Street Fighter X Tekken?
Had characters on the disc and the publisher was “disappointed” that the hackers discovered about it, hacked it and played with the characters before everyone else was able to use that disc locked content (DLC).
Then they said the reason why Street Fighter X Tekken sold bad, is because there are already so many fighting games on the market. Yeah, that’s the reason … too many fighting games on the market, even though the game has not only two of the most well known fighting game names in the title - it also has two of the most well known franchises overall when it comes to gaming in the title. There are Tekken and Street Fighter movies, comics and so on, and they were not able to sell that game well enough.
Why? Because they suck and fuck with the customers and enough people boycotted that game. Good.
I don’t mind DLC, if it comes months and months and months post release and is there to keep the game alive and most importanly - was not created in the budget of the game production, which most of the stuff nowdays seem to be (ASURA’S WRATH: THE TRUE ENDING anyone?)
I’ll be a role-playing game. I’ll play through it. And if the developers create more content later on and offer it, because everyone demanded it. Okay, I’m happy about it.
But Capcom and NRS already knowing before that they’re going to offer you CHARACTERS as DLC, simply because they can and they know that you’ll have to buy that DLC, since … characters are essential to a fighting game. Then that’s just bold. I can skip the additional content for the role playing game and start a new class, or discover other areas, but I can’t simply miss on fighting game characters. They’re simply too important and the publishers know that. They know that they’re going to earn a lot of money by creating the characters in the first place and then waiting a while, maybe polishing them a little bit - and selling them later on, just in order to make direct money without having to share it with anyone else (manufactury, retailers).
I’m not stupid, I just dislike bad business-practice.
Yes, it’s good practice for the publisher, since they’re making more money out of it. But it’s unethical and fucked up, since it forces me to pay a lot more money for the game than the regular 60$ price tag.
Oh and one more thing. Not everyone lives in America. You buy your games for less money than many people in - for example Europe. I live in Germany and I have to pay 85$ for games, which quite often offer less content, since Germany tends to censor the fuck out of the games. Luckily not the fighting games, but still - you don’t even want to imagine how much I would have to pay to own the full Street Fighter X Tekken game, since even you Americans already have to pay over 130$, if you pay the game and all the additional content that comes as “DLC”.
Oh and after you payed that, you still don’t own the game completely. Borrow it to a friend and he won’t have that additional content. Rent the game to check it out and you will have only half of the game.
I’m not stupid, I’m just pissed off.
