You only think that block buttons don’t have place is because you are used to them.
Give me an example of one game that was bad because of breakers/burst?
and in most games you work to get you combo started , why should they be able to just break it ? some characters bank on that one hit for huge damage then good setups
I just dont agree with it , you got hit you deserve the resulting combo
and I don’t think there a good idea even if it was put into the best fighting game on earth
That’s true I give you that. What I think NRS was hoping for is to give that Momentum-has-shift feel here’s an example : Its the Grand Finals and Chris G just reset the Bracket with some impressive skills with his Reptile and his opponent is Tom Brady, who uses Sub-Zero of course. Its the last round of the Grand finals, Sub-Zero only has like 25% of health left,so all Chris G needs to do is get a hit-confirm and do a combo that’s it he wins, but when he does it Sub-Zero has a breaker and use it on Reptile pushing him in the corner, now he has to block…Momentum has been shifted to Tom Brady’s favor
I don’t want to turn this into a MK thread but how in the blue hell did MK9 have bad execution?
MK9 transformed a franchise that for nearly a decade+ was seen as a joke by the FGC into a tournament viable fighter that was universally praised and endorsed by several top players within the community. It made the MK series go from a example of a badly developed fighter to 1 of the "good"tournament fighters presently around. You can’t achieve a 180 this significant if the execution was botched, you can’t go from MKA to a game that has arguably evolved more in it’s competitive play then it’s competitors have within the same time.
This isnt even including all the praise and critical acclaim mk9 has recieved from the mainstream critics or the games massive commercial success. In terms of meeting all it’s goals from a development perspective, the game recieved critical acclaim from both the FGC and mainstream community, outsold it’s main competitor to become 1 of the best selling fighters in recent memory, redeemed a franchise people considered the genre’s biggest joke and set a new standard in respects to content and replayability within a high budget fighting game…this all could not have been possible if it was poorly executed.
What purpose does a cross-up have that is not already covered by a mix up?
Specifically, if I can trick my opponent into defending the wrong attack type, isn’t that functionally similar to a traditional cross-up?
Which is a still works in MK9, but there’s a potential buffer to damage, which is meter. That’s the reason characters like Cyrax don’t completely dominate, but he still is very dangerous. When you fight against Cyrax, you have to respect the huge damage and reserve your meter for damage mitigation… so his damage output has more impact on the flow of the match because of how the breaker system functions.
The way that breakers are implemented in MK9 adds to the strategy of game. When you hit someone, with a starter, you will either take a big chunk of health, or you’ll take a big chunk of meter (if they decide to use it), and in that game, meter might as well be life.
I still think people just underestimate the fact that Mortal Kombat has MVC style block traps, high/low bullshit , unblockables, and every character can do insane chip damage to you.
If they going to change the block system, they have to make sure that there isn’t DC characters who have the bullshit that MK9 cast truly has.
So because someone is physically strong, they HAVE to fight with brute strength? He doesn’t fight like that. He uses things he’s made/modified to fight. That’s who he is. He doesn’t HAVE to have Trailer-Batman level strength. Stop stereo-typing characters. He was in the latest animated movie, Justice League: Doom. In it, he had to stop Wonder Woman, who had gone on a rampage. He didn’t punch her through a building, he didn’t smash her with a truck, he didn’t do anything remotely physical. Here’s the first part of the movie, fastforward to 43:45

He had electricity, lazers, some sort of sonic emitting weapon, and a jetpack that he could remote control to attack his opponent. He had his arm ripped off, but he can also detach it (rocket fists). Those things alone are enough for a decent zoning moveset. So… I mean, yeah. Nothing more needs to be said.
His name is actually Captain Marvel. Shazam is the name of the Wizard who gave him his powers.
Well, let’s say I made a movie starring Batman. In the movie, Jamie Silver is an alien who has above average physical capabilities, and can spit acid. He learns his true calling is to be a villain after his parents are brutally murdered in front of him, and takes over Metropolis, calling himself The Bat.
What is wrong with that? It has NOTHING TO DO WITH BATMAN! That’s why people are upset with it. He’s kicking people through buildings… that isn’t Batman. Can Harley do this as well? Are they going to make Flash shoot lazers so that he has a distance attack? Can Wonder Woman shoot electricity from her vag so that she has a visually impressive projectile? When you make a game, and you call it something that has fans so that said fans will buy it, you have to at least TRY to keep with the material. Imagine if you went to see that Batman movie: it doesn’t matter how good the story was, how thought out the plot. Fact is, they only slapped the name “Batman” on it because they wanted to make more money than they would have otherwise. That’s called false advertising.
Your Marvel points are invalid. Capcom took characters from so many different worlds, characters who could not originally even attempt to fight in that environment. If they weren’t altered, the game would not be competitive, or even fun. The difference HERE is that these are all DC characters. They are all from the same world. These characters have fought each other before. They have proved what they can do against one another often enough. They don’t need to be *given *anything new, or have anything taken away. The only thing that should, or rather needs to be done, is moderate the powerlevels of the strong. That is what should be done, not increasing the physical strength of every non-superhuman-strength level a million fold.
1.He doesn’t have to play that way, but come on, he has gadgets and stuff, but he’s extremely powerful so when he hits you it won’t be a love tap sir, even if he was a zoner or a trap character or whatever he can still punch through a tank so he would really have to be a brawler with a few zoning tools or else it would be broken. Lets say they give superman multidirectional eye laser attacks, ice breathe, and a super clap, he’s a zoner, but he’s still fucking superman and can level a building in one punch and you cant really tone his strength down to balance him out because that would be stupid.
Its not impossible for the story to call for batman to use a “power suit” of some sort, just looking at his suit in this game he’s obviously a lot more armored and bulky than most of his incarnations.
With the reboot they just decided to call him shazam, probably because people already make that mistake and to avoid further conflict with marvel over the name.It annoys me.
