’s a real good idea to have some kind of system to go with it so it doesn’t turn into simon sez with people ignoring fundamentals so they can repeat the uber combos they saw in videos(ps. no I don’t think combo games ruin fundamentals, I think some of the people who go into these games have the wrong mentality and think they’re supposed to be re-enacting a combo video instead of playing a fighting game).

I kinda can’t imagine this being a huge combo game. I hope they keep the combos short.

That would be fine except for one little problem:

How is Harley Quinn gonna fight Solomon Grundy in a fighting game? Do you realize how strong some of these metahumans/nonhumans are? You’d have to depower them so much then it wouldn’t be fun playing as them. If you didn’t do that, then chars like HQ are fucked, what’s she gonna do, shoot him with Joker gas and pray it works? How would any character like her even attempt to fight The Flash, technically he should be so fast you the player would almost never see him.

Again, look at KoF or SF or any other fighting game, those characters are all from the same world but given similar strengths to compete for gameplay purposes. Have you ever played Tekken? Bryan Fury is a zombie cyborg that can lift tanks and shit, Xiayou wouldn’t even be able to hurt him, and one punch from him would most likely literally burst her little body apart. Kazuya can punch Jacks(heavy duty Robots) and break them easily, ingame he can’t do this because frankly why would anyone pick Jack if Kaz could do that? Kazuya still punches hard as shit(it’s obvious due to how he sends people flying with a simple uppercut), they just power up the other characters so they don’t die and can do the same to him, for the purpose of fun and competitive play.

Plus that logic in Capcom’s case is flawed, comic characters had crossovers with stuff like Aliens, who still had acid blood and crawled on walls and all the other bullshit abilities those things had; so you can have characters in different worlds with their original powers intact, just for a game that’s generally a bad idea. It has to be more in the vein of the game, hence why Phoenix Wright’s lawyer stuff got boosted to being actual powers and fighting techniques. Same reason here why Batman can kick someone through a building, it would suck if only Superman and Grundy could do that especially if it gave them so bullshit advantage. Meanwhile what would Batman do, run them over with the Batmobile(which would be equally fucked up)?

I think the idea of a game using more “realistic” depictions of different characters powers and such could be interesting, but considering this game is apparently gonna let you knock people through skyscrapers and such, it would prolly be a bad idea in this case if they did that. I’d hate to pick Harley Quinn if the most I’d be able to do is shoot someone and laugh a lot, while my opponent can knock me into the sea or something with a single punch. Would also make it boring too in that case sadly.

Edit: Powerful characters keeping their powers is fine, just the lesser characters need to be scaled up for a fighter to work right, otherwise it wouldn’t be much fun(hence why someone like Xiayou can launch and juggle someone like Marduk, or why Shingo can punch Iori so hard he flies into the corner despite him technically being a joke character).

You know full and well Marvel and DC will have a big pissing match on what style to go with and considering how finicky Marvel is about how there characters are portrayed, 2D would be pushed more than any other direction.

As awesome as the fights are in that movie, DS had to be nerfed quite a bit and job so that supergirl and supes could have a chance. DS can fly and use his omega beans for more then just blunt force(matter manipulation and what not).He also has exceptional h2h skill and is very swift, swift enough to speed blitz behind flash without him noticing. I’d say that was a very weak version of DS by comparison to his comic counterpart, especially when you consider the fact that DS has KO’ed the entire league with single blast.

I kind of feel like quicks was saying he distrusts Netherrealms for making a MK game like MK.

Still, I am curious if they’re gonna include some of the staples of the games they’ve made (notably the button and the chip), or if they’ll pull them out.

I guess we’ll know Monday.

get over it

I have followed the adventures of Marvel and DC heroes (along with other comic companies, like Dark Horse and Image, along with some lesser known ones) before I could read. I’m pretty sure I understand the difference in power of people like Harley Quinn and Solomon Grundy. Which is why, ya know, I said this.

“The only thing that should, or rather needs to be done, is moderate the powerlevels of the strong. That is what should be done, not increasing the physical strength of every non-superhuman-strength level a million fold”

She is apparently going to be fighting with guns, and she will probably be using Joker gas. Alright, and she’s a human with no where near peak human abilities (like Batman). She probably also has her rocket launcher, and probably some grenades. So, what do you need to do to have a fun and competitive fight with someone like Solomon? Simple: moderate his strength so it is less “Break your bones on first hit” and more “Hurts a lot, but I can still fight”. Then, reduce his invulnerability slightly so he can be hurt by her weapons. Grundy is still Grundy, and Harley is still Harley. Only now, they can fight. I mean, I’m sure I’ve seen Batman and Green Arrow fight Grundy before. Sure they may not won all the time, but the fight can still be made. The scales just need to be tipped down on Grundy a bit for competitive and fun gameplay.

Do you not get it? Xioayu was not made stronger to fight Kazuya, Kazuya was made weaker. Dan isn’t given a huge power boost, Akuma gets weaker. That’s what I’m saying. That is the point of my argument.

The key to making crossovers is powering down the strongest people so everyone has a convincing chance; they don’t need things taken away, they just need those things to be less effective. If Aliens were to fight the X-men, nothing would have to be done. If Aliens were to fight My Little Ponies, Aliens would have to be toned down. If Aliens were to fight Superman, they would give Superman a weakness to them (They’re suddenly supernatural or some shit). You ever read the Superman versus Muhammad Ali comic? Yeah… I wasn’t singling out Capcom, Capcom was just the natural choice for the logic I presented (which you failed to prove faulty…).

I’ll reiterate in a new paragraph: boosting characters for no reason is not the answer. The only time you should boost a character is when it’s impossible for them to fight otherwise, ala Phoenix Wright. Any other time you just need to reduce the speed, invulnerability, and strength to competitive levels.

O ye of little imagination.

Is that why Marvel licensed games are almost entirely done with 3d engines?

Seriously dude, you have no idea what you’re talking about. I couldn’t imagine DC/WB and Marvel/Disney aggressively pushing for a more-expensive / less salable direction for a product that would sell millions of units.

Where do you get the idea that Marvel prefers 2d (and that their vision would triumph over WB)? There’s absolutely no indication of that, nor would it be a wise business decision. YOU may like it more, but the mass market clearly doesn’t.

This.

And hey, if nothing else, another way of looking at this game is to just perceive it as yet ANOTHER DC universe unto itself. Which is a probably apt, considering that there’s no feasible way this game is going to connect with any other established DC continuity. (And for the sake of the writing staff from NRS and DC, that’s probably for the best.)

But for now, anyway, I’m fine with the fact that this version of Batman could possibly keep up with Midnighter in a fight. Speaking of which, that’s a nice alternate costume idea right there…
